look your the one that said quote"not be allowed to run free under any circumstances". I was just pointing out how wrong you were. I was not asking a question. Listen i have to gun dogs and two coonhounds and i know how to hunt with each of the breeds my dogs dont run push or chase deer. Not sure where the trespassing came from either way the guy that was shooting dogs was trophy hunting. some delusional dude with a twisted sense of reality...There once was a dog named JD he was shot by a neighbor laws do not always work. if your going to do stupid things like shoot dogs your most likely stupid enough to tell someone about what you did.And now with the internet telling on yourself is so much easier. so when I do hunt with dogs unleashed they are completely out of my control...Any time you unleash your dog you are relinquishing control to the dog. Dogs make decisions and as an owner I am responsible for them at all times. fortunately for me my dogs trust me and i couldnt ask for anything more.

Grinders ,slicers ,and a deer table with a five foot counter top that i welded a base for out of 1 inch aluminum . i dont have a garage so i spent some more time in the weld shop built a sixteen foot 6x6x6 inch triangular tower sunk it in the ground . then i welded a truss out of 1.375 inch galvanized pipe, welded in a couple u bolts and my deer swing was ready for action so it goes from the top of the tower to a notch in a tree perfect the deer like to swing in my yard

I use garden loppers for the legs you know the two foot handled limb cutters they do a great job

I have been there. Last year i suffered with a double ear infection , first week of October i didn't even get in the woods until November. It was a one deer year. Hunting was tough last year for me .I hate being just a tree huger. Thank goodness for vacuum sealers. best-est invention ever next to my muzzle loader

how are you going to hunt birds with a leashed dog or mountain lion or bear or raccoons and lets not forget the hog.. you see this is the kind of one minded mentality that we have to deal with. Absolute foolishness My dogs dont need to be leashed and if your dog does then you need someone to train it for you.

when you process your deer. what do you do with the back leg . debone the entire thing by separating the muscles, or what i saw these guys do. cut through the meat to the bone all the way around the leg and then saw it off for steaks of course they did not have a band saw ,that would have made it easier... for you guys that have it done for you is this what the butcher does... whats the better way/ preferred way lets get some votes and crunch the numbers on preferences.

Its funny because its true ..

processing is important for the final flavor. Gutting to ageing. after i gut the deer being careful to leave the kidneys attached to the back . I leave the heart and lungs in the chest liver stays too. My pack of dogs thrive on the stuff. i barley get noticed when i come home from deer hunting . i get a sniff and when that sniff clicks to i was hunting deer they all haul ass out side its funny stuff. but back to the processing Once i start to butcher i separate by muscle .. throw all the bone out once your dogs chew the balls off the ends... Never let your dog crack the bone or eat the long parts splinters and as we all know those splintered deer legs are sharp and tough.. you would be surprised at how many people saw through the whole leg and call it a steak. Its a mistake. different muscles cook at different temps to be cook properly. de bone and your going to be way ahead of the game. and dont forget to slice out all the rib meat . it s dog bacon at our home.

I always butcher my deer. No one and i mean no one puts their hands on my meat except my wife.

well to be honest for me it is all about shooting deer. i surely don't go to the supermarket just for the ambience. If i didnt get a deer i would consider it a disastrous season. hope the healing goes well. i am waiting for deer season to be over with before i have rotater cuff surgery. i wouldnt afford the time from my shopping for surgery.sure being in the woods is the best but without the harvest your just a hiker
-
i usually will let my deer hang for a week . the meat needs time to relax. everyone who comes to my house for venison says they love it. We eat as little beef as we can
-
@aqua750. i almost wet my pants ... you just have to love good humor....... the drag would have been much easier if he did.

I have been hunting for 40 + years. and never once have i even been close to shooting any one but i have been close to slugs hitting trees near me. Yet today i was on my hands and knees in full camo crawling through the brush trying to push deer to my buddy that was about 80 yards up the woods in a ladder stand. Now if you think that was stupid and careless and you would not do what i did then maybe you should check yourself and your hunting partners and do a little reflecting, some soul searching. whats the matter people don't you trust your buddies with your lives . if you don't get some new friends. good luck and shoot straight and for heavens sake don't shoot anything that not a deer. you guys sound like a bunch a scared kids afraid of their own shadows. and as far as hunter numbers go we all know that government mind control beef is so easy to get . why shoot a deer when you can have a big mac. Kids are lazy . why go to the woods when you can bring the woods to your television... and shoot monster bucks and get immediate satisfaction. There is no time in peoples lives already who has time to go hunt.. there are so many reasons why hunter numbers are declining. two day course holy crap i don't think i would have bothered if that was the case when i was a kid. the hunter safety course was only about four hours in Pennsylvania then the one i took here was in a guys basement again only a couple hours.it takes years to learn the art of hunting no one has that time anymore. and anyway so what .All that means is there are less idiots in the woods.. but not where i hunt i walked by two guys this morning wearing some orange and no shit they didnt shoot me. still feeling safe in my camo after all these years. so do we need laws and more laws. Lets regulate everything we possibly can.so that the government can have more of our money and scared folks will feel safe in the woods.holy crap this shit is bizarre. i am going to sell my orange coat

I clean and brush swab and brush clean and brush and swab and brush. get the idea... never never get the swab to come out clean even after day one i quit went to bed then work the next day and back to the smoke pole clean and brush swab and brush still dirty. these things are a pain in the rump. but the sure do group well out past 100 yards. its worth the effort

How many bullets do you bring in the field when you hunt
vizslas replied to Deerstalker's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
one in the tube and three speedloaders in my camo jacket.. I have been able to shoot a doe and get a second shot at a deer that had not made up her mind to run or stay. she stayed right there . so just in case i need a finish shot i carry four -
look first of all you guys took "across his bow ' way to literally . First of all verbal warning did nothing, second , nor did the posted sign that he was next to. the guy lives around the corner and trespasses at will, cuts trees that dont belong to him. Nothing illegal about me deer hunting there. He wants to hunt the land and is to lazy to walk over or drive the two minutes. This fella does not give a rats ass about what he does. so there was an exclamation point put out into the middle of the damn field and no where near or pointed at this guy . i am floored that you flippen righteous preachers cant read a post and put it into perspective do i really need to draw a picture. i am going to say this one more time the guy was 60 yards to my left and ten to fifteen yards in front of me. The deer i shot at was directly north..in the front of me... I was facing North and this guy was to the west so if I shot North how can you or anyone say it was a dangerous thing to do. now if this guy started to shoot at me then we would have had a different situation on our hands. which could have gotten real ugly real fast. and since the bullet would have had to come out of the muzzle for 30 feet and take a 90 degree turn hard left to hit someone.I say lets test it. i will stand there with a dam bulls eye on my chest. Pick your shooter. @Deerstalker where do you come off with those statments like i will kill you or shoot you. Come on back to the thread ,nobody said anything like that. First of all like any intelligent human being i am not going to tell you that i am going to shoot you , or kill you. why give your opponent your game plan thats foolish at best... hahaha just kidding but seriously nothing was said like that come on back to reality and stop making things up that are not true . its almost like you are spreading rumors andf falsehoods just to juice up the post ... Thats kind pathetic.Almost Democratic hahahahahahaaaaaa

some people just dont have it . they forge ahead blindly ,sometimes luck happens. I do what i can to raise my percentages. if I dont tag five deer then I dont have enough for summer sausage. so be smart play the wind and dont be lazy. you have to put the work in to anything to be good at it. woods time range time, the right equipment. If I walk into the field with my climber and gun well we are over into the $1500 worth of gear to get up a tree and shoot a deer. Ok say it i know you can do it for a lot less Ie. no tree stand. cheep boots cotton long johns,.. its all about the preseason...
-
dude your a blithering idiot. what part of I didnt shoot at him. is there something I am missing here or are you just as confused as hell.
-
look besides being fixated on by some nut job with a rifle and a scope I dont want to be seen. I do not hunt state land. but i do hunt several county's and some of them include rifle zones.I havent worn my orange in over ten years. Nice coat i paid a couple hundred bucks for it.
-
let me say this . Deer do not look like people whether they wear orange or not I hunt in full camo because i dont want people to get object fixation. you will never be able to spot me in your scope. look my hunting buddies do not wear orange either, and I have never mistaken them for deer . it is just bizarre to me that this EXCUSE and nothing more than an excuse for being a retard . and I do know that the people who hunt on adjacent land do not hunt in orange.400 500 600 800 yards and i can still tell a deer from a human or a coyote.

My waterproof boots...aren't.
vizslas replied to Core's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Irish setter makes a couple boots i like .The Elk Stalker is full leather and we alll know how durable leather si. i also have a pair of the gortex boots from irish setter i think they are 450 grams of insulation the elk stalkers are 1000... . i do sparay my gortex boots with a shot of silicon spray during those wet hunts it just a bit of extra security and i try not to stomp the briars in them either. -
I would not nor ever try to justify anything that I do .For everything that I do has a more than reasonably acceptable outcome. I would think that you have never walked a field with a group of guys on a bird hunt. They all carry guns, or have ever pushed a section of woods with said group of guys and again all gun toting and ready to shoot. Maybe you should stay uptown with all the one minded 4wheel drive shiny pickup driving rednecks so you don't get shot in the field .

i have a 303 British and the soft points just fragment . i have to kinda feel around for lead in the meat. i just shot a doe at 120 yrds. the bullet a Barnes mz expander 250 grain went through the back of the elbow cut the breast plate in half and exited through the other shoulder breaking it. didn't find this until i cut her up tonight a piece broke off and traveled up her neck and exited out the side neck about six inches below the jaw..

your an idiot people stand closer to the front of guns on a range . get a grip dude cant you think in three dimensions. Let me irritate this to you in a language that may help you ... the guy was more than half o foot ball field to my left, and about as far in front of me as your television is in front of your couch. i hope that helps. @ Deerstalker even if it was a bad idea ,the outcome was a smashing success. look just because i have the balls to do what i did and in a safe manner .i think i was just ,after a verbal warning the guy just stood there .guess he didnt hear me in that quiet field.
-
hey otto this guy was sixty yards to my left and only fifteen yards in front of my blind the shot was no where near this guy. he was in front of the gun so he got all the noise .i did scare him though i doubt he will be back. it was just an informative shot because he just stood there after i said something to him. just a little attitude adjustment
