  1. I recently gave some in 12ga to the guy at the gun counter at DSG. I didn't have a use for them and you'd think I gave him solid gold. He said that the company moved to only manufacturing tactical / home defense loads.
  2. My buddy shoots one as his primary deer gun nd loves it. I've shot it a few times and really liked how it handles. For the optic, take a look at the Bushnell Banner II... great reviews for a sub $100 scope.
  3. Chances are someone on this site will be interested. If it's someone that you know, or know through association, I'd sell it and move on and not give it another thought. What do you have in the 150gr?
  4. They're tough animals. Looks like he may have taken a shot in the ham at some point.
  5. @dbHunterNY just remembered about this. Are you still selling tix?
  6. I didn't mean for that to come off as being critical of the poster.. more of a casual observation.
  7. It would be nice if she included what she was asking for it..
  8. Looks great! what's the box to the left side on the table?
  9. I couldn't pass it up. The stock scope that came with it was junk and wouldn't hold a zero, so they replaced it with a Nikon that they were trying to clear out. It was a hell of a deal. If I remember right, retail for that setup would've been around $700, and I think all in I paid somewhere around $180. I know that's not typical and amounts to me being in the right place at the right time to jump on a deal. That's 1 of 2 guns I've bought there where I basically robbed them. The other was recently when I picked up a Howa 1500 "Randy Newberg" limited edition in 6.5 Cr. That retails for $1100ish and I grabbed it for around $400.
  10. You mean you don't want to call in a hungry bear when you're covered in dead deer smells? Odd... to each their own I guess..
  11. Nitrofire is interesting, but loads seem limited and pricey. I picked up a traditions vortek ultralight a few years back. It came with a Nikon scope. The combo was under $200 new from DSG. shoots well, handles well, and is easy to clean. A tool free breach plug makes cleaning a breeze.
  12. This is a pretty good video that basically shows what I do when I don't want to drag the whole thing out. Takes me under an hour in the field. https://youtu.be/LBbdCBO3ADM
  13. X2 I'll open it in the field from the top of the back and bone it out from the top down. I won't even cut into the gut cavity. Not worth the mess for the sake of 2 potentially tainted loins.
  14. I have a Carbon Express X Force Advantax that I picked up a few years back. It may not be the fastest rig on the market, but it's plenty fast and stupid accurate. I can't target shoot more than one bolt at a time because I'll ruin them. When I initially got it, there was an issue with burring along the top of the rail. It caused the string to pop on my second shot. The company was great about fixing the issue, and sent me a dozen bolts with lighted nocks for my trouble. I use those with NAP 2 blade mechanicals.
  15. Catching up after the weekend. Congrats to @Chef and @crappyice and anyone else who connected! I took my son and the dog out to look for pheasants Saturday morning. Nice morning for a walk, but no birds. In the area that we walked (Hogan's Point section of Braddock's Bay) I only heard a few shots. Surprisingly low compared to past years for the pheasant opener. We saw 5 or 6 other groups working, some with dogs. Did his birthday party Saturday afternoon. Then looked at a camper upgrade Sunday morning. If the numbers work, I'd like to seal the deal on that before the end of the week. Sunday evening I was up in a tree in a local suburban spot. It was warm enough that I was wearing shorts! Saw 2 doe around 5:30. It was quiet otherwise, and no wind to speak of. I decided to get aggressive. This isn't my normal spot and I wasn't really concerned if they blew out. To be honest, part of me was thinking about yard work (may be one of the last nice days before the weather turns to crap), the BILLS game, and how much room I have in the freezer. Ultimately, those 2 doe were moving through thick stuff about 60 yards out and working their way toward a field. I climbed down, and slowly stalked toward them. I managed to get within 15 yards, but they were on the other side of some thick stuff and never stepped into an opening. Eventually they moved off, and I was home to catch the end of the game. Overall not a bad weekend!
  16. Looks like a coyote grabbed him right in the ass and tore a chunk of hide off.
  17. Getting back to ammo being locked up.. Wally World in Brockport yesterday had a decent amount in stock, although the calibers were limited. Only one option in 30-06, plenty of variety in .308, some options in .350, and a few others. Plenty of it, no limits posted, and all behind a glass case. Come to think of it though, with the exception of bird shot, you've always had to work with an associate at WalMart. Rifle and shotgun (slugs/sabots) were always behind the counter. So the only change here is that now they're behind the glass door.
  18. Very much appreciated. I have enough tucked away in hunting calibers to outlast my lifetime. Was keeping and eye out for a friend. He has some, thought not much. He tends to use his muzzy during rifle season, so even for him, it's not a pressing need. I've seen plenty of 30-06 options over the past 6 months, but only a single box of the one he's looking for. So when I'm out and about, I just keep an eye out for him.
  19. I bought this a few years back on Amazon. I've never had any issues with it when I use it with my climber. It's generic, but it works. I just checked and for roughly $20 you could have one before the weekend.
  20. Hey now, I'm a lefty! I play hockey, golf, and swing a bat as a righty, but I write and throw with my left. Don't lump me in with the other kind!
  21. I took my son with me on scouting runs and trail cam / stand maintenance trips starting around 4. He's been along for squirrel hunts and bunny hunts a few times. He's 8 now. This summer we went "hunting" a few times. Really we were scouting from a blind. I was teaching him to be still and quiet, etc. I brought him out with me back during the early antlerless season and he was pumped! Keep them warm, fed, and with something to do, and they'll have a blast. Like others have said, shooting something becomes secondary.
  22. Come to think of it, I think I knew that. When SAFE first took effect I tried a handful of sites to see if any still shipped, and I think Midway was, like most, unwilling to ship to NY.
  23. Just tried an ammo order through MidwayUSA.. failed..
