  1. It will not pass as I dont believe there is even a bill presented for it yet this year
  2. He hasnt told me if he got letter back, but my guess is just a 2 year old it dressed at 165.. maybe a 3 year old by their graph.. but I would bet on 2
  3. I dont think baiting for bear is big in NY. It's really a matter of deer hunters seeing and shooting them. All 3 here were shot by deer hunting, and the others that have been seen are while deer hunting
  4. My nephew killed only bear in my town and was one of 11 killed in youth season across state.. I do not think he realizes what he actually accomplished.. the officer that collected tooth was impressed it was 3rd bear in 6 years out of same spot (50 yards or so)
  5. I dont think you need to be much above a one as a caller push a pin and get a Yelp, heck just scratch leaves ..if your woodmanship is high knowing why a turkey will be someplace and how to set up so they are comfortable going to you is much more important . Any bird that answers you is happy with your calling a great caller is not going to get a bird to come where it isnt comfortable. setting up so it will come look for you where its comfortable is the hard part.
  6. Heck they shoot polar bears with .223 and kill them, at range with no pressure any round will kill put in right spot
  7. Luring poor doggie to its death by ambush.. reminds me of a scene in a movie where the tour guide points out a warthog laying with two lions and how they are caring for it ,/ look of horror on peoples faces/ cut back to 2 lions licking their chops and no warthog.. guide says oops guess I misread that.....
  8. Just take a hot dog with you and it's a cooking fire not effected by ban..
  9. Robin's dont fly south they just move into conifers/thick areas .. My sure sign of spring is the return of the turkey vultures.
  10. Burn it. You will not have a problem. They need a ban for people that have no idea that woods are dry in spring after snow melt..
  11. I dont rate myself, the birds seem to like me though.. that's all that matters.. nor do I care how I look in camo before I leave the house at 5am....
  12. I stay next to rock hall every week. Some good brewers there..and walk up to winking lizard for some good bbq and draft
  13. Frozen is ok you want a freeze /thaw to set the seed. If your just planting clover for green manure for a fall pot just plant red clover. If you plant later throw oats in it in april will give you summer feed and good compost for a later summer turn down and fall plot
  14. Had this pop back up on my time line.. still one of my favorite Turkey photos..and yes it was a cuddieback( back when they made good cameras)this is my front yard not 30 yards from my door and 10 yards in front of my car....lol
  15. Have you thought on this ..every deer you pass on that didnt get a pass in previous years (cause we all wait for the big one now) if it picks up you at all sight, smell, feel or whatever the 6th sense is. You educate ... sitting in a stand all day when wind changes , temps and thermals change you educate more deer you let walk by every hour you are out there..... People laugh when the find out I hunt very few hours, no all day sits or sits over 3 hours most of the time ,i get my deer ..but I am not educating the other deer either ...
  16. In good soil chestnuts will and can grow up to 5 ft a year. They were considered weed trees because of this. I m personally not a fan of tree tubes. I prefer a weed mat with 2x4 welded wire mesh 4 to 5 ft tall in a 1 ft hoop. Tubes cause a tree to grow fast and fairly weak. And can be blown over and allow bug infestations into bark. As it usually .moist and hot in a tube. Many trees do not do well in a tube apples will get borers if kept in tube. Also bluebird and swallows can fly into them and make nests or get stuck and die..
  17. As to grampys original not seeing deer but seeing tracks, thermal cover becomes vital in snow and cold if you dont have it on your property close by ,deer will still come to feed but do so at night to conserve energy and heat. Its makes sence to move at night to get warm and use muscle movements to keep warm. And lay all day sunning and staying in thermal cover and not move. It is a common thing missing on a lot of properties and it makes deer dissappear when cold as they will relocate miles to good thermal cover..add a food supply next to it and the deer may not be seen in your woods again till spring...
  18. Most behavior is learned though they may need a reminder like time of year, ext. An example. A permanent stand provided deer for many seasons though sightings eventually slowed and stopped over a period of years. The tracks and trails were still passing by the stand but never. Appeared in daylight. A portable stand set up 30 yards away looking back at permanent stand for filming provided the answer. Deer were stopping just peaking over the hill at the permanent stand to see if it was occupied if it was they rerouted, next day left permanent stand un occupied and sat in new portable and entire herd stops to check perm stand seeing it safe they proceeded right by old stand in range of new stand.. being able to see is not conducive to good hunting if you can see 100 yards deer can prolly see and detect changes or movements at 200... relearned how and where to hang stands for maximum concealment.
  19. I'm still trying to figure out how to charge the state for feeding all of their deer that then charge me to shoot on my on property which they also tax me on just for owning......
  20. Sure it's a muzzleloader. Less chance of chain fire than normal bk revolver
  21. The do it in Cornell area ..took a bit but now it's the norm
  22. Nope my biggest pet peeve is why no one offers steak dinners on friday and everyone pushes fish.. the smell alone makes me sick from fish fries...
  23. Women / girls are very self competitive, have an ex gf I tought to shoot a .22 she wanted bullet hole inside of bullet hole I thought her quarter size group at 50 yards was fine. She kept trying .I had to explain the gun she was using was not bedded, nor were we shooting match ammo and ever bullet was slightly different .. she eventually went out and bought a bench gun and match ammo and joined a shooting club... crazy.
  24. If you all want to hunt these great areas simple write a letter to the town officials and state they could charge a fee to applicants to hunt with bow in these areas , non refundable and then have a lottery to see who hunts. Make lots of money.. politicians would love it.as $$$ is what they need and care about.
