  1. It was my Dad's first ever buck. He shot it in the 1960's. His two smallest mounted bucks are on that wall with the skull plates. The other one is a 6 pt. He shot the 6 pointer on December 6th and on my brother's 6th birthday in 1993.
  2. Are you joking? what so late in the morning and why so early at night?
  3. My Dad has hunted 13 out of the 16 gun season days so far. 12 days dark-dark. Thanksgiving dark - 12pm. It has been the slowest year in a while for him. So far the biggest buck he has seen was the 4pt he passed on opening day, which I shot 15-20minutes later.
  4. On the ground in my spot sitting against a big tree 1 hour before legal sunrise. Usually can see fine 30-40minutes before sunrise. Many times I have seen deer before sunrise but couldnt make out buck or doe till sunrise and then shot or didnt shoot. If I came in any later, I would have spooked them.
  5. When night hunting. I find like 10pm-2am to be the best. The colder the better too, maybe they get desperate for food?
  6. Yup, screw/nail right through. Then paint the head of the nail/screw with white-out. If you look closely you can see the stark white color of the screw/nail.
  7. I will till all deer seasons are done, so I can go out with rifle.
  8. I always ask the butcher to clean the skull cap the best he can. No guts, no hair. Then when I boil it on the stove, it doesn't stink. Pic of a portion of my Dad's collection below.
  9. When all deer seasons are closed, you can use a centerfire rifle. I hunt with a .243 after all deer seasons are closed in Putnam County (3N - Shotgun only).
  10. Cool, always wanted a color phase black bear.......someday
  11. I have seen Fishers in 3N and the catskills, both dead & alive.
  12. Saw this > 171"+ 8 pointer from Long Island? Not sure if the measurements are correct or not? http://www.nybowhunter.com/
  13. Vance wears weird clothes to hunt in. Blue & Grey?
  14. Probably humans putting deer carcasses in trees. Lions typically bury their kill and come back the next day. They don't typically stash them in trees.
  15. Excalibur Crossbow. I don't care if its legal or not, it attacked me.
  16. Stop educating the yotes! I want to go out calling with my e-caller next month!
  17. Im going to create a TV show in NY called "Chasing Lions". I will have a team and we will go through NYS interviewing people who saw lions. Then we will go into the woods and hear things that must be mountain lions. We will never actually get a picture of one or see one, but of course, they are here! and people will watch the show!
  18. Yea, I understand. My buck definitely wasn't in rut though when I shot him, and he was with spike I had tons of pics of. I'll never know for sure, but pretty cool to use trail cameras for the first year.
  19. I don't have enough mounts yet. Give me 20 years and 10-15 more hunting trips.
  20. Well there was only 3 bucks I got on trail camera. A spike, which I saw on opening morning and my Dad has seen it multiple times. This 4pt, which I might have shot. And lastly a 6pt, which got hit by car late October. No other bucks seen on camera since July, and no other bucks seen by my Dad who has been out dark-dark everyday since 11/17. I'm thinking it is the same buck. It's only 8 acres of property between houses.
  21. Haha, of course. To the OP, unless you got a pic dont bother with starting a topic about it. Have your buddy do some googling. Try "Mountain Lion" , then try "coyote" and "bobcat". He will soon realize what he saw was NOT A MOUNTAIN LION! 7 foot, 100lb+ lions don't go un-noticed.
  22. Belo - Going back to the original post. "Real men use bows." Well, real men shoot 80-100lb draw weight and shoot elk and deer out to 100yards. It's not just on youtube. I know someone who went to PSE and had them make a custom 100lb bow for them. So I guess that makes you a loser.
  23. and NJ as well. I believe it is up to like 15-20 states that allow it in archery.
  24. Nothing to hate on buddy. See you 10/1/13. I'll be the guy with the crossbow.
