  1. i just find photos amusing .. ive had cameras since late 80s. you get to see things you never would. i kind of think as photos the same as spotlighting you get to see deer but you never see them in daylight..but at least with camera you have proof it exists
  2. finished last two turnip plots today.. and corn is loving the rain
  3. got rain almost every day for last week. just disked up last turnip field was still pretty dry.. now i just need to get it planted between the raindrops
  4. i look at all the bucks i get on cam and pick the top 5 for my targets.. i dont worry about score just the best the property shows that year. if thays the best buck you have around then that should be your top target..jmo
  5. these guys were doing stuff they are coming out with today .many went on to bigger companys.. gene biddlespacher became head of video for realtree.. barry wensel is very well known you should check them out. there are many more by their group whitetail visions but most are vhs only.. another good few by them are highnoon bucks and shooting running deer. the also have a great video that teaches you to judge black bear called master of the black bear..id love to find them all on dvd..but i doubt that will ever happen
  6. more important is getting a few days overcast after it rains to let it soak in and be absorbed rather than burnt off in 90 degree heat
  7. find a dvd called bowhunting october whitetails 1 and 2 will teach you more than 10 years of trial and error. yes its bow but same principals apply to gun. i apolgise in advance for the cheesy 80s music in it. was made when teaching was more important than the look at me buy the stuff that sponsers me that is all arpund today.. amazon or netflix may have them
  8. the coloration of leaves will be present in all plants and is very evident on brassica. its a helpful chart when wondering what is wrong with your plot.
  9. i use to live 7.miles from work took 30 min fighting traffic. now im 80 and it take 1.5 hours but i have almost 300 acres and life is good..
  10. so youll pay a good $ for a close lease but could pay way less for more land and get a hotel room for many nights for less than the big $ lease close to home.. idk i drive 1.5 hours to work one way and 3 hr the other.. the right property and you shoulnt need to hunt it more than a few times to fill tag for.meat and if you just want to tag out.. i think its worth the drive.
  11. you just need to tag out in a day or two to cut expenses
  12. phosperous and potassium are more important than nitrogen for bulb production. nitrogen is good for leaves. my big concern isnt really hunting over the plot but providing enough food through the winter for survival. bulbs do that as well as acres of standing corn i leave. the leaves are early season casualties by me
  13. i agree but larger bulbs are left for late season. a small turnip plot by me will be wiped out by mid oct. even with apples ect around . they left them alone 1st year then they start eating the tops in sept now. a late palnting for late season here wpuld be a fail..early seems the bulbs to last and be the late season draw for muzzleloader.. every place is different for populations and food sources..this year all the farms by me are in cereal grain and will be picked early normally it would all becorn usually leaving it stand till muzzleloader messing up season fo me...lol
  14. 200 250 now to 300 350 come fall if food is plentiful. 3 year old i would guess
  15. see them from mine every.morning..
  16. best pizza i ever had was from uncle sammys on william and transit.. now i think its a rite aid store.. owner use to slice the toppings on right in front of you and ask if it was enough or not.. was pricy but beat any pizza from any of the top buffalo places imo. i miss that place.. of course transit was 2 lanes back then as well. havent had as good a pizza anywhere since..
  17. the 1st year i planted turnips was july 1st. they were awesome. bulbs made it to size of volley balls deer chewed away at them all winter. following year i planed august and deer pulled the whole damn plant out and field was empty by end if october. i now plant midjuly when rain is called for. seems a happy medium.
  18. im amazed at how people wont drive an hour or so to get to available land. higher speed on rural roads is the same as as time spent on surburban street fighting traffic and stop lights signs.. drive and hour or hour and a half you cannfind all kinds of land.
  19. cut down a hawthorn tree and drag it will work amazing just watch out for them spikes..they hurt
  20. usually its dry in and hour and will work.
  21. i never worry about buck photos right now. their needs are different than the does. but they always show up late august sept when horn are hardening and their needs change. my neighbor has the opposite problem he get tons of buck photo in july early august then they dissappear.. he is the one with the problem imo. never seen someone so dissapointed everyyear when they dissapear
