  1. ARod under contract for another 5+ years = YIKES! CC Sabathia gained like 40lbs during the year, if he opts out, his weight gain will probably cost him $20-$30M total on his next contract....stupid
  2. Many nice bucks are taken every year on state land and/or watershed land in Putnam County and Catskills
  3. Porcupines are open year-round and would make a cool mount. Take em out!
  4. any guesses as to when there would be a moose season in NY? Had a female moose in Putnam County a few years back.
  5. If you can't shoot 300 yards, dont bother ever going out west for Muley's and Antelopes. Most shots out there average 200+yards, ask any outfitter. Even westchester County has ranges with 200 yard targets!
  6. when your sitting in the woods with a .243 during bow deer season and you have "bay bee cottontail" distress call blaring from an electronic caller, I think they will get the point.
  7. Turkey season opened October 1st! Take your shotgun and hunt turkeys! You are allowed 2 each (either sex).
  8. I agree and also in some cases like British Columbia (if I remember correctly) you cannot legally hunt without your guide being with you at all times.
  9. as a base level, I usually give 10% to the guide 5% to the cook. Lots of times the cook is the guides wife. If I get something, I am usually in a pretty good mood and then give more in addition to the 10% to the guide. It also depends on the cost of the hunt/charter. On a $300 fishing charter, I give $50 if its sucessful (16-17%). On a $5,000 hunt, I'd give like $750 (15%).
  10. I repeat, I know tons of jewish people who hunt and have hunted for generations. However, I dont know any jewish people who are hardcore to the point of only eating "kosher" food, etc........maybe thats the difference?
  11. why not just tie it down on top of the trunk or roof......no need for tarp, etc.....just hose your car down when your down.
  12. You couldnt be more wrong. Im catholic but know tons and tons of jewish people who hunt. Most of them came from families from Yonkers and have been hunting the catskills, etc since the 50's and 60's....
  13. simple....shoot the deer, gut it out, load onto car/truck and drive straight to the butcher!
  14. honestly, whats the point of poaching whitetails? I understand elephants for the sale of ivory, etc....but what does a poacher get out of a whitetail, especially if they are leaving the meat behind? who buys antlers?

Oh ok....yea I heard state land in putnam is tough, although my dad got a few small bucks out of Lockwood. I think the bow hunters get em all before the gun season.

Private 8 acres in Putnam, but sometimes Lockwood. I was actually at Big Buck yesterday....its very heavy and overgrown there, I never hunted deer there, do you ever have any success there with bucks?
  17. Nice Bear! Id love to get a bear in NY.
  18. Thats a monster 7, congrats....any idea on what something like that scores? just curious...
  19. congrats. where is 2E? I think I am hunting 2G (Clearfield County) the first week of Nov. with the crossbow.
  20. Yankees wont win the WS, they have CC and nothing else. Nova was 16-4, but look at his peripherals, not very impressive. Even if they get by Detroit (which I doubt), they wont beat the Rays/Rangers, but if they do that too somehow, they (especially CC pitching on 3 days rest the whole postseason) will stand no chance vs. the Phillies and Halladay, Lee, Hamels. Only 1 team each year wins the WS for every other team, nothing else matters. who cares if you won the division, wildcard, alds, etc......In the last 10 years, only 1 team has won more than 1 WS.....the Red Sox....which shows MLB has great parody in the playoffs and thats what makes it great.
  21. Im going 10/30 - 11/6 with the crossbow to Clearfield County.
  22. I have to agree. I hunt on 8 acres in Putnam County, no food plots, etc. I dont see many deer each year, mostly does, but either my father or I usually get a buck every single year, lots of small bucks, but some 6,7,8,9's
