Rabid raccoon bites youth turkey hunter
G-Man replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Prime example of letting wild animal just get to close..its not cool, it wont ruin your hunt , if something is getting that close to you you can be in danger period!! Scare it... kill it if it doesnt react like a wild animal should.. -
Quaker boy has opened new shop in springville

I've only used big and beasty as I won it at a banquet grew well was ok . I am more impressed with whitetail institutes winter greens

Yes, I have a strange characteristic of a double neck whisker on a lot of my bucks here and stocking feet .there are different degrees of piebald but I think the big patches are just the loss of winter hair in your photos though larger patches around eyes my be a common variation in your area..

Decided to make a new kill plot for my oldest hunter at his stand. This will be planted into whitetail institute bow stand this summer. Ut will be my.1st time trying this product said it's good for partial shade and includes a ph booster as well. the apple at back of plot is 40 yards from the stand with lay out looking north west. This is the other side of the same stand plot has been here for few years it had a low spot that flooded in heavy rain. So I dug into a topsoil pile left from removing topsoil off logging road 20 years ago and filled it in. This will also be a kill plot with big and beasty this summer Unfortunately I have to let them both dry out to level and then spray to kill out weeds and competing forbes. But have lots of time as both will be late summer plantings. There is a camera to right in this photo on one of.my American chestnuts. The area is thick with apples and I did a large girdling of maple and pine and poplar to release them form the growing competition. I'll try and get some photos of that as well but rain forced me inside at this time. Description of bowstand

Dont think they are piebald just in heavy shed.. the long winter hair is sluffing off in patches.

Hard to tell from photos, either trunk rot or sun scald. Trunk rot is from fungus letting grass and moisture get to high not.much you can do about it just prevention, grafting if small and not.advanced enough Sun scald is usually on south facing side as tree warm in spring / late winter sun the bark warms in sun and swells with water then it gets cold and freezes the trunk cells pop causing damage to bark.

Way to many bugs snakes and alligators in Florida for me let alone hurricanes and oppressive heat.. nice place to visit would never move there. We may have ticks I guess but termites cockroaches and several poisonous spiders..far out weigh the danger from ticks here....I've seen more black widows around a single light fixture in floridia then I've seen in 48 years in ny..

Nope hes at a different one.

110 conibear.live trap, 1 leghold leaf spring trap, rat poison.. .22 bird shot. .22 CBcaps .. I hate red squirrels got 153 out of yard one year then cut down all the pines to keep them away..
-
I'd thicken it up. Make a small kill plot , hinge cut a few of the maples.. but I'm an aggressive habitat manger. I'd prolly redo about half the property I'm sure.. you kill more deer hearing them then seeing especially with bow..
-
Personally I'd do a bunch of habitat work around that stand. If your friend has enough property a land owner tag is possible. As for black powder or crossbow both are very affordable used and sometimes new lot of time before season

I fence fruit trees when planted , treetubes can lead to borers in fruit trees. 2x4 welded fence 5ft tall in 1ft diam hoops to protect trunk no need for 5 ft hoops to protect limbs. I don't worry about deer eating limbs that are thru the fence as I want all my limbs over 5 ft off ground anyway when mature. So they do a little pruning g for me is all. By killing all existing vegetation and planting wi clover I geta good 3 to 5 year as a food plot bonus as trees continue to mature though I but 7/8 in diameter stock trees 5 to 6 ft tall bare root.that could produce 1st year I plant I spray to knock off fruit 1st 2 years to force root and limb growth. Have to use weed mat or clean out grass at bottom of tree early fall to prevent vole and mouse girdling. I have had bear pull a 4in diameter apple down to get apples on the top of tree I was able to pull it back up straight and staked it.. it recovered minus a few snapped limbs.

This is 3rd orchard I've started. I have existing orchards one is 20 acres but it is about 1.5 miles from this spot. I have 2 new plots to clear as well but both are only 1/4 acre kill plots. This is big project for plots this year..biggest project will be dozer work end of may. I have several miles of logging road to regrade and put in water bars and turn outs.. I do enjoy the plotting and placing of stands much more than actual hunting.trail cameras captures and It makes me happy when someone gets a good one out of a stand I hung and prepped..

There is a stand if you zoom photo 2nd white pine from right with existing apple.between the two pines..and at my back. Taking photos is existing pear tree.
