  1. This thread and the answers on it are interesting, to say the least.
  2. I am thankful for the season we have right now. I can take my muzzle loader out during the whole gun season, if I choose. We should take a look at what we have, think of what we could loose, and maybe form a union, lol.
  3. It would be livestock, report it. It is against the law to shoot someones loose livestock. No pics, loss reports, fair game. After the tag is observed, report it. Just waisted a bullet, I think scorers would check for removed tag holes. I know I, would be really bummed. Maybe if you're lucky, get some meat out of the whole ordeal. Bet this happens quite a bit. Grow, are U saying this happened to U?
  4. In the last couple years, quite a few new orchards( mainly apples) have been established in our area. Around these orchards. 10 foot tall fencing is being installed to keep deer out. These are replacing some acreage of older orchards, which is being put back into crop production. I realize, establishment of a new orchards is a huge investment, and loss of crop, is large enough to justify fence installation. I would do the same, if growing the same crop, and often wondered why they didn't do this sooner. I have also noticed that the fence changes the routing of deer, and increases road kill where fences run along busy road rightaways. This is a heads up, and any of your thoughts on the subject?
  5. Deer like to consume pumpkins. I always plant quite a few extra, leaves enough for family use. I plant them in field corn to conserve space. They always seem to eat the best ones.
  6. i look out at my 5 acre parcel. Not much to hunt on, but as stated above, anytime a parcel of land is available, I'd garb it. You might want to go to the town hall, where the parcel is located, to review the accessment, to eliminate any surprises.
  7. I enjoy farming, farm equipment repairing, beekeeping, hunting, creek fishing, nature walks, sharing time with my children, grand children, and other to many to mention. Going to do some more creek fishing this year, kick the old shoes off, and put my feet in the grass, looking out for those nettles. For New Years, I want to build on my listening skills
  8. Nice to see crossbows drawing people back to this state. Glad they enjoyed themselves. Agreed, mandatory reporting of all tags, would help, but NY wants to raise hunter numbers, not lower them further.
  9. I would like to run this by, see what u think. Where do you think the crossbow harvest numbers will be in the summary, for NYS 2011 season harvest? Archery. Even though crossbows are only allowed in archery season. Their will be a spike in archery harvest numbers. Maybe this was the goal for the archers, that were against crossbow in archery season, get the archery harvest numbers higher, using crossbows without crossbow use in the season. Or maybe this was the goal of the DEC. With the magic DEC wand, they will shoot out a higher number. With another wave of the wand, they will tell how many used the crossbow. Some please explain to me how this state operates.
  10. How large of a show is this, never been. Back when I bought my last shotgun, had to wait days for paper work to clear. That was before the computer. Been a while.
  11. nyantler, I would assume the crossbow harvest would fall under the archery heading in the NYBBC record book. Is their anything going to be done different from the other archery heading listings?
  12. It would be interesting to know how each state uses its number rating. Depending on the circumstance, some hunting related accidents are not officially recorded under that heading.
  13. Harvest of a buck with any bow, during SO. muzzle loader season is terrific, congrats. Was DEC .paying closer attention to those who harvested a deer with a crossbow? Was there more questions asked on the Decals program, then with firearms?
  14. Be depressed, hunting season ended Tuesday. To top it off, the big 140"+ 9 pt. that came in to me at bow season, with no shot, was taken out by a vehicle Monday night. Then yesterday, started removing stands. We'll at least they come down easier then they went up. Maybe I'll do some Christmas shopping to lift the old spirits today, BP, Dicks, Gander, anyone, lol.
  15. Opinions expressed are solely that. Attacks, on the other hand are "Strong Opinions with Attitude"
  16. Grow, no mention of your food plots. Think there nutritional value changing might have something to do with it?
  17. Anytime a person heads afield, their is a risk of injury or death in hunting seasons, period. You can take steps to lower that risk, but the risk is still there. Personally, I like to take steps to lower the risk. I would hope my neighbor is willing to do the same. Their will always be people in the field, not dressed like U want them to be, for one reason or another. That will never change.
  18. bubba, Why is NYS only letting instructors teach 15 minutes in the class? Can an instructor spend more time on a subject if they think it needs it? I received a good video with my Winchester muzzleloader, but I agree with your point. I think this is a very important discussion, if crossbow use is in someone future. The instructors for our hunter safety classes with top notch guys. My hats off to you for your time well spent.
  19. A flintlock in your hands would be great in any deer season, lol.
  20. Would make every effort to find that deer. Fill in the tag, and call the DEC for further instructions once found. Write down names of people spoken to.
  21. If U find it, fill tag in, attach it and call the DEC for a heads up on the situation. Don't think I would move it until I asked if it's ok. Also write down names of people spoken to for further review if needed. Hey, a least he got shots on a nice muzzleloader buck. Hope U find it, good luck.
  22. It's an Eastman X-Force 300DX, 2 years old. It's actually my sons, but he let me use it. I'm up for more of a challenge with a crossbow. Too bad it's the last night. Ohio runs the crossbow safety coarse with the archery .
