    Going out for the rest of the afternoon. This will be it for me. Not been a good year for hunting trying to get our new house closed on now for 4 weeks has killed any joy of going out. But dad wants to go so im going to try and clear my head for 3 hrs in my stand so dad atleast has a chance.

    I had same issue but luckily no shoys but i caught someone doing it at my lease and called the owners up. They headed towards their house where the lease owner was waiting for them at the end of their road. No issues since, no cops were called just a very direct conversation got the point across.

    Theres 6 of us who do them. We will start this weekend and usually all the final weekend. I prefer the still hunt methods of the drivers. But latley its become more of a chore we dont kill much when we do them. Kill more sitting in stands. More of a chance for the 6 of us to hang out and bs for the day. But we stopped brining in guys only 1 or 2 of us new,and its shotgun only. Dont no if its any safer but i dont like the idea of walking towards someone with a high powered rifle. But we also set it up so sitters are always shooting into a bank or down into a bottom. Just the little things to help keep people safe.

    My kids and my wife leave her mom. If it wasnt for them being established in schools here ide be down south. Ive got family here and down there. It took every ounce of energy for me to drive back up from the carolinas last year on vacation. I did not want to come back. We thought about it when we first got together but we didnt have enough money to take the jump and or risk.

    Dad and i went back out to where we sat opening day. Plenty of new tracks and beds just no sightings. Hes always been fortunate enough when he hunted all the time he always had private land. Starting to see how much stateland hunting can suck. Told him just be patient and he did says he now undertands why i let very little walk past.

    Yes ive been taking my girls, nephews god children out hunting usually starting at 4or5. I used to bring pictures i printed off the internet of animals they might see and they would find it if we saw it and color the picture. Enjoy the time just remeber some kids are only good for an hr sit.

    Well saw 11. One as i walked in at 6 huge body no idea what was on its head. Then i popped in to see the land owners and shoot the bull before heading home to get ready for dinnner and 10 bust through his pasture and onto someone elses land. Worst part just got done walking where they came out 5 mins before they came through. So im at almost 30 deer since wed. Their neighbor shot the one that i believe was wrecking the trees he wasnt home but i guess its a massive 9. Saw 1 all last year and that was the one i took at 710 opening morning. Congrats to those that punched tags today im done until middat tomorrow or tomorrow night.

    My first one was an archery 3 pt. I was 15. It was my grandmas 75th birthday. So we had a big get together and at about 130 she saw me looking out the window and told me to get in my stand. So grabbed my gear and ran up the hill to my dads stand(crevis in a rock,perfect spot). The day before my older cousin told me to rattle,grunt use the bleat can he bought me, said its first week of november they are stupid. So at about 330 i rattled and grunted and within minutes i hear a deer coming in. I finally realize its a buck and hes tearing up sapling after sapling making his way in. He gets to 20yards and i let the arrow fly. He bolts and takes off arrow still in him. We had to back out because we didnt have good light and we wanted to give him time. So i skipped school the next day to look for him. He was 25 yards from where we stopped looking. Killed my first gun buck from same stand when i was 17 a little spike horn.

    Buddy just took a four point. Ill be out in am with my dad and brother. First time all 3 are going out together. Spending the rest of the day hanging with the kiddos. Good luck to everyone thats out.

    Well miday seems to be right. Sitting in the house and my neighborhood doe group is milling around and feeding. 2 are bedded. I know its cold out when they sleep on my bank. Always facing into the sun. When ut gets like this.

    I did not make it long feet were fine but realized the last 2 days i need some good insulated bibs and better jacket. Had one guy shoot just above me at 730 but i saw nothing. Not gping back out until tomorrow hopefully.

    Really having to get motivated to sit in this cold. Going to a piece of stateland i saw that little buck yesterday. Only 5 mins away so im just getting ready.

    Well afternoon wasnt to bad saw a 4 pt. I dont pass buck on stateland where im at dont see them to often. But ive gotten to know a land owner that has been keeping me posted on how many people are hunting and that the deer there are still on a normal pattern and that there are quite a few decent bucks still running. That being said he comes by in morning he might not be lucky. So he made my deer total 2 bucks 5 does today on 3 seperate stateland and my lease. Thats a really good day for me. Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving.

    Well jumped 6 doing a 2 man drive. About stepped on a 4 and doe under a bunch of low hemlock. They reminded me they are faster at running then i am at pointing and shooting. For some reason the guy from work ive been taking out to help him get his first deer past on a big doe broadside at 40 yards. No obstructions so i wasnt to pleased with him. But oh well cant dwell on it. Back out for the afternoon sit then dinner. These mickey mouse boots are keeping my feet nice and toasty.

    Tough call. Our rule(group of 5 of us) is if you put a shot that would eventually kill the deer and the other person finishes it then it goes to the original shooter. But you have to drag the other guys next deer out. Stateland and its someone else i dont know it would be tougher just depends on how the deer is acting coming in(in the process of dying or just looking to bed up) and how close the last shot to me was.

    This is what i use for these days. Worked great last year. Heavy but dont need to use heavy socks. And they cost me $60.

    Ill be in. Time to bring out my mickey mouse boots. Ive killed deer 6 out of the last 7 thanksgivings. Sit untill 930 hopefully, drive back from the lease and just walk thr woods. Then sit the afternoon in a deep bottom they like to hide in when this cold hits.

    Well walked 4.5 miles fairly steady pace. 1 small buck never gave me a shot and jumped 4 more in some nasty stuff thinking all does. Buddy missed a nice 8 this morning as well.

    No its not. Hes looking into the leupolds for next year already.

    Just got home stopped and payed the farmer who watches my son and she had 3 does in her pasture they got a pass because i dont have a dmp for that side of the river. Go up her road and theres a 6 point making a scrape 20yrds off the road with his gf in front of him. So they are moving and now im getting dressed and hoping they are moving on stateland.

    Well just got a call from the guy ive been taking this year. Not good for his gun. He dropped it going in opening day. Well just slipped into snow. Told him that wont hurt it recoil is worse then slipping into soft snow. Well he just told me he dropped it 3 times that day. Once when i was there, once on a stone wall then bounced it off his door jam in his truck when he got home saturday. And now the scope is cracked. So i told him to go shoot it or if not he needs to use my single shot. Trying to build him back up but hes pretty down on himself.

    I will tell you i havent killed all but 1 big buck in my life but it was at 2pm. And i see more deer on the one piece of stateland i hunt from 10-2. You will be suprised how affective that time is. My dad always told me sleep in and go in when others are coming out. Even when i hunted my grandmothers we saw deer at 11 all the time.

    Ive got 3 kids from 13 down to 2 so that does help(not all as young as yours). But my wife knows my time of year is right now so she pushes me out the door sometimes. But i dont hunt like i used to. I get out whenever i can squeeze it in. Miday,last hr, i do get lucky in the mornings because they all like to sleep in on weekends so i usually have until 10am if i dont have to work saturdays. It does suck every now and then not getting out when i want. but ide still rather have time with them then more time in the woods. Its just a balancing act. Good luck gettinf out and with the new baby.
