  1. All I hear is dripping off the trees. Deer out feeding later before the colder weather sets in . Bedded down about 60 yards ahead of me. Seven in total by 7:35.
  2. This afternoon sit was under an umbrella. Had a few doe and believed to be a buck that had already shed it's antlers come into the hay field to feed on grass about 4:30. Had a slight limp but, appeared to be getting around just fine. He moved the doe around quite a bit before exiting.
  3. Have a bunch of Canadian robins fly in eating berries around me.
  4. We won't talk much about yesterday afternoon. Lawn clover trefoil mix continues to draw deer, even after a snow melt. I will be planting more acreage next year. Todays another day, quite excited taking the muzzleloader out; my firearm of choice. Now in hoping a chance to use it. Good luck to those bow and muzzleloader hunters.
  5. Only a couple mornings have had deer showing during the firearms season. Thanksgiving morning ,a shooter locked down on a doe at 300 yards. Out of range for me; the turkey didn't taste the same neither . Most of the time, I believed they moved early.. I bumped deer on the walk out yesterday morning(Saturday), then a young 8 pointer surfaced. Pass. This morning , no new deer tracks in the snow since last evening. Thought they could move later when the wind went down, but didn't happen. One more chance to try. Tomorrow, we go to a new firearm. Good luck to those going out.
  6. We have seen this before. Little or no blood for hundreds of yards. Non vital hit, they can go a long ways without bedding down. So many today give up so easily, on blood trails, especially with no antlers involved. It's great to see someone so in depth in recovery efforts. A lesson here, for all of us to learn by. That was a big doe. Do you think that was the triplets mother?
  7. Sun with a light southwest breeze turned into 15 minute heavy snow squall about 4:30 pm. yesterday. With no snow on the ground, it turned white in a hurry. Quit as fast as it started followed by doe and young ones checking the clover. They moved on to the grassy vegetation rather quickly. This morning, the same weather conditions at 4:45. Took a walk back at 7:15 with no fresh tracks. Deer have been moving early ever since the showers of Thanksgiving morning here
  8. Sun was out on the way out yesterday afternoon, no snow on the ground. Then we got an intense snow squall about 4:30. Two inches on the ground in 15 minutes. Stopped, deer piled in the clover. Barely ate any moved on to grasses area. I felt like a shooter was waiting in the rhalm. This tough weather conditions is where we harvest shooters. Didn't happen. More snow this am., maybe 4 inches on the level. Hope for some good hunting, this afternoon.
  9. If firearms owners would get out and vote, things might have been a little different in this state right now. It far easier for them to sit back and bitch about it
  10. That's the problem we've had with leaving them over night. Adding light to the subject ever so increases the odds., but risks finding half the deer sometimes. Hope you have successful outcome finding the gold.
  11. I seen 7 hens and 2 Toms Wednesday before Thanksgiving walked through the clover.
  12. Did the same thing Thanksgiving morning.. Shooter locked down on a doe. Dinner would have tasted so much better with success.
  13. Plain and simple; I enjoy hunting. Always been the outdoors type. Working on plans for an all terrain wheel chair, just in case.
  14. Promote the sport, and it will continue. Change it will, but it's up to we the hunters, to keep the tradition alive. My best bow season yet; no deer harvested but my grand children sure learned a lot. They read the basic hunting course on line. Then I was honored to give instruction in the field. Best part was, they didn't know the second part of the coarse was being taught. Hopefully, they will continue to learn, as I ; through out their hunting experiences.
  15. Friday afternoon sit. Wow, someone flipped a switch and it became winter. Few flurries is all, here. Wind is pounding in daylight. Drops off when sun sits.. Had deer in the clover, in bow range, 5 minutes after legal light., when the wind dropped off. Saturday morning, deer in cover before 6:20.
  16. Figure a damp drizzley day. Figure a big shooter shows at a distance The deals getting close, but just quite get the icing right.
  17. If the hunters, that are out there are not seeing deer, won't hear the shots. I know for a fact here, deer went more into cover, the last few days of crossbow. Another fact is more hunter oriented people are purchasing properties, land to hunt on, thus reducing the amount of vehicles on and along the roadways. Not as many hunters, maybe,; but the style of hunting has changed for sure.
  18. Hunting the open till 7; then entering the woods along a brushy area. Don't take long, deer surface. A lot of vegetation still on the willow yet. Now to be in the right spot at the right time
  19. Some were manufactured for trouble. Lifes easier not using them; and a whole lot cheaper too.
  20. Had this large flock of geese fly over few minutes ago.
  21. I noticed a growing trend in society, people refuse to take blame for their own actions. They will blame it on every other excuse, except the real one. Everybody screws up, accept it and take responsibility for what is done. Learn by ones mistakes.
  22. I guess it all depends how you view deer hunting from a personal aspect. I don't want it to get modernized to a point where the fun and excitement are diminished. Being in the midst of nature has been most of the fun for me. It has an awful lot to teach, willing to learn. Maybe as I age, the thrill of participation is more thrilling than to harvest of a deer. I'm sure we're throw one in, now and again thou.
  23. Some wanted snow. You got it. All liquid here, not even a flake.
