Well i never thought i'd see spring peepers crossing the road on january 24th! Had to stop and verify my eyes wern't playing tricks on me! Can say for sure its global warming or the beginning of the end (it is 2012)as the mayans interpreted calender says. But gheesh..... next it will be cows jumping over the moon!!!

I'm cutting down about 5 acres of maple.. not good for much twisted, multiple trunk things. deer like to browse the tops and the stumps readily sprout creating more browse.

Buy one with the largest platform you can! is nice to have a very comfortable seat but is more important to be able to stand and turn around when the buck of a life time is sneaking behind you! Learned that a chair comfort can cost you a nice deer the hard way!! bigger platform to stand on would of been the ticket!!

Pure coyote, or does he have a little wolf in him?
G-Man replied to NYbuck50's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
the eastern coyote is reported to have come thru canada and interbred with the wolf in low population areas then entered across frozen lakes and river.. they will also breed with dogs when their population is low. they can get big because of this! not the 40lbs western here!! -
make you think you may be on camera at any time!! big brother is watching..... Hello Hal !!!

chickory is ok , very deep rooted and tough to get rid of once you have it established. personally a good clover mix works better for me. if you want a late draw just add some turnip seed to your plot once a year in july it will grow but will not crowd out the clover which chickory can do if planted to heavy. Best clover mix i found is whitetail institute clover. draws all year and i;ve had deer paw thru 2 ft of snow to get to it as well. mow 1 or 2x a year and your set for 4-5 years longer if better prep is done to really kill out the competeing weeds/grasses.

in the spring battery life shouldn't be to big an issue. wildview makes inexpensive cameras that will do the job. i'm partial to my cuddiebacks. the factory reconditioned ones work well and are inexpensive. got a few on sale for under 80$ each.

where is here? A local sportshop/sportsman club might be a good place to start. make a few friends. find some state land and start walking it now. get some scouting in.. sit for a hr or two along a good looking trail , see and stalk deer now..all this will help you in the regular season. Is there a park near you that is un huntable that has deer in it? spot deer there get use to looking for a part of a deer in the trees in the park. A lot of cities have deer in their parks....also a grat place to blow a grunt and see what/how a deer reacts to it.

lost from hunting season and not recovered?? poaching usually results in some meat/horns taken.. looks more like an inexperianced / maybe slob hunter losing a recovererable deer.
-
Yep..you should see the amount in the cornfield now..you wouldn't think we took 16 deer this season..by what the tracks show...

buckwheat planted in july, and oats planted in july so that the heads go to seed in october. nothing draws better for fall birds Oats planted with clover is a good dual purpose plot for spring and fall. Spring a good clover plot or chop down a cornfield that was left standing thru winter.(its not bating choping/brushhogging down an old cornfield but its as close as you can get). if there is any corn left in it. tried sorgum but they don't seem to know what it is untill planted for a year or two, chufa will grow here but again they don't know what it is so you need to disk it to bring it to the surface so they will peck at it for a year or two till they realize they like it..
