Pure venison ,np, if it was burger mixed with pork toss it. Mixed with beef suet eat it. Pork fat doesn't freeze solid so it rots while in your freezer. Beef and venison fat freezes solid so no breakdown occurs. Heck they have eaten frozen baby mammoth at 10000 years old....

Here is the one thing I always hear about ar's they won't apply to youth.... well my question is what about the 34 year old new hunter who asked I teach her how to hunt? Or the father in law who wants to try it after his daughter got hooked and got her 1st buck at the age of 26,because she wanted to spend more time with her husband? There are really a lot of "new hunters" that have a lot less experiance.hunting than my nephew who has been shooting woodchucks for 3 years and got his first turkey.. that is a big problem with ar's. how about the older hunter who has always hunted State land and only gotten 3 buck in 20 years, and now has his own property and wants the chance a 4pt he's watched in his yard all year? Rember though you may of had success and taken your buck or two every year many more hunters have not. Just because you have evolved to want or need a challah get of an older buck, many more have not and may never reach that point. I wonder how many years hunting and bucks taken correlate to wanting or against ar's? That would make an interesting survey imo. -

unfortunatly there are many weekend hunter that buy licences and many will not if they do not have a place to hunt, many small camps have 4-10 guys on 30 acres... take them off the list of hunters buying tags, they will go away for a week and just drink... most people on this site have a passion for hunting and will hunt , but many will tresspass, poach, or road hunt if they cant hunt the spots they hunted for years... the main thing i hear from a tresspasser is i hunted here for years!!! state doesn't have resources to enforce the complaints now, and the state will get a lot less $$$ from lease situations or they will raise property taxes to make up the difference forcing the guy that doesnt want to lease his property out to do so or sell... and what of a non hunter recreonation land owner whos property goes up in tax because of the game it holds...this is a bad idea as trying to tax vacant land on potential timber value!!! -

i personally see no reason to change the tag system we have now, but i do see a need to create small wmu"s. for example, i am fortunate to have a large population of deer on my property and try to take 10 adult doe a year to keep the population in check. my friends down the road 7 miles are lucky to even see a doe, wmu cover large areas and there are pockets within that do not follow the managment quota of bucks per square mile. my town is about 5 miles by 7 miles.. the take last year was 101 buck and 99 doe , my small corner took 8 buck and 10 doe or about 10% of total take for the town on less than 1/2 square mile. Unfortunatly smaller wmu's are not going to be a feasable thing to do for the state as it would require mandatory deer. checks and more biologist on the payroll. but smaller wmu's would allow a more specfic management system to be put in place to properly manage the herd, population and age structure if that is the goal. I personally cannot understand how the state can manage the herd with out mandatory deer checks.. for all of you that look at the mid west as a deer mecca..guess what they alll have mandatory deer checks(yes i know by law we are supose to report our harvest obviously it isnt working or 280 acres would not take 10% of reported/estimated kill) why dont we start there before we try to adjust the herd with new regulations!!! -

how does this bring more money into the state? it brings it to the landowners ,they report it the state can get a portion of taxes.. more leases means fewer hunters and less licence sales (wich fund wildlife programs) -

I had 8 "shooter" bucks on cam,1 was killed by a neighboring propetty by a guest. The rest? I have 4 back on cam after the season and during.no more were taken, the buck I got I never saw before. This is after 16 years of management for game.my firm belief is that 3.5 and older bucks die of natural causes and not hunters... -

The best hunting and fondest memories I have in hunting were the late.o's early 2000's deer were plentiful, land was still accessible. Ask yourself this if you shot a buck that scored 120 or so every year would you be happy?or would you want a bigger deer maybe 140's. If so your a user and greedy as much as you hate to admit it. There is more to a hunting experiance.imposing your belief on a another hunter having to take a certain size deer. Is the same as a person forcing you to learn spanish...there is no biologicaly benifit to learning it or letting one grow bigger except to meet someone else's beliefs. -

1st the wmu are to big to do any kind of true management. 2nd you can't stockpile big bucks the will find a safe haven ,it may be the non hunters yard, 3rd I work back and forth to ohio, the hunters I talk to do not see anywhere neAR the number of deer that we have in ny.and most I have talked to do not like the 1 buck rule.plus their licence is all inclusive. The only problem.is the media cramming big bucks down your throat. You want a big buck hunt where they are (you don't need to leave the state to do so)obviously looking at nys big buck club site and others that showcases nys bucks they are here, you are either not putting the time or effort in it that is required, hunt where there are few,or your a bad hunter...... me not shooting a buck isn't going to up your chance, time and effort do that. -
I practice at 75 yards with my bow so I can make that shot, every person has individual limits, the equipment we use is much more capable that, all equipment, bow ,gun or crossbow.... x bow is still stick and string, and archery is where it belongs. Putting it Anywhere else is out of ignorance and fear.

The conservation fund is suffereing,a one buck rule would make it suffer more as I would buy my bow tag and if it was filled I wouldn't buy a gun tag. As would many others, dec won't do that as $ makes their jobs. As for AR everywhere, they seem to be,allowing counties to decide that for themselves. -
dont mind the cold if the snow stays away, freeze them bug in the ground and get the ice thick enough to fish...

Wow my house is 3000 sq ft,propane is my stoves heat and water, 40 cord at 60 is 2400.00$ my propane is 2.09 a gallon I use 500 gallon.or 1045.00$ a year and I don't have to load or remove ash,or move propane closer to heater. I'll stick with propane. It's still my firm belief unless wood is under 30 a cord,or you own the woods and do the wood yourself your better off insulating and using alternative heat.
-
It's feasible if you do 90% of work yourself, but my time and efforts are worth more to be at my regular job than cutting and splitting wood... see a lot of wood for sale by posters over 100 a cord (I assume face cord) if your burning 10 cord of wood that's a lot of cash outlay...

saw unbroken, was good but mom and aunt had to cover faces when torture senes were on. thhe interview was good lots of crude humor, into the woods long...but good story line, the hobbit battle of 5 armys ..dissapointing if you've read the book(and confusing if you didnt see first two) mocking jay is good but again need to see first 2 movies... fury is good if you can find it still up at theatre
-
65-85 a facecord. I have a lot of firewood but don't burn any of it, it's cheaper for me to use propane, and a lot less work. Spent a good buck insulating the house when I built it and only use 500 gal of propane a year about $1000.00 or less than 100 a month. It's always on and if power is out the generator takes care of circulating pump. No mess ,no bugs and no ash to deal with.

if it stinks then all the meat or tissue is not removed... is the brain case and sinuses clean? (one of the reasons a true european mount was cut, aids in removal of brain and sinus matter) heat will whiten all cooked bones are white.. as it boils the marrow out of them removing the grease.

Why no rifles in some shotgun only areas
G-Man replied to Borngeechee's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I apologize and post calibers allowed in ohio now. Legal deer hunting rifles are chambered for the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .454 Casull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, .50-110 and .500 Smith & Wesson. -
200 lbs is an average bear in ny. I would do a rug personally, was going to do a rug with the 400 pounder I shot, but decided if I got another beAR it would not.likely be over 400 lbs. So I did a full mount. If your going out west a bear of over 200 is more than likely. So a full mount of that would be better as a rug that size would cover a big wall. 200 lbs 5 by 7 after felt. A 400 lb would be 6x9 wit felt. A smaller bear is much easier to display as a rug than a large one and if it came down to it 1/3 the cost and 2x resale value of a full mount.

That shot is above the spine for sure.. I believe you may be right in it being same deer. I got a buck on Dec 13 that had lost both horns from a pass thru sm caliber shot in its brisket. Stress is stress... -

Why no rifles in some shotgun only areas
G-Man replied to Borngeechee's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Ohio passed a rifle law this year, strait walled caliber only.. 45-70, 30-40 kraig, 45-120,45-90 ect for example. the reason? range is liminted to about 200-300 yards max when fired 4 ft horizontal . if people truly wanted to use rifle in shotgun only areas that would be the route to take when persuing it. most modern shotguns and modern slugs have the same performance as those calibers though.
