    Scared?

So on comparing the past two years harvest. It seems most change has occurred with bow dropping harvest no. And crossbow picking up the difference. One could assume that some biwhunters have switched toncrossbow for those.2 weeks and simply taken their harvest with the crossbow.. other than that the harvest is about the same
  3. I have my next nephew old enough this year, though the weather and birds do not look promising
  4. Elk, yep that's only 20 ft.. easy
  5. What I thought you need the newest mossy oak or real tree to blend in. .amazing photos as always.
  6. My father hunted but was a drive or sit and wait hunter. I had an interest in trapping well before i could hunt. That became the basis for my learning. Ever deer shot at camp I would back track to see where it came from and what it was doing before it was shot. Reading sign allowed Me to think like a deer as my.father said. I became the camp.dog setting people in spots and pushing deer to them with much better success than they had before Soon it became a year round scouting habit. Then I saw some videos by whitetail vision. And started messing with food plots and habitat manipulation. This is what I still enjoy the most. Me taking a deer is anticlamatic for me.. then comes the part I hate care of the game taken. Turkey hunting I was mentored after my father died a good friend of his that use to work for dick Kirby and had won many calling contests took me out spring hunting for a bird as I had kind of.lost interest in hunting after my father died. He did the calling after i found the birds.. I use to set up.according to the books 100 yards away And call sparingly. He blew that idea out of my.head as we would.sneak to with in 40 yards from roosted birds . Soft call and be done in 15 min or so. Then we would go trout fishing. Come fall we would drive to a 2 bird area stop and ask for permisssion and kill a bird on a day trip. And drive the 5 hours back home. During several.years i hunted with him i learned to call. Though I never took to mouth calls I became very good on slates(pot) and box calls. I was glad a had such a good teacher and though in his last few years our long treks were over we still hunted a few days together every season till he passed.
  7. Chestnut was found in the entire northeast. The map shows . 1900s by then many areas were cleared.. elma ny has many elk fossils found in Indian site yet Lancaster does not.. like all animal and species they are found in greater density pockets and areas contain less. And elk migrate..so if chestnuts weren't numerous in their areas thay could move to food. Or they would be more numerous in high food areas and less in other.
  8. Perhaps crossbow users could say their crossbows identify as compounds and can just be used in archery or whichever season it chooses.
  9. Best ive seen really makes you see the agenda being pushed https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1882472948429979&id=124411634236128
  10. Well it's not the end there are seperate bills.. 16th April starts new session.. and time for more letters and calls
  11. It's such a shame it's just not up to Dec and has to be a law... wish we had a dedicated game department
  12. I own early.marlins and am a large caliber fan. But if you want versatility the Browning is great as it lets you use any bullet in that caliber. Instead of flat or rubber nosed bullets in the caliber. This is true of the savage 99's as well but both will set you back quite a bit of green. If you buy a marlin and go used the serial number that just starts with m is what to look for the rm serial numbers are from Remington buying the company and quality fell. They backed off on materials and went to old.standards where the original Marlins from the 90s and 2000 are built to withstand much higher pressures that would.let you reload to the same as a single shot. ( called them directly when I bought.my 1895 model on .45-70 in 2005) .
  13. Just an idea.. something similar may be what you may feel is missing. Personally i'd go with yellow
  14. I agree.i don't think a state.wide season will happen but in original bear areas c atskills, Allegany, dacks I could see the benifits of one a season there would stop further expansion into more populated areas let allow the newly expanded areas to keep growing their populations
  15. N.Y.S budget passed but what was in it? Did crossbow make it?
  16. Will N.Y. ever have a spring bear season and should it? Saw dead bear cub on 16 yesterday . They are out and about and are definitely expanding range as will as increasing in existing range. Our state always seems to react to late so is it time we push for a spring bears season before they get out if control?
  17. Perhaps he's doing this because he needs something to get him into decent college..or maybe he just want an honorary degree
  18. It's the eyes woolly... something abkut those. Eyes.. maybe set some yellow rose cut glass... very good job with it though!
  19. Call up hill from fields?..you should be right where they are roosting before they head to fields.. that Is my favorite set up. Never killed a bird in a field yet
  20. Go out night before to roost , set up kill bird back to bed by 615am
  21. I just wish these kids would do some research before protesting.. More kids die from alcohol, and texting and driving ..but guns are scary.. I really feel gun safety should be taught in elementary school again in middle.and high.. most of these kids have never seen a real gun.. but they know best... crazy
