i have not been in 8n and h but have been in 9f 9h 9a many times, small woodlots housing in developments surrounded by abandoned family farms some still operating, all private land, no stateland, and some county land in given areas. you specfic town may not have the problem dmu are large and deer are in pockets, set back for bow was done to aid in the 2 week doe only seaon in these areas especially.as you may only get access to 3 or 5 acre lots...

Well here is about the best comparison you can do to mountain lions arriving in nys,, moose next to us from vermont crossed into ny decades ago and wandered back, it took years before we had residents that didnt return to vermont. now 50 years later we have almost 700 moose in ny, yet 99% of new york doesnt have them. this is from a state right next to us. cougars have a long way to get here and it will be an even longer time to establish a breeding resident population. i would bet my life will be long over before that happens. even with escaped pets bolstering the migrants..

Here is something to think about , if everyone that wants a 1 buck rule gets it passed, are they going to do away with the fee for bow and muzzleloader priveledge? I dont mind paying for the extra tag but if they are taking it away they will be just charging you to hunt... and possably give up your whole bow and gun season in 1day...

Can put a plug in it, but I bet 99.9 % you will never get bothered unless you commit another infraction . Winchester modEl 12s were and are still used by many that don't know or don't care about the law..

Fairfax county in Virginia, most of maryland, new Jersey, ohio (urban areas including the city of Cleveland and it's metro parks) Illinois, just about every state uses archery to control deer numbers in certain counties and areas. It's effective and hunters kill doe many haversions earn a buck.. it's no different than have doe only in management areas for 2 weeks except nys hunter attitudes. .. no change is good change!! It's not that archery is ineffective look up takes in this states and areas the take is tremendous. It's the buck first mentaility. I travel to Ohio every other day and know many hunters there ,they just have a diffeet attitude.. many get their urban permit fill the freezer with plentiful does then hunt their honey hole for a good buck.. The only argument you state is its not effective.. it is you give no soLuton to the actual problem of changing hunter attitudes to take anterless in a given area with bow during an anterless season that consider with a either sex season in other areas.. that is the issue!

As for gates or chain/cable on drive.. if it's closed and locked everyone knows your not there. Ask any local they know when the woods are safe to roam. May make it harder to break into a building and cart off the stuff right into a vehicle but as for trespassing it's a sign I'm not here.. best deterrent is to have a friend drive in and out at random days and times. Make some tire tracks in fresh snow.. it confuses people as they don't know if your there or not..

A 17 hmr is higher velocity, hit a squirrel with one and you kill it but there isn't anything left to speAK of.. it was designed for predator/non game species like woodchucks at further ranges. (Most people do not eat) even a head shot consistently on a squirrel may rip the animal apart. A .22 is slower but still let's you shoot to 100 yards or so effectively ,doesn't cause much meat loss in your game. They come in lever action (I have a couple lever action .22 winchester, remmington and Henry as well as marlin) the benifit of a lever is most will shoot short, long, and long rifle. Giving you options for plinkin and various ranges to hunt . All game in nys could effectively be taken with a 20ga, shotgun and a .22. If you get into predator hunting a shotgun wit buckshot and a.223 for longer range shots could be added. If your hunting in managed woods for deer your shot will be much closer and a shotgun will be very effective, yes you could upgrade to a rifle but why do you need a gun that shoots 300 yards plus when you can only see 75 thru the woods? The argument is accuracy but with today's slugs and barrels a 1 or 2 in group at 75 or 100 yards is very achevable with a scope, or practice with opensights. There is my 2 cents...lol

Yes you as an individual do your part, look at general population. For example , 9f Is pretty populated archery is only viable option in many parts of it. As are many other areas. Bow use to open on 15th, 2 weeks extra they gave archers. Why?? To increase deer take. They could of just made it a 2 week gun season . They didn't they know archery is effective for taking game other states have proven it. What they didn't factor in is Hunter attitudes.. That's all this comes down to, and they should issue extra permits in those areas immediately which would of made grow and others happy apparently. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Lol ,just don't want to shoot them with bow and "mess up " your chances for buck.... A lot of the over populated areas are pretty populated no room to gun hunt legally bow can do it and should do it ,but hunter attitudes will never allow it as well there is a chance for a buck to come along,I don't want to shoot doe now. Again I ask how do you change hunter mentaility? Do we need to give a treat out l like training a dog.. shoot 2 doe and get bonus buck tag? Register 2 doe before Oct 15 and next year's licence is free? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

The Fisher I've seen run like a ermine hunched and are.longer in body than tail., to me it really.looks like a cat caring something in its mouth.

I would opt for .22 small game..cheaper ammo. And.less noise, I second the 20 for birds and get a slug barrel.for.gunfor deer z, bow is fun and will.make you a better hunter as you learn to get close to game. A deers.vitals is about the size of a10 in plate. Lot easier to hit than a grouse..or a wood.cock

You could of asked for more tags I would.of gladly went and got one for your doe only area as I only hunt at my home now and 2 deer is enough for me.. I said they could of done things differently yes, but did anyone talk to them about it.. no boycott was it.. and neither side benefited. You boycotted the system.. and gave no fix to them so this year they drop it to hope someone kills deer.. the voice of those that hunt that area should of sent the message give us the bonus tags Oct. 1 and we will fill them.. instead everyone was silent like a 2 year old plotting revenge. I'll boycott again the rallying cry.. instead of let's try this.. that's the issue I have ...

I've done it several times. More if you count 1st week of nov.

Hiding a camera Is pretty easy.. don't put it to cover a wide area. Take the trail that leads to the wide feeding area and place the camera back 30 to 40 yards off trail. Not only will you get better pictures as game is closer to lens but you find a better spot for a stand as the best bucks will hang back from a field and enter after dark.. putting your stand back in that distance gives you daylight to make that shot. I feel the media showing their cam on huge private farms on edge of field or fence crossing is not realistic for most of ny where properties are small and there are many neighbors. Yes cam on scrape on edge of field is very tempting but find a scrape in a small clearing back in the woods or in an orchard.. don't make your cam an easy target for trespassers or non hunters walking around

Lol. deer is much easier to hunt than grouse or turkey. Congrats on the land use to hunt turkey in Delhi always lot of game there. Best of luck and good idea developing the habitat!

Grow, yes it would be great if you could get those extra tags and use them Oct 1 esp if they have a doe only 2 week period. Perhaps they should issue you 2 tags immediately for that area of doe only if selected for one. I still disagree with boycotting the season because you can't take a buck there those two weeks. They should of issued extra tags immediately, or if you filled your either sex tag with a doe ,given you another buck tag for bow. (But that's pretty much the late bow muzzleloader tag) but they asked bow hunters to try and do a job and got slapped in the face.. instead of hunters acting like conservationists taking on the role of predator that is needed

Why isn't early season the time to remove doe? That is an antiquated idea . Of a doe gonna bring a buck by during rut.. In over populated areas the best idea is to reach your doe removal quota early.less doe means more intense searching by bucks for a receptive doe. When there are a lot and buck numbers are small many do not get bred and cycle again into heat. Causing bucks more weight loss and stress. Births become spread out and development of fawns shows the following year as sub par bucks(antler wise) and lighter weight deer in general. Those Deer are also under weight going into a high stress period of winter and late spring. Making them of higher risk for winter kill. Weather becomes a factor for hunters in late season as snow deepens and holidays approach meaning less time and numbers of hunters afield. That causes the population to keep expanding as now does that were let go so the could be taken later on tags aren't taken and the problem continues....

You can use any legal implement during the regular season, I know a few that bowhunters the whole regular season as well as late muzzleloader/bow.

The area they need reduced is pretty urban the bow is the proper choice in that area, and hunters rejectedted it because they want a chance for buck same two weeks, so jow Dec will have to add a season to try and control numbers. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Bow can be very effective at controlling numbers, the choice of waiting for a buck is the concern. Ohio does control their number by archery that is apparent.. the question is how do you change hunter attitudes. Your chances at a mature buck are much better when bucks have to look for does. Not have their pick of 20.. 5 buck and 20 doe means bucks don't have to move to find doe, 5 buck and 3 doe and buck have to look and fight for right to breed.. that's an extreme example but my own experiences prove it to be true we see way more buck than we use to after we concentrated on doe harvest 1st. The biggest problem I see is just hunter attitude in using a bow to get that 1st chance a big buck.. which is why many gun hunters also hate bowhunters. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Best security is to hide the cameras better. Lock(bear) boxes are made for specific cams.
