Innocent till proven guilty.... and ignorance is not an excuse but i really would place more blame on the guide from what i read. He(brock) should of read up on the laws. of course there are some here that i am sure i am unfamiliar with or see broken all the time.. especially use of electronic devices to warn someone a deer is headed your way via radio or cell text or call it is illegal.. (did you know that?? ). I really think laws are broken all the time out of ignorance there are some out there 100 years or more older that arn't enforced unless they want to get you or prove a point!

Good glad your taking advantage of it! Nys want more deer taken and the xbow will allow hunters to do this. why else would the dec push for more use in its extended 5 year plan!
-
an individual can get 7 deer themselves in 1 area. if all tags are bought and 2 dmp signed over. not hard to do its all about putting time in... whats the saying 90% of the deer are taken by 10% of the hunters.

Well it looks as this topic is changed.....

As for cleaning i've done this for years. take an old plunger head an put it in your toilet upside down(yes clean it first) add your dish soap put your barrel in it nipple first . run your patches up and down thru it . when the water gets dirty flush and repeat till clean. the plunger keeps the barrel from scratching the porciline but you can use a piece of a dishmat ect.. don't want to get the little lady mad and have to buy a new toilet.....

Culver... if a deer is stress from over population yes it horns will be smaller than last year. weather it is from chasing doe that keep coming into heat dec, jan, even feb or lack of food from to many mouths to feed . a buck needs to replentish its body from what its lost not only to make it thru the winter but to create horns the following year. of course the body hold preference over the horns so horn size will decrease. This is the whole reason to take doe, it actually helps the buck by shortining the rut thus allowing him to put energy into rebuilding his body and horns for next year. If you only have to run for a week you use up a lot less reserves than if you run for 2 months..

Was probably injured to lose them this early... every time i find them early i seem to find a dead buck without horns in the spring. Usually dont find early true sheds unless there is heavy snow early and it sticks and a lack of food availiable. Lots of apples around this year still on ground and trees and corn and nuts no real snow cover as of yet either...

There are to many hunters in this state for ar not to high grade the herd especially on public land. as for 1 buck rule increasing buck numbers and size .. i think it would be minimal as everyone's wife or grandfathers or kids would buy their liecence just like they use to when you needed 4 people for a doe tag..(anyone else remember that) Joe has the only idea that would possibly work earn a buck or limiting buck tags.. pehaps everone gets a doe tag and bucks are by the current dmp lottery. Of couse i no dmp areas hunting licence would be by lottery only ..... although the state would keep the fee if you were turned down. I know a lot of good bucks are taken in the state every year so maybe work of mouth and qdm will keep shifting the deer hunting community into some form of management without legislation needing to be drafted. Remember if you dont see big bucks where you hunt you need to find another place to hunt if that is what your after! Trying to change a piece of state land into a trophy area will be near impossible unless you can control hunter numbers. (they have great tv shows that show hunters killing big bucks they just forget to tell you it only has 2 hunters on 640 acres. its not the food plots or the other must haves that allow these celebrities to kill big buck but no other hunters !!! Thus allowing most deer to reatch maturity so gee the mid west is teeming with big deer??? lol

Well sticks or pellets of any powder will burn dirtier than loose powder as they do not fill the bore and allow powder rings and unburnt powdergrains to remain in the bore. This is because air gaps due to the stick or pellets not filling the bore creating little mini bombs(like not putting your bullet right against the powder) that decrease acuraccy and like a primer that is to hot push the powder down the barrel before it can ignite creating more fowling powderrings ect. Anyone i know who is a serious black powder shooter will shoot loose powder to eliminate these problems

Its almost time to get out there and fell unwanted/ less desirable trees in the woods again. hingecut a few redmaple and generally improve the hunting by providing winter browse and overall saw timber in the woods. I try to do about 5 acres a year. At least the snow isn't going to be a problem so far. tough to walk thru when its deep leet alone run away from a falling tree...

Hawthorn, Hackberry, Hazelnut
G-Man replied to Suilleabhain's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
back to topic, i have a easier time with chestnut as they are a tree and grow out of deer's eating hight, while the hazelnnut is a bush 10' high if they get a chance to grow.. deer eat mine down all the time.. Hawthorn are like an apple deer browse and need time to mature again sm tree needing sunlight. tought to compare tree's vs shrubs as most shrubs require full sun. -

First i have never seen a road in that good of shape in ny, so that was my first clue... Why is the car never shown or people? i love just a picture of a deer.... can be anywhere... Just like one hanging in a cooler. I love how these things spread

how big of an area are you surveying? one thicket on 20 acres is nothing... 4-5 cameras over a hundered acres maybe... But i agree they do know how to hide!!!

Always before loading !!!

Why didn't you offer him a ride oout to a stand via 4 wheele or tractor. and put him in a good spot. ..i hope he doesnt shoot in to the woods when your walking out because a deer is between you and him... waiting for a tragic end to happen in my opinion...

Just got my Early Xmas ML Barrell - NEED TIPS (Safety, Hunting)
G-Man replied to Meat Manager's topic in Muzzleloaders
Discharge after use or at most a day or two if you can leave outside locked up. you'll save yourself a big head ache later.. I know it will be late to do this year but try loose power and pellets. pellets are fast but your gun might group great with 95 grains tough to get out of 2 50gr pellets. and yes 5 grains can make or brake a group. if you really get into it i think you will shoot loose powder over pellets as the consistance will be much greater. As for techniques this year is warm usually this time of year you can find food and back off of it downa main trail and sit in wait. I always treat every gun as though it is a single shot so walking jumpshooting is all possible with a muzzleloader. And practice reloading you can get extremely fast 4-5 shots well aimed in under a minute with a bit of practice. And Don't forget to clean it!! You'll also find out if you gun like to shoot dirty or clean at the range. mine prefers dirty.the first shot with a clean barrel is high and right but with a dirty barrel i can group a cloverleaf at 75yrds open sights. -
This is why land got posted in the first place.. ever think if you spend the time to find out who owns it contact the person and tell them you tracked them down because you wanted to ask to hunt and you say i saw it wasnt posted but i felt it was my responsibility to ask before going on... you might get permission to hunt it and maybe even post it for yourself. A lot of respect is given to someone who tries to track down an owner than running into them and then asking this always end in no!!!

well yotes were native to ny.. they were called brushwolves by the early settlers and were eradicated. As for the taking of deer i saw a red fox take down a 2 day or less old fawn this past spring so i guess its time to kill them too.. Everyone should buy fur coats for their wives and driv ethe price of fur back up!!! help the economy and the predator population control all in one fell swoop!!!

It happens no shot is a gimme... maybe a nice big peep over the fiber optics will be the ticket!
-
I have NO IDEA where to post this
G-Man replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in General Chit Chat
well the dec didn't seem to concerned as no tickets were issued...and i'm sure the missing cows will be shot... they said you should view them as escapee's but what if they are loose for a year(or an extended time) does that mean they are now resident? And the wonder where pigs and such came from..better off banning all game farms now ....... -
Crazy buck.... main frame 6 with a lot of nasty stuff... i think a lot of big one die and are never found....
-
just think of this you need to be 500' from a building occupied or un occupied so i f you build one near the edge of your property your neighbor cant hunt legaly unless you give him/her permission.... looks like another can of worms is being opened...
