Same here passed little bucks everyday i've been out, shot low on one i liked A nice 8 with a sticker off his mainbeam then had a 140" walk out 125yrds in front of me while tracking. Good news is my friend saw the one i hit low last night so its fine...whew.. 2 miles of tracking eving before and the next mornig kind of had me convinced anyway.(low brisket shot). Sounds like your willing to wait for a nice one and thats the only way it will happen. I take a small game head with me and when i'm getting really fustrated i'll take a squirrl or rabbit or my favorite grouse. Keeps me sharp and lets me refocus on waiting for a good buck!

Doesn't really matter what the weather is its opening day and i'll be out!!!

Other 45-70gov lever action.. my woods are thick shots out to 100 are rare. big bullet big hole, like having a multiple shot muzzloader!, not much deflection, will take any game in north america!! and its a great 200 yard gun. And i never have to worry about tracking!

26 years with gun ...lost a doe with gun, jumped in a flooded creek and was swept away. walked the bank down stream to the lake never found her..watcher her go in swim half way across and go under..never came up.... 24 years with bow ...just lost a nice 8 last night this am.. misjudged range hit low thru brisket..follow blood drop about 800 yards..neverlay down or stopped walking crossed 2 roads.. gave up after continuing for 4 hrs this am.. has probably gone over 2 miles...don't think it will die

The rut playing out to Alsheimer's prediciton this year?
G-Man replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Well i finially saw 2 shooters today.. not chasing just cruising.. they young ones have been doing that for last week or so.. but i dont consider them as part of the rut i look for mature deer activity and so far hes right on.. i expect the big ones to be chasing good by weeks end... -
I think the dec deer jaw bone aging is only a guide.. i shot a buck that a tooth cross section put at 8.5 (i have a friend that has a thin section machine and he does this stuff for a living) but the dec said 3.5.. when i showed them the sheds i had going back 5 years they kind of swollowed hard and walked away.. deer in sandy areas will wear teeth down faster as will one eating lot of natural browse , than one eating lush foodplot forage. I still would put your pic at 3.5...

nice!! clean it up if the barrel is shot(pitted n rusty) you can get a replacement pretty easy

this is the second time for snow this bow season here ,but this one seems to have em spooked this am..sure they will be moving later today though...

Try hanging bog/cranberry hollow lots of land to roam on good deer / turkey/grouse/ even some snow geese right now.. still open foresty(lumber land) on cooper hill rd in humphery as well. not to metion about 50 other parcels of stateland all over catt/allegegny co. Re try those doors you knocked on after the season now is not the best time to approch most landowners.... they look as a promise to help now as just a promise to get to hunt..show em after everthing is closed how serious you are and you'll get some land opened to you .

Has anyone else noticed the lack of success as of late???
G-Man replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Bow Hunting
had 2 doe and an 8 pt taken at camp.. still just little buck trying to chase... lots of snow today seems to have everthing spooked this am... -
Not to raise any argument but why the 100" mark... nys books are 120 bow and 140 gun i believe.. pope & young 125 i believe.... i guess thats what i always assumed was a good buck.Never even gave 100" a thought...

Are your camerad capable of reading a 4 gig card..my older ones only take up to 2 gig.
-
Hard to say if the spike would even had made it, like albinos piebalds usually have other deformities, organs, short legs,antlers.. they just dont seem to be as healthy a a normal deer.

Words cannot express the appreciation....

Thanks ! its my favorite ..i like it even better than my 146in 8 pt... big racks are nice but you just dont see the odd colored deer that often

Mahindra,Kubota,Kioti...or Bobcat
G-Man replied to Single_shot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Tillers are good unless you have a lot of rocks/roots.. i'll stick with a plow or cultivator for inital plowing unbroken ground...replacing them tines get expensive... and i do large food plots till would be ideal for smaller hunting type plots -
yeah its in the taxidermy post but here it is again

Happens a lot more than u think...make sure your game is dead... what's the price of another bullet?
-
yeah their neat..got one back in 07' with a bow make awesome mounts
-
Doc, the same is true with the proposed youth hunt..bow hunters hating gun hunters getting a shot a their deer, how i long for the good old days of just hunting and having a good time..no big buck media influence... hunt what you want to hunt and the way you choose... every deer is a trophy... and i dont seem to remember any bow vs gun hunters, or youth hunt envy either...

A long time ago a big name hunter said... you have to hunt where the buck you want is known to exist either seen by you or by a reliable source. If you never see a deer over 100 in its tough to get one... I shot a lot of small buck when i started hunting, i made a choice in 200o to hunt for the big ones i get on camera, i now have 4 over 120in with the largest 146 typical and a nontypical at 141. As for your choice to hold out for one fine do it but if you arn't enjoying it then you need to find a new place to hunt or lower your standards... by the way taxdermists do not get rich by mounting big buck, my uncle has mounted thousands of deer most below 100 in. Enjoy your hunt!!

A lost deer with a bow or gun for that matter is not a dead deer... unfortunatly with a gun pulling hair and shocking the tissue more deer will die from gun wounds from infection, than a cut from a broadhead.. if all these deer die from all these wounded deer via archery you would just be picking up dead deer in the woods all over during gun season or seeing skeletons all around whit lots of hair piles.... it doesn't happen.. so alot of bad shots apparently are superficial...at least with bow..
