Hunted dark - dark with my Dad yesterday and today in Putnam County (3N). Very warm, some rain, very slow.
Yesterday combined we saw 3 deer (1 tiny spike, 1 doe, and 1 my Dad couldn't tell buck or doe). Each of us passed the same tiny spike about 20 minutes apart. I had him at literally 7 yards. Recently, started getting him on trail cam pics so he must be a local resident now. Heard shots were definitely much less than years past. Only heard 3 in the morning and maybe 10 throughout the rest of the day.
Today combined we saw 6 does and only heard 1 shot all day. All 6 does could have been shot easily (less than 40 yards).
Slowest opening weekend in many years for us. I'll be back out there next Saturday & Sunday, my Dad will be there all week dark - dark.
