Nice to see crossbows drawing people back to this state. Glad they enjoyed themselves. Agreed, mandatory reporting of all tags, would help, but NY wants to raise hunter numbers, not lower them further.
-
I would like to run this by, see what u think. Where do you think the crossbow harvest numbers will be in the summary, for NYS 2011 season harvest? Archery. Even though crossbows are only allowed in archery season. Their will be a spike in archery harvest numbers. Maybe this was the goal for the archers, that were against crossbow in archery season, get the archery harvest numbers higher, using crossbows without crossbow use in the season. Or maybe this was the goal of the DEC. With the magic DEC wand, they will shoot out a higher number. With another wave of the wand, they will tell how many used the crossbow. Some please explain to me how this state operates.

Rochester GUn show at the Dome
landtracdeerhunter replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in NY Hunting Calendar / Events
How large of a show is this, never been. Back when I bought my last shotgun, had to wait days for paper work to clear. That was before the computer. Been a while. -
nyantler, I would assume the crossbow harvest would fall under the archery heading in the NYBBC record book. Is their anything going to be done different from the other archery heading listings?
-
It would be interesting to know how each state uses its number rating. Depending on the circumstance, some hunting related accidents are not officially recorded under that heading.

Harvest of a buck with any bow, during SO. muzzle loader season is terrific, congrats. Was DEC .paying closer attention to those who harvested a deer with a crossbow? Was there more questions asked on the Decals program, then with firearms?
-
Be depressed, hunting season ended Tuesday. To top it off, the big 140"+ 9 pt. that came in to me at bow season, with no shot, was taken out by a vehicle Monday night. Then yesterday, started removing stands. We'll at least they come down easier then they went up. Maybe I'll do some Christmas shopping to lift the old spirits today, BP, Dicks, Gander, anyone, lol.

Christmas card quality, thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas. -
Opinions expressed are solely that. Attacks, on the other hand are "Strong Opinions with Attitude"

Grow, no mention of your food plots. Think there nutritional value changing might have something to do with it?

Anytime a person heads afield, their is a risk of injury or death in hunting seasons, period. You can take steps to lower that risk, but the risk is still there. Personally, I like to take steps to lower the risk. I would hope my neighbor is willing to do the same. Their will always be people in the field, not dressed like U want them to be, for one reason or another. That will never change.

bubba, Why is NYS only letting instructors teach 15 minutes in the class? Can an instructor spend more time on a subject if they think it needs it? I received a good video with my Winchester muzzleloader, but I agree with your point. I think this is a very important discussion, if crossbow use is in someone future. The instructors for our hunter safety classes with top notch guys. My hats off to you for your time well spent.

A flintlock in your hands would be great in any deer season, lol.
-
Would make every effort to find that deer. Fill in the tag, and call the DEC for further instructions once found. Write down names of people spoken to.
-
If U find it, fill tag in, attach it and call the DEC for a heads up on the situation. Don't think I would move it until I asked if it's ok. Also write down names of people spoken to for further review if needed. Hey, a least he got shots on a nice muzzleloader buck. Hope U find it, good luck.

It's an Eastman X-Force 300DX, 2 years old. It's actually my sons, but he let me use it. I'm up for more of a challenge with a crossbow. Too bad it's the last night. Ohio runs the crossbow safety coarse with the archery .
-
Wish I would of practiced more with the crossbow, so I could of takened it out during muzzleloading season. Didn't have the confidence for its use this year, but next year, I'll be using it. Does NY offer some type of a safety coarse? Watching the video and filling out, carrying, the certificate of qualification is not enough.
-
How about a late Archery- crossbow season, like Ohio does. Was out this morning, deer seem good and calm right now. Nice 120 lb doe at 30 yds, passed on her. Few buttons, and doe fawns are seemed the same like October 15th bow start. Weather was perfect, light N wind, partly cloudy skies. Really enjoyed the morning.
-
How in the world, do you find such things? lol
-
No. How to extend it, have a late muzzleloader license tag. Those people that want to take part , buy the tag. Those that want to continue to hunt can, and increase revenue for the state. A win win situration. Count me in on a year like this one.

We own 4 Moultrie i40 GameSpy,( oldest 4 years), 1 Moultrie i60, and a Stealth cam STC-1540IR ( first IR OUT) 6- D battery life in the Moultries, at least 3 months on 700 pics. Trigger speed is fast enough on scrapes and rubs, but to slow in trails on the i40. The I 60 seems a little better on this. I feel that we are missing pics on all models. Good daytime pics, but some blurry night pics on all models. As stated above, lost LCD screen on 2 of the i40s, and lost it on the I60 now as well. Have not tried to contact customer service, but I refuse to pull teeth, lol. This is the first trouble we've had since new. I wouldn't buy an 80 or 100 model because they went to C batteries. Think they shrunk the case, Ds wouldn't fit. The Stealth C batteries last 2 weeks, Take pics when it wants, but are clear night and day. It's still works good for a first 5 year old IR camera.

Just kidden with ya. Enjoy the new gun from an 870 owner/ little recoil. -
Seen one hanging on a swing set in the sun Sat.. Went by yesterday, and it"s still hangin. I know we had 2- 20 degrees nights last weekend, but isn't that pushing it a little. That"s some really aged meat. Is their any regulation on that from the D.E.C..

More expensive guns don't getya more deer. -
I understood that any meat market, butcher shop, or any other type of processor' that sells any other type of meat to the public, cannot process deer in the same building. Is this true? A chinese fast food take out place in WNY was closed down for processing deer in their kitchen a few years back
