  1. Hens are nesting now in those fields.. .. I'd worry about losing a nest more than getting a bird... just find a plowed and planted field
  2. A couple of bear photos same spot 2 different bear.. apple tree is one they pulled over a few years ago and I pulled upright and staked..a few buck doing well with growth so far..
  3. Got the ground plowed, maybe disc this afternoon
  4. All of allegany county is productive. Some days have more pressure than others ..this year opening week is week before Thanksgiving so both 2 weekends should have a lot of pressure. But because opening week is not Thanksgiving the rest of opening week will be quiet as many take 1 or 2 days to take the full week of Thanksgiving off
  5. It will but there is no way to grandfather in so they best be looking to take bow course. This is in fact the only legislation I believe will pass. Imo it should be bow required as aiming and tracking during bow is much different during gun.
  6. It is still a challange, I do not find drawing my bow a challange its 52lbs, has 80% let off and I have not been busted drawing ever in 30 years of bow hunting. Moving into position for a shot yes. Drawing no.. same as you state above it's not as easy or hard in this case as some make it out to be. Every piece of equipment has it's own challenges. That in fact is the truth of it. As for full inclusion of crossbow and required bow course for it with the course required I'm all for it .. without course I'd leave it alone.. jmo
  7. It's a different shaped tooth have gone thru about 30 trees with it so far . They way it clamps on and grinds the tooth its effective. I dont know longevity of chain yet though I have bought 2. One extra. No need to swap out a full chain just clamp on run 15 to 30 seconds and sharp..
  8. I have mono pod works in a permanent stand, not in hang on style.
  9. My stand has elevated seat ,no rail and I do not sit shooting nor could i have my knee bent to rest stock on it like Turkey hunting. To have it resting on bipod would.limit how i could move and swing to get in position for shot.. fine in a blind , cant see it in a hang on. Your stands must have large solid or mesh floor.. mine are slatted and only 24x 32 .
  10. It was classified as a muzzleloader because you need to use a weapon for I believe 3 or 5 years before you can be an instructor for it.. no one could of taught it as it wasnt legal. By listing as muzzleloader it was able to be used. The progression to using and listing it as a archery equipment is simply the next step in making full inclusion possible and archery course required. As for scope and trigger you can put scope on bow and any release your using is a trigger....
  11. Maybe it's because I'm short but rails on stands would not allow me do draw and aim my bow with out hitting them. I draw aim and shoot in identical fashion to a long bow or recurve. I dont think that holding at draw is logical or necessary. I set my stands for 1/4 away shots ( this means deer comes from behind me and I draw in its blind spot. No need for it to go behind tree or waiting for it to step out.
  12. I use hang ons there is no rail. Platform is small and slotted keeping bi pod or monochrome pod foot on slot is pretty hard 1in wide . I have stands in multiple trunk trees you can use vertical bow in but crossbow limbs will hit trees either side. Not everyone uses a ladder.. and they would not work in most trees I hunt out of. Multiple limbs would be in way. And I still dont uunder how when holding the crossbow up your resting butt on your leg , I'm not a contortionist.
  13. Sight in at 20 yards.its a slug hole. Go back to 40 on a 20 in circle double check center of pattern.. same gun and load for 26 years. Early.season #4 Winchester xx, 3.5 in later season #5 or #6 xx 3.5 in
  14. You would have to hold a front heavy almost 7 lbs steady.. it's not as easy as you think . My bow is 3.4 lbs.. I'd rather draw again than have to hold 7lbs ( or more ) steady for any length of time. Especially in a tree stand.. blinds are nice but not practical in many areas I hunt.. or go in a tree with a shooting stick..more stuff to drop or make noise with...
  15. Yes today's bows are 65% or more 80% let off.. I grew up with out that luxury.. most guys I know who shot 65 lbs plus back then have all gone under the knife for shoulders.. today's bow is not like the ones 30 years ago....
  16. I'm surprised how many people want to hold a bow back for length of time. So bad for shoulders and back.... .perhaps it's because I grew up in a time of recurve and crappy compounds.. I draw aim release takes less than a few seconds.. I think I've let down a few times in my life but learning when to draw was about the most challenging thing in archery for me. Now I have a system down it's a non issue, though I hear the argument well you have to draw a bow.. well you have to pick up and position an unwieldy crossbow as well.. same problems.
  17. I bough tthe new bar and chain from oregon..powersharp the only way I use my chainsaw now..have to buy new bar for 2 other saws but so efficient and it cuts wood like butter
  18. The one I shot was so unexpected I didnt realize it was a deer at first till it raised it head and had antlers!! I really believed it was a dog as 3 doe busted across field at dead run and 15 min later it came.out head down following them..
  19. I have one on cam.up.about 4in already , many are 1in or so..
  20. Yes wait till you kill a 2nd time and let dry.down then remove.. if you can let.stand for week or two after.removal the minimal soil disturbance should make any more weed seeds may germ you can then spray again and plant after spray is dry. Same day.. best way I know for small seed on new ground. After.planting driving over. Slow with ATV tires or lawn roller to press seed in for good contact . Then pray for light rain and dewy mornings .
  21. Still waiting on parts for.disc..hope by next week..well bearings came.in and it's ready if it ever stops.raining!!!
  22. I'd just spray, wait spray again, and then either burn or remove surface trash with York rake. Your choice of plants does not require more effort .. No reason to turn until roots rot away 3 or 4 years down road. The only ground I turn is for corn and that is more to incorporate a cover crop into the soil for green manure. Constant planting of same crop takes a lot of nutrients out of the soil. So I rotate my corn after clover or wheat/ oats. Chopping and plowing stalks under for next crop.
  23. shorter has to do with draw length. Nock are not a defining as a slot, half.moon ,flat , v are.all.used and have been used across te globe by indigenous people
