  1. Your missing how the west hast reversed the arrow shelf,be much easier for second shot with out having to move arow around the bow for rt handed shooter. Less movement would be much better for hunting as well as holding a second arrow at the ready. His athletic ability aside the historical evidence points,at his shooting form and method.
  2. Tricks aside, the arrow shelf on right side of bow, and way he holds arrows as depicted on ancient bias reliefs, shows how much the western modern archery has lost learning what we know from an Indian who was the last of his kind......
  3. The real.question is why are modern bows made.with arrowshelf on opposite side, obviously him shooting off right side of the bow is much quicker and the way he can hold arrows as depicted in ancient bais reliefs, shows how much we've lost in archery knowledge. Considering we know what we do from an Indian who was last survivor of his kind....

  5. The problem is its all estimates (the deer take and objectiveS) on less than a 1/2 square mile we take 5 to 10 antlered buck a year. But the objective for my wmu is 3.5 to 4.2. That means a lot of other area in that wmu is way under that. Perhaps better management is done by decreasing the size of wmu. And education. If you get a dump in your area and do not see many deer what says you have to fill it. The best properties are managed by the people that hunt it using the tags the dec issues and based on their own observations. I do not know of many camps that average 15 plus deer a year (usually consisting of 10 doe and rest antlered buck) for over 20 years. From my perspective there are mo re than enough deer and I see no need to change anything
  6. The topic of dec autonomy is,the only issue, every thing else is,a political compromise. Why isnt it brought up? Because As a whole we are apothetic, everyone ecxpects a season next year,99% do not understand there is no season till its signed into law for next year. Those that bought a liftime licence think it's a permanent thing... I do not know how to wake people up to this fact. Until the dec is seperate from enviromental and is its own game comission able to act on its own making seasons and changes nessasarry as deemed by its biologists.. it's not going to. Change fast enough to meet conditions and or demand.
  7. better according to who?, the guys/girl i work with (about 20 ohio residents ) are amazed at our hunting opportunities and have started to hunt here. as land access and cost of leases are going up and are out of reach for many residents.(an acre of land is 5000 there) most that do extensive hunting get permission from farmers to shoot does only on nusence tags. You need written permission to be on any land and their game department is much larger and better staffed. Mandatory deer checks that are staffed, and they can do changes as they are in charge of game in ohio, nys dec is not in charge of anything everything must go thru nys legislature so quick changes or extending the season for a few day or doe only weekend to reach numbers desired is impossible. So the question is its better according to who?
  8. that is up to them, the media influence of how important a big buck is to get. Honestly someone getting a big buck here in ny is,much more impressive as property size is small in nys, avg. 50 acre farms vs 400 plus acre farms.. that alone is,one reason management plans out west (landowner get tags that they can sell to anyone ) vs our camps that are too small to even qualify for a single doe tag.
  9. The dec was not happy with the bow harvest in ny,I believe that this (ohio harvest numbers)was the push to get crossbow in nys. Had bow hunters shot doe (instead of waiting for a buck like many do) I do not think you would of seen x bow pushed for by dec. To further the needed increase in take of anterless (in areas that need it) you will probably see a 1 buck limit pushed here to force bowhunters to take more doe. As for being compared with to another state that has a,short gunseason,I would expect a larger take percentage with archery equipment as if you don't hunt archery, your chances of hunting all 7 or 10 days of gun are slim (work, family, sickness, weather, ect) and rememer their dnr doesn't have to wait for legislature to pass any changes they want to make, nys dec doesn't have that option,we don't even have a season next year till coumo signs the bill allowing it next year....
  10. I tend to stay away from chickory, once it's established it's tough to get rid of,I use a rotation of wheat, clover, corn, alfalfa, and brassica. Once in a while I do sunflowers in a few fields.
  11. Today's shed..only followed aboUT 2 miles of trails in a cut corn field.
  12. Still way down in population here, and a winter flock can disperse pretty far. Get a muck better idea in march when they gobble.
  13. I ve read the article several times and see where it says region by region. Not state wide. I understand ar's in the catskills. Large numbers of hunter per acre. People may not see a buck there at all , region 9 you may see 10 different buck and many does over the same smount of time. Most people I know in 9 wait for a decent buck.... but will shoot a spike if it's late in the season. I know 2 people ed how got surveys and are both against mandatory AR but practice it on their own. And both were mailed back so I know 2of 4000 are no votes.
  14. Put a motion camera out of hunters view on motion at field entrance he/she can't see. I do this on a 6 ac cornfield. And I have a cam 59 yrds from one stand I hunt was while I hunt . Nothing like seeing a flash in trees and not seeing what made it as its on a trail you can't cover from your stand.get down after the hunt and check the cam to see a nice bear or buck....
  15. I think it just comes down to less successfull hunters being jelous of the kids who are probably out with more successful hunters. I hear the same thing in nys youth hunt. Changing the law doest help against illegal hunters.if poachers are the problem more officers to enforce the laws.removing g his opportunity. .. It only hurts the law abiding ones. Seems, the same for every gun law they push thru, punish the law abiding instead of enforcing existing laws.
  16. I find it kind of funny that everyone would expect to see big bucks just walking around while the we're hunting their doe. Just because there would be,more,of them doesnt make, them dumber. I would bet they would still elude most hunters seeing them...
  17. I place a cam on a plot in video mode.never saw a need for a wide angle.view of 4 acres. A sit in a tree or a walk around the field will show entry and exit points put a tree gulag cam there
  18. 2 tags,a day I would shoot 2,little ones and donate... then go back for more..
  19. Original story from deer n deer hunting..
  20. In a desert.. can't see if tree was growing around it as its slow growing.. I'd be looking for a campsite area and a body if no sign of one it's older than u think... Guns were life back then.. you didn't leave them to far out of reach..

  22. The 3-5 grand on a guided hunt is for a better chance as the guide is suppose to have patterned the target animal, set your stands and done everything I enjoy doing for myself and others.and you are at a greatly reduced hunters per acre. And personaly I can get the same average size bucks that are offered on their own properties off my own property in nys and wouldn't pay to hunt out of state for whitetail. 140 plus gross is quite possible and 130's are consistantly taken off 300 acres.
  23. I meant in breeding pens removing horns, and there is an unnatural number of large bucks in a hunting pen as compared to free range as the high fence hunt wouldn't be bought if there wasn't a better chance of success . If I was unclear I apologize. To me that is a big difference. And yes the average hunter in true fashion would not have succeeded in a pen or outside in your senario
  24. I was given a .22 when I was 10 as well as my 2 older brothers when they were 10. We had bb guns when we were 8. We were the terror of the pond/swamp shooting snapping turtles and frogs, tin cans old.bottles interested family trash dump. I don't know if those age laws were in effect then. But I was only supervised by my brothers who ae 2 and 3 years old er than me,, that said I would not tag a deer my son or daugher shot with some one else's tag nor advertise it. Why that bothers.me so much idk but it just feels.like stealing. Using his own tag maybe it would not bother me as sacral ice of his own tag was given to the child.but to get a tag so presumably he could.keep hunting is stealing from other hunters. Against the law.for sure but it's the greed/selfishness that bothers me more.
