  1. I think luberhill was open up on the neck area. I remember they posting a cam pic later in deer season, where it still looked pretty bad
  2. So, this Invision and Purging stuff. Is their like flaws that come into the site, that can't be repaired?
  3. Maybe some technical difficulties.
  4. As far as the antlers go. I don't know a single soul that doesn't like big antlers. Big bucks yield a lot of meat. Their less work to process, hardly no fat. Doe have their place, but they don't get near the recenition the antlers do, hanging on the wall.
  5. That's take off the rose colored glasses. How the hell is anyone going to recruit new hunters, in such a hostile hunting state?
  6. Not this particular buck. He came out, walked up to the camera, smelled the strap, walked behind it to the next scrape. He was on a mission though. Nice 5 1/2 year old.
  7. I think the threads fine if they keep it clean. Nothing wrong with a good discussion to clarify points.
  8. Man has hunted for thousands of years. The driving source runs deep in the veins. It just comes naturally.
  9. My parents were actively involved in 4H in the 70s where one of my projects was to raise pheasants from chicks. Quite a long time ago, but they would be released along with a ECO. on the farm 15 to 20 weeks old, as I recall. Made for some really challenging pheasant hunting. We also took the Red Bone and Black and Tan Raccoon dogs out to do some fantastic late night hunting. The family squirrel, rabbit, and woodcock hunt on our farm as well as the neighbors. In those days, we all knew each other in the neighborhood. We all hunting on each other's property. Not like it is today with all the land being bought up, divided and you stay off my property attitude. I didn't know it then, but it had a big influence on what I would be doing, the rest of my life. It was a great start in life growing up. I would never want to ever trade it.
  10. That 175 6/8 gross, I would think. After dry down period, would be nice to see gross- net score. Will have to buy a NYBBC book from Antlers Outdoors.
  11. It just depends on personal taste. Remember that everyone's input is just that. Now I'll give you mine,LOL. I don't like the yellow looking varnish on the natural wood. I like the wood to stand out with no gloss look to it. I would never ever paint that wood, unless you like the look of horizonal painted Wayne's coating. Painting that wood would be a sin. Don't do it! Change the trim appearance.
  12. To harvest a big buck like this one is the greatest experience ever, to a deer hunter. To get two chances is unheard of.
  13. This always reminds me of a Native American trail marker. Similar.
  14. I bought a box of odd and ends on an auction some 30 years ago. It has 2 Diamond stones in it that I still use to this day. Always wanted to make a jig for them to get the right degree edge on the knife. Best 5 bucks I ever spent. My sandstone wheel does a nice sharp edge also.I use that for my draw knives and block planes.
  15. A hunter entered a woods and noticed a rather large fresh deer track. He decided to follow it in hopes he might run into the large beast. Quite a ways in the track suddenly turned into a human print. Stunned and confused, he stood looking forward trying to see into the darker woods. As his eyes grew more use to the conditions, he sees a human figure in a big bright orange coat. He continue forward; upon getting close enough, he sees it's his wife. He asks how in the world, what in the world are you doing out here? She replies," Well ever since deer hunting season started, I had to come up with a way to find out what you wanted for super."
  16. Oats have to be crimped for an animals digestion system to benefit. I read this in the comments that their using them. The owners sometimes remark in the comments section. Must be quite a financial responsibility to under take. Nice that their state allows it.
  17. Good luck to you, First-light. My father was an excellent trapper for many years. He always said knowing the animals traits and habits your trapping leads to a successful outcome. I still have several of his poles, traps and stretching boards.
  18. Quite a few blue jays at the feeder this morning. The camera lens looks like a deer licked it.
  19. Politicians are representives of the people. Not representative s for themselves. They are suppose to act on fact, not emotion. What is truly best for the people. What they determine the majority of their voters " think" would have a successful outcome for the non voter. What gets me, fact; population is declining in New York. Then politicians look at each other dumbfounded and ask the question why.
  20. Are the prices for out of state ammo that much lower, that it is worth a drive for 55 cent a mile to purchase? Or is it the fact that people don't want New York officials to know what weapons they own? Firearms dealers are already struggling to stay in business, with this state tightening the noose around their necks. I don't see the reason why consumers would want to tug a little harder.
  21. I enjoy hunting to be out in nature. Enjoying what you do is what counts in life. Right?
