  1. Long history here, with the pre Golden Jubilee era. Made a good living off those tractors, not so many years ago. You might know the name, Owen, Yoder Brothers, long since gone. I still have a few N's on the place, just for old times sake. I will be rebuilding my grandfather's 1942, 2 N in the future,
  2. I have a loader for my front wheel assist farm tractor, that was bought new in 2004. I purchased it from out of my inventory. I usually leave it off, most of the year including winter. It's so dam awkward and ties the tractor up to much for other purposes I use the tractor for. It's also tougher on the front axle bearings running up and down the road, leaving the loader on.. I use a rear three point hitch back blade on a bank run gravel driveway for like 30 years now. it will dig in and grade some of the driveway into the lawn, when no frost or ice present, if not careful. Neighbors get that from pickups and four wheelies. The tractors are so much money today, it's really difficult to justify purchasing one; at least in my book it does. Someone mentioned a Ford 9N with a blade for clearing snow. They work for a few inches at a time. If you have ice under the tires, they hardly get out of their own way with the three point blade up. One tire spinning, hit the brake and the other tire will spin. Manufactures come a long way when differential lock was developed. Now with front wheel assist tractors, differential locks not used to much. One thing I always ran by my customers; the horse power you think you will need, move up to the next hp.class. You can never have to much, but to little does no good at all.
  3. I had a chance to sell the TYM brand back in 2004. I went with another brand, instead. Great South Korean tractor,
  4. You must be in that 100 inch zone I read about yesterday in New York. 1963, 1966, 1977 were all bad storms in our area. We had bad flooding in their aftermath.
  5. With all this cold weather and snow, Maple producers are hoping for a good, extended maple run season. Maybe. Temperature now need to get up in the 30S with below freezing nights.
  6. Old time beekeepers [ most were farmers) would erect a building where the hives would take the place of the outer walls, entrances facing out, with a roof over head. An isle way was down the center of the building, to interact with the hives. The idea was to have good air circulation around the hives a kind of wind break, with an extra roof over head to protect the hives. The sun would shine on the hive to awake the cluster, on warmer days. I remember seeing a couple of these small buildings, back in the 60's. None of which were being used at that time. I watched one being taken apart, to make way for a chicken coop. I was never told why this concept was stopped. It would seem like a pretty good idea. Might have something to do with bees being transported around more in modern times?
  7. A colder winter can actually be more benifital than a warmer one, provided a nice sunny day with temps about 30 or better is thrown in the mix, now and again. Activity is not as great with colder temps, which makes food reserves last longer. A sunny day give the bees a chance to fly out to remove waste from their systems. Mine were out the last sunny day doing their duty. They also were cleaning house of the bees that died inside. Have they moved up into the upper chamber yet?
  8. I know last winter really spoiled me with it being so mild.
  9. No. This would take the fun and enjoyment out of deer hunting for me anyways. I found through the years, and as I grow older, to enjoy the finer thing, that nature has to teach.
  10. Look at the guest visits. Thirteen pages (30 guest per page) on a Sunday morning listed. Checking back on old threads and posts. Yes some are spammers and hackers, but I bet you their are a lot of old members visiting the site without logging in. That's nothing to shake a stick at. Yes a few old members came back to make a comment on this thread. What I read was bitterness, anger and reality. Carries a long ways sometimes. We've done excellent here for years; with an owner that just may be one of those visitors, from time to time.
  11. The stalls full and they just keep shoveling it.
  12. I believe quite a few are still carrying. I did see three that had dropped back in late season though. Shed hunting will start for me, when this cold weather breaks, and the January thaw comes, when ever. Can't wait.
  13. Yeah, seems like old times, doesn't it, LOL.
  14. No bitterness, no hard feelings for me; just a great bunch of people to communicate with on this site about the same subject matter related to my interest. This is why I stay. It's really, that simple. I hear there's some great hunting in Siberia.
  15. Voted other because I mostly use homemade ground blinds and a secure homemade built tree stand with roof, for those not so favorable days. I also use a portable umbrella, on occasion for quick pop ups, which works really well.
  16. It takes me be back to Native American times. Develop a skill level way beyond any other weapon out there. Challenges and goals to set a sense of accomplishment like no other. Archery season is far more enjoyable, for me than firearm.
  17. Needed moisture for the soils up your way.
  18. Seen a sizeable flock walking a field that a farmer spread manure on Wednesday in northern Erie County . Favored wintering area. Their had to be 50. Some nice Toms in the mix.
  19. Not much detail. Look at the writers background.. A filler story until something comes in the arts, food, and entertainment subject matter.
  20. Quite an in depth article on this on another Hunting site. A high fence hunting establishment in Peru Indiana. Owner brought up on charges, went to court, and got lowered on a plea deal. One testified he paid 15 grand to shoot a very sick buck in a pen, then film a normal hunting adventure and add the buck to the outcome of the video.
  21. Never seen the video of his canned hunt. I did see one of his catch and release turkey hunting video. He would call the turkey in, then say bang.
  22. I watched an eagle eating in a field, a road kill deer carcass last Friday in the sunshine. I see eagles more than red tail hawks now.
  23. Lake Erie ice looks a little unstable from that high winds Monday.
