So sad big dairy farmer mowing field killed at least 3 fawns in this field... being scavenged by eagle..

There are a lot of ohio and Missouri hunters that come to new york for long seasons and ample tags..

The world record deer was in stuben county for years if i had 2000 acres here the genetics are here land ownership and hunter density is a huge factor. Most properties here are under 40 acres many are under 10.. you would need to lease from hundreds of land owners to put that land together here or spend a fortune for buying it and nys taxes.. out west farms are 1000 acres or more and one owner could supply 10k acres of land.. Issue here is land ownership and size but could ny make record book bucks in a outfitter run property absolutly!

I always get tired of comparisons to other states.. this hunter density is a good way to show that premium states have significantly less pressure per square mile. Its not their management basically lot less hunters and take. No interest, i took out friend on his property and was sucessful. Then i had other projects to do. Cutting lumber, fixing equipment / vehicles, garden boxes, ect... Family went out opening weekend and then was busy with scouts, eagle project ect.. niece did miss youth season and nephew on opening weekend. Others in camp just havent hunted birds since the late 90s early 2000s . Hunting in general has become a back burner item for me, i enjoy the habitat work and younger hunters now. And cameras are more fun for me than cleaning and cutting up game.

This year will be 29.. amd we need to take 23 deer its possible as nephews and friends kids have all started hubting adding 5 to 7 more hunters.. we average about 18 deer a year with 10 regular hunters and a few guests for a day or two. . Our best year was 2000 with 22 deer taken by 10 hunters ove all seasons.

Did a cutco hunting knife for 300 and a crossbow for 400. Yes we keep a log hunters, deer taken per year and usually stand.. best stand has had 58 deer taken from it before it was retired due to being unsafe.

Lot of carryover birds for fall and hopefully next spring.. i am dissappointed in fawn count so far. My oldest known doe ( now 6) only has a single this year as do a few others many are barren or lost fawns..

Well the possiblity exists that the 500th deer will be taken off my property this year. So i decided to comission a commerative hunting knife for the occasion. It will be damascus with a rosewood burl handel modeled after (imo) the best hunting knife ive found but is no longer made.. a schrade ph2.
