  1. You would know at 11 he would be 5ft 10 and about 160. My.cousins boy was a top highschool qb set all kind of records had own u tube channel, gave up football for baseball as he was only 5ft 10. And had no chance at nfl, took his baseball scholarship and is doing well. His little brother is now qb of varsity team as a sophomore but will have same issues.. Bonus is if he gives it up he can hunt otherwise your and his time afield will be minimal, coaches are crazy with practices and game on weekends .. if not extra practices.. baseball well he may miss turkey but can go before practice and school..
  2. Unless he stands a chance for a scholarship hang it up. If a true possibility then a very good helmet may be the answer.. injuries come back to haunt you. Had I a chance to do it all over again I would not play football in school.
  3. I'd keep any browning I won..
  4. Ir photo really suck this time of year, as winter coats and summer coats are changing they look all patchy as it reflects the ir differently.. I hope it is for you but I have many photos that look similar and it's simply the hair growing in for winter.
  5. All seem.to be shedding out this week..1st flying squirrel I've gotten on cam must of about landed on it
  6. Funny they say it wont be touched till a frost..the 1st year yes.. after that mine are stalks for season
  7. That's my friend tj. Use to take opening week off tags would be full by 718am. After a few years of that he decided to wait for an older age class buck , that way he can hunt longer.
  8. I do that now no money just friends you think after 20 years they could find their own stands
  9. It's only a spot till 10 am after that you wont see a deer..
  10. Good land , doesn't just exist it can be created. I would put that in prep category, I do not think the game taken off my place would be the same without constant habitat manipulation. As for luck it strikes 1x if you then think about what happened and why you can find the pattern and use it again and again.. for example a neighbor use to get out of work at 4pm, would then change and race not really fast but drive up)up the hill on his ATV, to get to his hunting spot .pushing a herd of deer over the top and they would run down and hit natural saddle where I had just hung a stand for bow hunting. It became like clockwork 430 herd of deer runs over the hill and stops under stand. The 1st time it happens was luck, realizing what happened and why led to over 55 deer shot out of that stand. When he retired it stopped but it was a good run while it lasted....
  11. Wow never more than 4 in same day.. that's crazy, there are opening days I'd see 30 plus buck and close to 70 doe...
  12. I have cargo pants and a good bowhunters jacket. Lots of pockets.
  13. Most crossbows prefer a heavier foc weight a 350 grain shaft with a 100 grain insert and a 100 grain head would work well. Main thing is to get bolts that are spines correctly for the draw weight of your x bow, I think the 370 is 180 or so draw weight. A lighted neck is a very good idea as they are faster than a bow and it makes it easier to find the bolt. There are many manufactures that make bolts all are pretty respectable. So. Brand name is up to you same as broad head just make sure it is rated for crossbow ..as many compound heads use less resistance to open at lower speeds and just the initial release of bolt may cause them to. Open, I have used both rage x bow or nap crossbow mechanical heads. I have settled on the rage partly because I'm cheap and I can. Usually find them in clearance after the season for 25 a 3pak vs the 49 normal.price.
  14. I actually.got 10.free hazelnuts from the arbor association as part of their project. For a couple of years. They were givi ngf them.out for free when you joined.. I Just stuck them in forest openings in the sun in early spring and in 3 years they were reproducing, they spread by nuts or roots and I have several.clusters that are 10 ft tall and 8 ft around. I have read you can mark and cut off the new sprouts with a shovel and transplant in fall to eatablish in other areas, some thing I plan on trying after they go dormant this year.
  15. Oh he smelled.me stomped his food looked at me came closer stomped his foot.. and turned broadside and started eating apples with his head behind a tree. The thing is a deer will alert if you activate one of it senses. But it wont flee unless another sense is activated, such as smell and see, hear and see, smell and hear.. as fred bear said just dont move.. just doing that eliminates 2 of its senses hearing and seeing.. smelling you it may come closer to find you with another sense to confirm what it smells .
  16. My land lays east -west, wind from west (north or south) you walk out the door of house on west end of the property and your scent is blowing into the woods. Add 6 to 8 more guys and that scent is spread over the entire area. Imo not the one most important thing.. the single most important thing is to get out and hunt period.. wind, food, funnels, all are secondary.
  17. Not true I kill. An 11pt dead down wind from me 2 years ago I smelt so bad I could smell myself ,was 70. Degrees that morning and I only went to stand to fix search but friend said take your bow with you. After going up and down the tree several times dropping rivets clanging off steps I them rotated the stand 90 degrees as well as moved the tree umbrella. 5 min later he came in dead down wind to 7 yards or so and I shot him for easiest shot I've ever had on a buck, my scent wasnt blowing over it as I had gone up and down the tree several times.. The most important thing is simply this.... get out and hunt!!!!
  18. It's all about where you hit them aim. To far forward and you will hit opposite leg or shoulder, through the ribcage only and you can go through every time with 35lb bow. I use to aim to far forward learned quickly where to actually aim made a huge difference with recovery
  19. Nice choice for your dad, definitely replace bolts, Easton makes good bolts and as for broadhead, I have had good luck with rage crossbow heads, fixed are good but many xbow do not have an opening that allows a larger fixed head ,as well as problems with larger heads floating at high speeds. I'd stick to a crossbow rated head. Montec makes a good fixed but again diameter is smaller 7/8 of an inch.
