The stock they breed does and it's use to humans, and I have been to several high fence preserves, for hogs, the deer there are still the most reclusive of animals I've seen in them but would not be hard to kill. And like I said the rack in a few generations will be "found" and put in the books .diminishing the fair chase taken bucks. Face it it's not like they have "made in china" stamped on their racks. And if someone wanted to pay for one of the breeder to hunt they would be hunted.. everything has a price. And that makes it even sadder to say these fenced preserves are hunting. It's just a shoot. I like "wild " pork but I do not consider it a hunt just a killing of my own slaughter hog. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

If a deer is use to humans feeding them.and interacting with them they imprint on them, it doesn't matter if they are moved to a hunting preserve the wildness has been removed.. again diminishing the fair chase taken bucks.. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Damn ir pics...

Ugh, the problem is a few generations from now these racks will be found and entered into record books as grand dad's buck, stories will be made and the antler craze moves ever on.. I especially like the way they are all coming for food with the person standing there filming them.. no still wild inside the fence there.. easy hunt drop some food and let them walk by till you see one big enough.. it's as bad as entering sheds or a found rack in the book from a non-hunt able area and bragging your in the record book. Truly diminishes the value of a legally hunted fair chase buck.

Around 250 using that pic, you really need to see belly and legs, on smaller bears the ears are big the older the more recessed they look. A good video to learn to judge is "master of the black bear" by whitetail visions

Can high fence deer be kept as wild as free range deer ?
G-Man replied to LJC's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
If large enough and minimal hunters and proper population inside of enclosure. .maybe... they don't make money that way... I will.say of every animal I've seen while hog shooting inside a fence the deer are most reclusive.. but being bred and raised in much smaller pens and having more human contact by doing so and sex ratios out of ballance inside the pen (people want to shoot bucks not doe) it would be very rare indeed to have any animal placed inside a fence to be was wild as free range wildlife in my opinion. -
Had a grouse raise 5 little ones this year and they got pretty acustomed to me. They let me get.pretty close.. that is until next week when season opens..took a few pics today..

Just pick a caliber that is good for ranges you expect to shoot amd game. 30,30 is great caliber, I like the little added punch of 45_70. And ability to kill anything on north American continent. It's shorter range 250 yards. But I like getting close to game. And with the ocasional bear where I hunt I like the bigger hole and penetration it provides. Some 30 30 deer rounds are to light or wrong bullet for a heavy bear.

45_70 I have several, fun to shoot , 30-30 are nice, but there is just someting about a large caliber... if you want to be different .35 rem. 444.marlin,45 long colt, but ammo is easy to find for 45 70 amd 30 30..

I have climbers but haven't used them in over a decade, I prefer hangon and set them weeks before season. 2 problems I found with climbers ,there is never a tree where I need one to be that is climbable ,and never have shooting lanes where I do want hunt.. maybe it would work with gun but I found them to be pretty useless in bow where I hunt.

Go ahead,urine is urine..

I'm almost 100% sure it's the same, we had bad hard and soft mast year last year although it was mild winter. That food makes a difference...

The color photo is this year year is wrong date is correct, the ir pic is last year after season.. do you think they are same buck?

I love to drive and do 1.5 hr to work each way everyday. I find it funny when people ask me why .. they will drive 2 hr or more to hun every day but not work.. .

There is a new state land initiative on early succession al forest that 90+management area are now involved it.. timber sales have been signed and designated profit to go to conservation fund. The state tries but is severely understaffed.. but this may look promising Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Welcome I know a few instructors and members of hawkeye. All good people.

It's not the leasing that's the problem,it's management of forest that's is lacking.. if you manage the habitat then the game will be there.or wou will draw them over to better habitat. A hunter leasing the hunting for deer on a property does little for the habitat. The owner of the proper ty is the main failure there he/ she should know a certain number of deer should be taken and work that into the lease... deer will strip.a woods and a mature Woodlot is pretty damn useless for just about every game species. Secondary growth, select logging, leaving dead snags and girdle ing trees is lacking today. Lack of trapping, small game hunting does more damage than not shooting a deer. So for leasing ruining hunting that's the least of my concerns, very few people I know and a few on this site actually manage habitat. I'm not talking about the guy that thinks food plots solve all his problems I'm talking about those that actually understand what conservation is and better their properties practicing it. That being said I would love for someone to pay me to hunt my land.. but there would be stipulations in harvest quota, and management of habitat.

hunting without a truck how do you transport your deer
G-Man replied to Chef's topic in Deer Hunting
Haven't has a truck in years , needed better gas mileage. Simply Put them in or on top of trunk..one year had one In trunk and one on top, Still get a kick out of all the city people coming out in the snow getting stuck coming up the hill in their truck only to have me zip by in my car. A truck doesn't make you a man like 4wheel.drive doesn't make you a driver. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk -
Simple take a younger hunter with you to "show him the ropes" they will be happy to drag your deer out for you!

They should have a shooting team and a gun class in every school as education is key, I have introduced several non hunters to shooting , they all enjoy it. Some buy their own and go to ranges. Amd admit the fear.of the unknown was the thing they needed to overcome

Hunting Etiquette/Unwritten Rules when around other Hunters
G-Man replied to uberyan's topic in Deer Hunting
Don't skip.opening day. Best advice is get familiar with the area you want to hunt and get in there early.in the dark using minimum light . Set up and wait when you bored still hunt. , the rest of season still hunt everywhere those close areas are often passed by as everyone thinks they have to get deep.. deer pattern us same as we do them. -
I have a target list i wait for . It's usually the top 3 or 5 I have on cam out of 30 plus different bucks. I share it with the other guys I hunt with so we all have an idea if whats available. Age and size are usually bigger but the us no set humber if a 120 is all we have on cam that the target, some years it all 130 plus inch deer.. you can't wait for a 160 in if there isn't one in your hunting area..

Climbers are not really that versitile. 90% of where I hunt the trees are too limby, it's to thick, the tree isn't big enough, there is no tree, the only tree that a climber could go in is too far for a shot. I've killed many deer from stands but my biggest have been from the ground in a "line of fire" to much emphasis on stand from tv shows. I'd rather see a deer at 30 yards on the ground then watch one at 300 from a stand. So back to your post when asking permission, telling a land owner the method your goijg to use may get you a no or yes, many.land owners have valuable timber and do not want you scuffing up trees or limbing them out, or putting screw in steps in them.hunting from the ground may be your ticket in ,and Do yourself a favor and learn to identify types of trees do when you get permission and the owner says I don't want you in / or cutting any black cherry or white oak, you know what he's talking about.a

You don't need to use a climbing stand, I would bet more deer are taken off the ground than from a stand..

Yes I have seen many around. But knowing the owner I have knowledge that none have asked. But I do see hunters Hunting it.
