How do I just see titles of posts ? I don't need to see all the replies as posts.. argh!!!!
-
Like the old way to see content better. This is disturbing...

For those of you that leave stands up? How do you safely inspect them for broken welds, deterioration of straps, deteriorated cables? I can only do that at ground level and using weights to test them .. can't imagine trying to do that in a tree

What are you guys paying .....

I'll have to look for.my.receipt but 9 lbs purple top was like 13.00 this spring. . -
I'd plant the whole acre in clover 1x a month is perfect mowing in summer it stops growing and goes to seed. Next mowing shatters heads and reseeds.. it's a food plot and lawn.. best of both worlds..

Looks like an oops stupid dad posting that .. had a fried do same on fb couple of years ago..kid shot buck in youth hunt, dad posts it..ok legal..then next day kid shoots doe. . Dad posts it how proud he is.. send note with law.. 1 deer during youth hunt... smart enough to remove post quickly... ignorance of law doesn't make it right..

Yote with mange would be my guess, but shave of head and size
-
This may frustrate some hunters a little..

Let a trapper in! I have one that traps all season and calls after.season. even traps coon and critter during bow around the fields ,just gave him instructions to enter and exit fields and time to check traps...was more than happy to consent, he now has 3 neighbors properties to trap.as well. Over 640 acres all his all season.. does a great job ! If I get 1 pic of a yoteam now on camera a year it's a lot.. wasn't like that before he started trapping... -
Take your daughter with you and have her ask..it's frightening but farmers will appreciate you teaching her to ask rather than being a bring along,or a story to let you hunt.. starting with smaller game is a good route as well , woodchucks, squirrel, turkey.. after you build a relationship with someone that way deer hunting and neighbors properties open up.as well, a thank you note after a small game hunt a d a holiday card go far as well. I got permission as a youth for turkey in Delaware County 5 hours from my house with a friend thay taught me how to turkey hunt. After a few years deer hunting was offerd as well as introductions to neighbors to hunt..my friend has since passed but I still have access to severally hundred acres of private land there.

I know there is a law you can graze your sheep in central park....still on the books!
-
It all depends the habitat your hunting here there are winter yards and summer range the dee move quite a bit, my one friend in rochester area has captive bucks in small rural setting that are kept in place by developments..
-
Find bedding by doing drives.. you will.find them quick around noon ot where you jump deer... not.see them a season of drives will educate you on bedding areas as well as escape routes.. once learned they remain fairly consistent year to year and you will learn to recognise similar areas. I don't give specfic areas as terrain in nys varies to greatly.. from patchy Woodlore in agriculture to wilderness to everythig in between

I go through hanging bog and cranberry hollow and only time any one is there are phesant release days...cuba use to gave a squirrel contest but hasn't had it since bow opened Oct 1..
-
In my area small game hunting is almost non existant, especially with turkey shortened to 2 weeks..Can't remember last time I saw anyone hunt small game
-
My land is posted quite well and no squirrel hunters around me .just deer
-
Got a map them all.. it's funny guys can walk by them with GPS coods in hand..

I started July 1st hang 30 plus takes me about 2 months..then I am out of the woods starting sept 1 and no one goes scouting . Oct 1st the woods are Virgin to man..lol. seems extremely paranoid but I have a large piece surrounded by mamy small camps they show up a month before and hammer stands , atv scout, trim trails and just slam car and truck doors as well as fire up those chimneys . The deer alert and head for peace and quiet which my propertyprovides them.. over 25 years it's proven itself time and time again. . Trail cams get moved to fields and logging roads..
-
If your new to cams.put them out anytime and learn how they work, if your serious scouting late August early.sept will show what hardhorns you have on your property ,my friend gets all worked up.watching bucks grow all July and is so dissapointed when they dissappear in august and sept. I only care what uses the land I hunt. I pick the top 5 as targets for the year.no sense in watching bucks thay dispurse.miles from their home range.. can't tell you how many people I know hunt bucks that are no longer near their stands they scouted in july but are a mile or so properties away. As season gets closer I keep my cameras on easy.access sites. That I can grab and check with out disturbing them from natural movements by leaving scent all over.. logging roads and field edges are best for.me at thay time
-
It's not size of your"target" but how you use the land and how you move.. I never realized this until this past year, a friend still hunted the ridge the day before.me. he walked the ridge in a straight line wind in his face.. didn't see a thing, I walk the ridge and see bedded deer all the time.. he likes to see so stays skylined walking ridge, dee may not smell or hear him but they can see him 300 yards away I can see where he walked in the snow. I walk but on the opposite crest and only approach the ridge to peak over every 100 yards or so.only my head being visible to the skyline I stop.and.glass.and scan, Deer are bedded on a lower bench and bang get.my.deer. That being said bring what you feel you need , big woods I'd have a compass, extra ammo amd signaling.mirror, fire starts and emergency foil blanket to go along with my regular gear.

Dig them out is best.. time consuming best if stumps were.left.high enought to push over
-
Remember to look at odds for applying.. you may need to put your preferred point area first then your land owner ..
-
You will get do for area you land is in, if you have preferred points for another area they will be used for that area..

Plant clover..for a lawn
