    Opossum

that is one animal i hate with a passion..
  2. mouldboard plowing when done in conjuntion with crop.rotation is fine especially in our area..now doing hundreds of thousands of acres allowing moisture to leave and create a dustbowl. an acre or. 2 or plowing isnt going to disrupt the soil enough to worry about in a food plot setting
  3. pack wounds with mud. the blight is a fungus and something in the soil kills it.
  4. chestnuts prefer acidic soil. they do very well planted in old pine plantation. american chestnuts would sprout and grow so easially they were considered a weed tree by farmers( one of every 4 trees you see in the mid atlantic to northeast was a chestnut) i highly suggest fencing your trees with welded 2x4 x5ft welded fence. chestnust are prefered by about eveey animal and insect in the woods. i actually have had best success with fall planting as trees are bigger when they come potted. the fall rains and cooler temps.reduce the need to water much more than when you have a dry spring and drought for summer. best thing with chestnuts is they are frost proof and will.produce nuts every year as they flower in july. making an x in the nuts and roasting them or eating them raw after removing the silver skin will show you why and your tastebuds will be in for a treat. animals willl go out of the way to eat the nuts before anything else
  5. white oak are smaller and grow.slower than red but they are a good source and will replace trees under most circumstances https://shop.arborday.org/product.aspx?zpid=883 i recommend becoming a member and get 10 free trees as well ( their choice) you may want to consider hazelnut as well in sunny edges or forest.openings if your looking for diversity
  6. different bucks. brow angles and trash is different.
  7. got a good t storm last evening..looks like more on way for mon tuesday.. got 2 turnip fields in yesterday before rain. have 2.5 more acres to disc i hope before tuesday... so i can get them planted as well
  8. its usualy the last full weekend before may 1st. giving a week off before regular season. if the legislature votes we have a season next year...
  9. it will still blur on a full run animal but 99% are clear. uses 3 different ways to take pics a twilight, dark and full sun.
  10. yes they are frost proof and produce every year as they flower in july amd drop their nuts early october. i have many as well as pure american. i would still plant oak preferably white. diversity is a good thing in natures buffet
  11. ive gone theu the american arbor association for 3 to 4 ft trees they have done very well but thats larges ive bought
  12. bought four of the new browning strike force hd pro love them prolly but another 4 shortly .qould recommend them to anyone
  13. imo big motors are a waste. who cares if you can do 100mph where you gonna do that? yes they are to light and lose traction so all you do is burn rubber off the tires. 400 or 500cc is plenty big enough imo
  14. well with out an over running or shear on the brush hog you can twist the new one . again i know your not mak8ng trails as much as maintaining but i hope it holds up for you
  15. the only issue you would have doijg that is on uneven ground you will scalp..fortunatly where you are is flat like a pancake
  16. just make sure if you use any spreader for fertalizer to clean it very well as its very corrosive
  17. o bought a spreader for atv electric pro series by swisher from tsc on line ( they will deliver to stores but dont stock them 300.00 ) gerat for lareger seed and fert.. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/swisher-commercial-pro-atv-spreader?cm_vc=-10005 but will not do clover or brassicA as you do not have enough control as hand spreader gives you
  18. drive over it 1st or use a roller/ cullipacker. a lawn roller works well behind atv. even a pallet with weight on it..you want firm seed bed. you can also make a planker which ix 2x8 or larger overlapped by anout 1.5 in 3 to 4 deep insert eyehooks and put rope through so the little step edges face forward. will smooth and firm bed..can add cinder blocks to to or rocks for weight. if you use pressure treated will last for years with minimal investment. i only use a hand spreader for brassicas. put half the amount of seed recomented for plot in it on smallest setting and crank hard and walk fast and cover entire plot. put rest in and do same..over seeding brassica leads to most failure.
  19. make sure your soil is packed if tilling . brassica seed is small amd may end up to deep if soil is to fluffy
  20. yes im shooting for tuesday myself..then im just left with plowing for winter wheat..
  21. my turnip plots are prepped just waiting for rain in forcast to plant.
  22. ive planted them 1st of july turnips were softball size and larger. fertalize when planting preferably just before rain. a drag of surface before planting will loosen soil amd mimimize bringing weed seed to surface. a roller or driving your atv over the seed will pack seed for good soil contact.. if you plat to heavy a second application of fert may be nessary to keep it all growong on poor soils
  23. if its worked up now plant it now. dont fertalize ahead. your weeds will be way out of control.. your roots/ bulbs will just be bigger is all. brassicas are good that they grow fast and will out compete weed. but 2 weeks of weeds that are fert and then plant is recipe for failure. second option is to work it up now spray in week to kill new growth from weed seed bank in soil. then fert and plant week later preping the soil by dragging a pallet ot crabappe tree behind that new atv...
