  1. Congrats. Nice looking deer i like the coloring of his antlers. Did you take him with your recurve?
  2. I plan to. Hes going with me at some point before then either during crossbow or regular bow. But that look on his face you could tell he was hooked. He told me when we got done today he didnt care if i hunted one of those blinds. I said good because i was going to be in the one next sunday. Lol
  3. Good luck to all going out. I cant make it until next sunday so im living through you guys/gals going out.
  4. So i went to setup ground blinds at a piece of stateland for a guy down to work. His first year going so i put him in a spot that has decent sign and good views for gun. ive personally never hunted this section. Told him that this piece is a crap shoot come gun season never know where they could come from. So we sat down around 7ish this morning and told him we will see what shows up. Well we found out atleast right now its a good place. We had a 4,6,spike, 2 does and one unknown which was in a thicket 60yards away. The rest walked within 25 yards of us. It was nice to see that many and best part was the guy started shaking he got so excited. I looked at him laughed and said yep your hooked now. All he could do was nod his head.
  5. Used to be the first buck that was above the ears i tried to harvest. Last year i set myself to minimum a 6. Well that changed when my disabled father wanted to go out so i shot a busted up little 5 opening morning to have more time to take him. This year will be the same hoping for atleast a 6 but if its the end of the season freezer will get filled before i eat a tag. I hunt stateland that gets hunted hard so its hard to get to picky.
  6. Green mile. I seem to read it every year and always during deer season.
  7. Thanks, i dont think its set in all the way.
  8. We got a phone call from my father in law 2hrs ago. We lost my wifes brother to a widow maker this afternoon while he was cutting fire wood. 40yrs old and leaves behind a beautiful 9yr old daughter. Please be careful out there doing tree work of any kind. Sorry needed to vent helped me breath a bit.
  9. I like those. Going to have to try to make one like that today when im out with my nephew setting blinds for him.
  10. Both daughters and wife like to shoot bow and .22s. Oldest daughter wants to try and take up deer hunting next year with a gun. Wife doesnt like the cold so no hunting for her.
  11. Had same thing happen. Luckily my friend didnt fall but i had to go help him get down. Found out they cut those straps and cut up our ground blind.
  12. Hope everyone is ok. A guy i work with had a camp where the flooding is. His wife had to be evacuated. Hope you guys are all doing ok.
  13. I tend to go in from 200yrds up to a mile except for one spot. my best deer to date was 45yards from the road on stateland he was trying to get to the private land. Its the smallest chunck i hunt. Always a nice deer taken by someone in that same place each year. Had a chance at another 8 last year same spot. He caught me on my draw.
  14. Im that way this year. Ive thrown in the towel on bowhunting until november. Except for taking my nephew out. Havent even given thought to my lease. Ill get more pumped to go the closer it gets as long as i can keep knocking projects off my to do list.
  15. Sorryy this may be dragged out.Ok so when i got to hunting age i had certain things i had to have in order to go(not talking tags). I had to have a certain gpa,no detention, chores caught up, couldnt be grounded leading up to season or during. Ill be taking my nephew out this year for his first bow season whenever his dad cant take him out. His dad didnt give him any requirements which im fine with. But my nephew had a fit when i told him what i expected from him. All i told him was his gpa needed to be a b or better, no fighting, help with 1 stand setup, and needed to take his hat off in my lease owners home. Explained that if he was able to take an animals life hes able to handle those simple responsibilities. Im not budging on these standards,my daugters and other nephews also had the same standards set. So my question is what do you expect from your youth hunters? And what if anything did you have to do to go out?
