I hunt high-pressure mixed-use suburban public land and think Evercalm helps. It may be less useful in areas where there is relatively little human intrusion. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I use Evercalm sporadically. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

First year hunt in retirement, Multiple successes with Irony

I noticed that the deer are hung from the front hocks. Is there an advantage to this? Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -

Has anyone been successful at Rocky point long island this year?

Try Otis Pike or some of the smaller parcels as well. I will PM you a couple spot numbers in Otis Pike that are good, but because they are good most times they are already taken....surprise, surprise, right? If it were October (or even pre-season) I would meet & show you to a couple spots that I've had success in, but I rarely hunt NYSDEC managed land this late in the season. In general, terrain features such as draws, saddles and benches serve as travel corridors. If I were scouting via topo maps, these features would definitely be on my places to check out. That's what I did for my CO DIY public land trip 2 years ago for mulies. It did not pan out for me though. Instead the locals advised to hunt the small rough parcels next to ag and voila, that's where we found them. Deer had food and cover and little need to travel. So to the OP, I generally agree that terrain features are important and can increase odds of success, but putting yourself between food and bedding and local knowledge of what deer are doing at that time are more important. If you Google "terrain features draw" you will find a description and contour map. Ditto saddle. A bench is a relatively flat spot on a hillside. This is denoted by wider contour intervals between sets of relatively closer contour lines. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I was wondering why you wouldn't just use one of the 30-30's? Hunting ammo in just about every caliber has been hard to find, unfortunately. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I was invited to a friend's camp opening weekend. It is a small parcel that I've never seen, far less hunted. I plan to get the lay of the land on Friday and roll the dice on where to sit. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -

I also like the NAP Spitfires. Even though I have damaged a couple on deer, they don't go far. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Hypothermia is a real thing. Please be safe. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -
If you are not seeing deer, I would try a different spot or a different part of the public land spot you are hunting. Even though there is deer sign, it may not be fresh or the deer may be using the area outside hunting hours or when you are not there. If what you are doing is not working, it is time to try something different. Perhaps try some still hunting, and cover some more ground. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Had 2 does and a fawn come by around 4:25 pm, but no bucks in tow. They behaved more like it was mid October. I was also surprised how tolerant they were. All 3 passed within 10 yards downwind of me and I was only about 12' up and wind was maybe 5 mph. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -
Stand height varies with cover, visibility and shoot ability. I hunt Long Island Oct-Jan. Mostly 10-14' until leaves drop then 16-20' late season. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
