  1. If an older woman who goes out after younger men is called a "cougar"..... what do you a call a man who goes after young boys? A NITTANY LION!
  2. Thanks, I have heard a lot of people say the Viper, I see there are 3 of them though? Viper SD Ultimate Viper SD (dont need this) Viper SDC Camo Climbing
  3. Never hunted out of a treestand in my life. Never needed it when hunting with a gun. After hunting from the ground with a crossbow, I think a treestand could help me. A climber would be ideal. Have 2 questions: 1. Which Summit to get? I'm 5'9" 170lbs. or another brand? 2. How do you lock your climber to a tree for a couple of days? The guys in the hunting camp I was with in PA, all locked their climbers to trees during their stay so they didnt have to carry them in and out each hunting session. Thanks in advance.
  4. Best bet I guess is going to them to sight in for 20, then go to some woods and test out 30,40,50,etc.
  5. what about an archery shop with an indoor range in westchester county or long island, etc...?
  6. all you need is 40-50 yards....I do it in my parents backyard.
  7. Congrats! Going for my first Mule Deer next October in Wyoming.

    Bear head

beetles work great! I use a guy in Greenfield Park named Scott. Company called Skulptures. I forget the website.
  9. Not sure, but when I was in PA I saw tons of people driving around "spotlighting", not hunting or poaching. Just driving back roads with 1 guy shining a spotlight out looking for big bucks, then hunt that area the next morning I assume?

    3N

so nobody got anything in 3N in archery so far? WOW.
  11. Tell your butcher you want to have the head mounted and not to cut the cape too short. Not sure if Cold Spring is Putnam Or Dutchess County, but I use this guy and his work is great! > http://www.foxstudiostaxidermy.com/
  12. I am always happy with an 8+ pointer regardless of inches.
  13. When I hunted in PA, the rule was that if you drew blood you were done hunting, so you better make your shot count. Obviously there is no way to enforce this in NY on private and public lands....maybe all the wounded deer will create more and more non-typicals in our state? lol
  14. exactly....and also note that they usually dont count brow points....so a 4x4 mule deer might be a 10 pointer.
  15. Assuming its a 6 pointer? I'll say 52"
  16. I agree, it is crazy.......I just went to PA to hunt for a week and it cost me $595 only, that was an insane deal....motel + food for a week would have been more!
  17. Yup, like everything else though....
  18. http://www.beartrak.com/ I am doing the Mule Deer/Antelope combo with Rifle. $5K

    Ticks

In PA last week I was pulling 5-10 off every single day.
  20. Already booked Bear Trak Outfitters in Wyoming for October 2012, thanks.
  21. pretty simple since elk is included, you got 2 choices. .270 weatherby magnum or 7mm Weatherby. Either with a Leupold scope.
  22. I wanted to extend my hunting beyong just gun, I planned to buy a compound, but due to a severely separated shoulder in my dominate arm, I was unable to pull back on a compound. Luckily, I am able to cock a crossbow which is bending over and standing straight up and using 2 hands. Thats why I bought a crossbow. As far as comparison, I have no idea since I never shot a compound. 1 advantage is that the crossbow is already cocked, so you can shoot when you see a shooter, with the compound you have to draw your bow. 99% of compound hunters hunt from treestands. I had no problem hunting from the ground since my crossbow was already cocked so it was like sitting with a gun that can only shoot 40-50 yards.
  23. Lastly, I strongly recommend the camp I stayed at. Little General Hunting Lodge in Penfield, PA. Rich Laurent is the owner and has a website.
  24. Hunted in Pennsylvania for 4 ½ days (Clearfield County, Units 2E & 2G), about 5 hours away. Was hunting heavy laurel fields in the mornings and food plots in the afternoon. All land was public state forest hunting property. Wish NY had food plots on the public land. In the 4 ½ days I saw 28 does and 8 bucks. I was hunting from the ground with an Excalibur Crossbow, my first time hunting without a gun. Legal bucks in these areas are 3 points to one side at a minimum. I saw one giant 8 pointer (120+) at 113 yards and one nice 7 pointer at 68 yards. Both would have been easy gun kills. The other 6 points were all within 40 yards as were many of the does, but of course these bucks were spikes, 3’s, 4’s, etc….not legal. All in all, it was a great experience hunting public land and seeing tons of deer especially since the weather wasn’t the greatest. 61 degrees 2 of the days. Didn’t see any bucks chasing does. A few guys in my camp passed up and took video of nice legal bucks I definitely would have taken. I didn’t come home empty handed however, as I shot a porcupine on the 1st day while walking out of the woods. Should make a cool mount. A few pics attached. Next up, shotgun season Nov. 19th here in NY.
  25. You dont need to take bow hunter ed to hunt with crossbow. You have to take the gun hunter's safety course and sign the crossbow certificate.
