  1. Well the drought has caused the oaks hickory and apples to self prune their fruit and nuts.. what looked to be a good year lis looking dismal. Food plots severely stunted due to lack of water. At.least established clover fields are looking good.. gonna have to find hidden pocket near spring and hunt fields if it greens up later this summer.. mast is looking as a no show..

    Nesting

Well after a crappy cold.may it's been warm and dry, birds that lost 1st nest seem to have done very well with second nesting. Hot and dry leaves little scent for predators to follow. Perhaps the hatch will lift bird numbers for the fall. 1 good nesting season can do amazing things for numbers.
  3. It's a wrap, anyone can buy one and put where ever you want.
  4. The big wHite one with big lawn it looks like..
  5. Unless you've seen those buck in hard horn trying to keep them there will be tough, they have different requirements in summer than they do fall. That being said, 1. Identify what the deer are using your property for.food, bedding, travel corridor. 2. What does your property lack thay could make them use it more? Water, food, cover, bedding, escape cover, sanctuary 3 . Plan and execute it to create said need.. 4. Pray they stay...
  6. Wind direction would be great help.. but pinch behind house is a good spot to start esp if they have dog or hunt themselves. I would then walk the creek looking for crossings. They either bed or will use side hill benches for travel, find where one narrows and you will have another pinch point to scout and hunt, entrance routes will dictate where you can put stand based on wind direction.. To often we want to hunt the best sign only to spook and scent up the area and ruin it before we can hunt properly.. it's the most overlooked problem I see most hunters do, it may have great sign but if you can't get there without spooking everything out its worthless to spend time there, better to have better access over less sign and get your game while they are unaware
  7. Tufts of winter hair coming out is all..
  8. A spy or sabetuer from within a party... many wear on hat in public and one in private. Most of Germany did thay in ww2. They weren't nazis but wore the hat and worked within the system.I get it grow and yes registering one way and voting another is a common thing. I truly hope a canidate emerges from a political party that is more moderate but has the support of the party they bole long to.. they say Republicans don't want trump but who voting him in the primarys
  9. Pex by far if your town allows it..

    Happ birthday!
  11. You can still add turnip to the clover (a light seeding so it doesn't shade out clover) let clover establish first.
  12. Here is a turtle for you wooly I have only ever seen 2 in the wild.. a spiny softshell..pretty rare from what I've found. This was last weekend as well
  13. As an added note the tree you want to be in should be 13 to 18 yards from the spot you expect tonshoot. If you draw a circle from thay spot then use main wind direction to pick the specfic tree.. it may not be suitable for a climber and picking a wrong tree that is right for your stand is a waste of your time as deer will scent, see, or be out of range.. sticks, steps or ladder may be needed to hunt thay spot properly. . This set up advice works for every stand you place anywhere.. I urge you to try it it makes a huge difference is seeing and killing older bucks.
  14. Has it been corn previous year? If so get in woods now 100 yards or so and walk old trails that enter field, the rubs will face away from the field.. usually down wind there will be old rubs from previous years.. it will be thick you will only have a lane or two.. you won't see a ton if deer but you will see the buck.. they will stage 10 to 100 yards or so inside the woods waiting for dark.. do not worry about seeing deer in field.. that's media tv.. It's better to be in the right tree to get a deer that you might see.. then be in a tree and see deer that you might get an opportunity on if your lucky..
  15. Way better to meet your neighbors before season even if it takes a little effort. My neighbor to the north had just closed on his place a few weeks before season. Didn't get it all posted just the road.. saw someone cutting across the corner of his property opening day.. chased the guy down and kicked him off before letting the guy expalin he was his neighbor who's property surrounded his on 2 sides.. he would cut the corner to get to his far woods.. Needless to say they weren't friendly after thay and when he hit a nice buck thay went onto his corner cutting neighbors land he was denied tracking and lost a nice buck to him.. I met the corner crosser. Not a bad guy but was rubbed the wrong way with no chance to explain or apologise.. now I have permission to hunt his and the neighbor to the Norths by not passing jugement on someone immediately. . Maybe some day thru me they might become friendlier. But it a lot harder to over come then just getting off on a good foot with a good dialog and mutual understanding
  16. Good thing harvest numbers were down due to heat last fall.. that has much bigger impact than the winter unless it's severe.

  18. I may sound like an ass but really I don't care for most contests. Too much emphasis on size and or score.. brings out the worse in people and what they do to win.. I like the youth contest as size doesn't matter it's the story and enthusiasm the kid puts into the story.. I really wouldn't have a problem if they banned them, but that is my own opinion I'm sure there are competitive people out there that just live for them.. to each his own.
  19. The sad part is this should.just be handled by a game department and no vote.needed from.politicians on it..
  20. They are out feeding their pups now .. cam is on friends place he has problem with them, I don't have a problem with them here (about 2.5 miles from me. I'm lucky if I get 1 coyote on cam all fall.. but, my neighbor and I get after them and with friends thay trap amd call they don't last by me. He doesn't let people on his property and has problems.. management is hard and you need help, allowing a trapper or other hunters is a useful tool that many will not use as they are to worried someone will get their deer or come back and poach the deer they see . I haven't had that problem and have had them kick others off while they are trapping or predator hunting.. they respect me for allowing them the access to begin with and though we started as strangers we have become friends...
  21. Don't think the fawn stands a chance. This is a few.miles.from my place. Near where the coyotes live in a junkyard.
  22. The real question is how you can support any one who's been in politics for decades and has ecomplished nothing except increasing her/ his networth and lying. Making one of them p re side t will surly let them accomplish their hair brained ideas thay have been voted down for decades...
  23. Way different, and quotes out of context are meaningless.. like Ben Franklin wanting the wild turkey as the national bird . .. no where near the truth.. he hated the idea of a scavenger like the bald eagle so much he said if your going to do that may as well make the turkey the national bird as its a good mother and defends and protects it's young.. he wanted a falcon (a true hunter) but most were against it as falcons were used extensively in European countries and they wanted to distance us from europe.
  24. I'm not impressed with it compared to other cabellas.. but you will find what you want.
  25. An easier crossbow cost.me a shot at a great buck because the limbs are horizontal a d lanes are vertical, the limbs would hit tree trunks.. it's a whole new learning curve.. no maybe sitting in a blind in a open field with a rest is easier but I don't like hunting field..
