  1. We have had 4" of rainfall here, since last Thursday. To say, the word is wet grounds would be an understatement. Scraped plans for field corn, but going to get some popcorn in by the 10th, hopefully. My pumpkin ground is worked, but held off planting till this weekend, yeh right. We have already had .65 of an inch since 7 am this morning. I'll summer fallow what I don't get planted, and put in more radish, oats, forage corn, and wheat in late August.
  2. Would that be Folgers, LOL. Salada tea, anyone?
  3. Never have been a fan of sprays. I use the method of what the old timers called " summer follow." This is for late summer, early fall planted crops. I'll plow in the spring, disc the ground fairly well, then let it sit until weed seeds germinate and grow. I'll continue to disc new growth right up till the time I'm ready to plant. It also give the ground a rest and the summer time rains, also help work it and make it mellow. I'll use it on any legume, kale, wheat, oats,, forage corn, and radish.
  4. When I entered the Hamburg, PA. location, thought I had died and gone to heaven. One can only hope, LOL.
  5. Yeh, sounds like u have a nice setup. Try to get those pics posted.
  6. It all looks real nice. Great wildlife habitat.
  7. Have a Happy Birthday Culver. Boy, what it would be like being 48 again, LOL.
  8. Did someone mention radish?, LOL. Isn't it nice when a plan comes together?
  9. Cuomos approval rating has hit rock bottom. The New York Safe act has done him in. He has do do something to try to get that approval rating somewhere above 50 percentile to even have a chance to run for this states governership. He's has much lower odds to the run for president, if he doesn't get reelected in NY.. On the money line. a governer has X amount of dollars to advertise in any shape, fit, or form, to get his message out. I think this guy, may be extending his credit.
  10. Nothing like campaining on taxpayers money. You got to know by now, that these politicians don't do anything for the people anymore! Their look'in out for number ONE.
  11. Freezers are pretty straight forward refrigeration units. Most failures have to do with moisture eating away at the tube joints. Because of this, a moist basement is the worst place to keep a freezer. Refrigerators have more electrical components. Far more failures in the electrical side rather than leaking refrigerant. Most companies intall the circuit boards, that control the evaporator fan and the defrost mode, in the refrigerator side. This circuit board fails quite often, with evaporator fan motors failures coming in a strong 2nd. The mechanical vent control, that funnels cold air from the freezer side, failure fall 3rd.
  12. Most people just plow, not paying any attention to the old back furrows. You may already be doing this, but if you plow into the old " back furrows", 1-, you keep the land fairly even or can even control the drainage elevation of each " land "; 2. you help with the drainage, erosion problems; 3. the land gets moved back and forth evenly; 4- helps with weed seed control in the soils. Now this may hold more true on " flatlanders" ( LOL) heavier type of ground where surface drainage is needed to grow a crop, but the plowing methods still holds true on all types of soils
  13. Nice pics on the new Covert. I like the daytime shots but, I don't know if the night shots beat the Moultries. I tend to get more night pics. One advantage to the Covert though, doesn't seem to be much noise from the cam.
  14. I have Quickweed in some areas of new seeding hay fields. It likes loamy soil more than heavy. I cut the hay before the stuff goes to seed and that seems to hold it in check. I'm not a fan of sprays, but would think any pre emergence incorporated into the soil would only allow the growth of grasses. Any broadleaf planted, would be affected by the spray. We used 2-4-D on it , years ago, when we grew acres of oats for grain. I believe farmers are the only one permitted to buy it in todays world. As far as deer eating it, tends to be bitter, most animals leave it in the dry hay.
  15. Sorry to hear that! I lost a 10 cu ft one 5th of May.. Caught it in time though, and had to scramble everything into the other two. Luckily they were down on reserves, but had to move the hides out and gett'em tanned quick.
  16. Makes sense grow. These tax free zones are the biggest farce going. Since they don't cut spending, who do u think makes up the difference? Other property owners, of coarse. Albany still needs the money. I'll stop here, since this is a Cabelas thread. Shall we start a new thread?
  17. The big Lowes store sits empty right now, right across from Home Depot. Batavia had been growing a few years ago, not so much today. The brakes have been put on. As far as a Cabelas location, Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga, is an idea spot to draw NY, PA., OH, and Canadian customer alike. On a personal level, it may not be such a great location, as I may become "over drawn" alot, If it's anything like their Hamburg, PA. location, LOL.
  18. Special congrats to Woodsman 20 & GR8WhiteHunter. Nice job guys! Also congrats to all that got a turkey(s), ( some very nice birds taken) and to those that participated in the Spring Turkey Season in general. To me, you'll all winners. A big "THANK YOU " goes out to WNYBuckHunter for taking his time putting it all together and running a fine contest.
  19. GR8WhiteHunter came in with a beauty that hasn't been scored yet. It's going to be close!
  20. Beatiful bird, congrats. Can't imange what the smell is, but might be worth a phone call to DEC.. It's going to be close!
  21. The uniqueness of this bird is the fullness of the beards. It pretty rare to see 3 beards let alone 3 full ones. You must have something in the water, LOL.
  22. Yeh, the road can't handle the traffic now at certain times of day. Maybe the state will throw us an empty bone for that, LOL. I
  23. Excuse me for being skeptical, but Bass Pro was coming to Buffalo, until the planning board set so high standards, that eventually give up the idea. We have been dealt to many broken promises in the past to be a high believer in the future.
  24. Never in a million years, would of thought a rattler could get that large in the north. Seen a few small ones on state land, but thought our cold winters held them in check. Of coarse, we haven't had one in a while. The venom in that beast, one would think the person bit wouldn't have a high survival rate. Might be a good time to post snake bite treatment facts.
