Thanks for advice all. Yes, I do mean black bear. A bushman guide I had in Alberta, once he told me that he lost many more friends to black bear than to grizzlies. In Grizzly country I'd be with a rifle anyway, im talking about black bear country while hunting with a crossbow or while fishing remote areas. Seems like a revolver would appear to be the best option, even though the semi looks alot cooler lol. Thoughts on this http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Handguns/Revolvers-Miscellaneous%7C/pc/104792580/c/105526980/sc/105527880/Smith-Wesson-J-Frame-Centerfire-Revolvers/733704.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-handguns-revolvers-miscellaneous%2F_%2FN-1102337%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105527880%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat105526980&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat105526980%3Bcat105527880http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Handguns/Revolvers-Miscellaneous%7C/pc/104792580/c/105526980/sc/105527880/Smith-Wesson-J-Frame-Centerfire-Revolvers/733704.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-handguns-revolvers-miscellaneous%2F_%2FN-1102337%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105527880%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat105526980&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat105526980%3Bcat105527880 what caliber? so many choices.

I have my pistol permit already. In the market for a pistol. Will not be shooting it that often. More of just a home safety gun as well as maybe carrying it on my hip in bear country, etc. Any suggestions? Semi or Revolver? Price-wise, Im open to anything under $1K, would prefer like $500-$750 obviously. Thanks in advance.

He probably came into the scent of you gutting fish and not the calls. However, I have called in fox with a doe bleat call....cant imagine a fox trying to take down a doe?

Ok, thanks. My crossbow broadheads (excalibur boltcutters) are the same then. I manually put the razor blades into the broadhead and then into the bolt(arrow). So I guess technically, I could do the same. I just assumed if you shoot a deer your bolt (arrow) would be destroyed by breaking, shattering, bending, etc.? because I assumed this, I bought 24 bolts (arrows) and 24 broadheads and a bunch of fieldpoint tips as well. Guess I might be set for life then? lol

" I did change out some broadhead blades." Not trying to be a wise-ass or anything. I don't bow hunt. But did buy a crossbow which i plan on using this year. My question is why are you changing broadhead blades? I practice mostly with field points, but also do practice with 1 broadhead and they shoot the same. I keep the 1 broadhead as a practice bolt/broadhead. But when it comes to hunting, I will be using a brand new bolt/broadhead. Doesn't everbody do this? or am I missing something...

Good Luck....definitely look for water and downhill. In my experience, deer run downhill when pushed and towards water, sometimes go in the water and then die. Also, someone mentioned the deer tracking thing. It is legal in NY, and I think the DEC even has info on it, I never used it, but heard great things about it. Maybe worth a shot?

I am from Putnam County. I work in NYC, so I lived in NYC for a couple of years, got sick of renting and recently just bought my first place in Westchester County. I went to Alberta a few years back for Wolf, didnt see any but I did get a coyote. The day I left, the next hunter there for a week got 2 wolves the first morning. It's so hit or miss. My dad went on 3 wolf hunts before getting 2 nice black ones in British Columbia with Babine Outfitters.

that yote looks long....nice 8, nice pics!

Yes, you can bring wolf back now. Not personally, but the guide can ship it to you after cites permits, etc.

maybe its different in a tree stand? never hunted in one. But I can't read, look at my phone or anything....i just sit there and try not to move for as long as I can. Every 3-4 hours I stand up and stretch and then sit back down against a tree.

your best bet is to look online through the Texas hunting websites, etc.

depends on where im hunting.....in NY, YES im shooting that deer 3 minutes into the season on opening day. If im in a different state where bigger bucks are more common, than maybe not.

Going to PA 10/30 - 11/6 (no sunday hunting though) with the crossbow.

I just prefer to give even #'s. I am going on a Bobcat Hunt for $1600 in Minnesota in December. If sucessful, I'd give $200, which comes out to like 12%. When I go to Wyoming for Mule/Antelope and its $5200, if I am sucessful and harvest a nice Muley and Antelope I will have no problem giving at least 10% ($500). If I were to get skunked and not have an oppportunity to shoot, its a different story I guess.

Who else is estatic that the Red Sox are out of the postseason?
BizCT replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
you can find a B&C buck very easily on a "canned hunt". Maybe someday there will be a place that raises starting pitchers the same way these deer farms raise giant bucks from birth...then the starting rotation would be just 1 guy who pitches every inning of every single game lol.
