The food plotting is part of qdm as way to increase the heath of the herd as well as enhance the hunters experiance. If you don't food plot will deer survive..yes. but for deer to reach its potential it need top quality food, most of this can be done thru natural browse, but if the population is high food plots in areas where farms have gone extinct (if you will) can and do increse body weights, fawn survival, milk production , and yes antler growth. For those of you that hunt meat and could care less about horns..a heathier deer will weigh more and give you more meat!!! As an overall plan qdm is great, when only parts of it are isolated (anter size, food plot attracting) the biggest problem qdm faces is most uninformed hunters look at as trophy deer management. I feel the group qdma should change its name and try to reeducate the hunting public as to its true intentions.

Well the state is trying to get a handel on the population by going to a dmp system vs either sex tags.. Our poaching fines / penalties are a joke. As for a 1 buck limit i like having a chance of gettin a buck with bow and gun or muzzleloader. How many actually get 2 buck a year? A lot of years my "buck"bowtag is unfilled. Pa. has adoped ar's but the main reason behind it was to increase doe take.. their population was way to high ...so guess what if you can't shoot a buck because its not big enough and you want meat you shoot a doe... the by product of this is the buck live for another year. Ny is trying the same idea without ar's via dmp's given out to the guys that want them instead of limiting them because there are a bunch of either sex tags out there they must take into account.....hence the change they want next year... LIke i said before get the big buck idea out of your head and you'll start to understand what qdm was started as ..not as it is though of now...

self defence your shot will down its throat, or front of chest... ususally they will run the other direction .... being close or afraid of them is not self defence...

i've seen some close to 40 lbs usually smaller... lynx get even bigger..The adult bobcat is 47.5 to 125 cm (18.7 to 49 in) long from the head to the base of the tail, averaging 82.7 cm (32.6 in); the stubby tail adds 9 to 20 cm (3.5 to 7.9 in) [12] and, due to its "bobbed" appearance, it gives the species its name.[15][16][17][18] An adult stands about 30 to 60 cm (12 to 24 in) at the shoulders.[10][19] Adult males can range in weight from 6.4 to 18.3 kg (14 to 40 lb), with an average of 9.6 kg (21 lb); females at 4.1 to 15.3 kg (9.0 to 34 lb), with an average of 6.8 kg (15 lb).[20] The largest bobcat accurately measured on record weighed 22.2 kg (49 lb), although there are unverified reports of them reaching 27 kg (60 lb).

LOL!! Its a bobcat!! if it was'nt ir you would see the spots better although you can see them on the one leg pretty good and the black tipped bobbed tail, congrats on the cat!! i'm still waiting for one to appear on mine i know they are around just havent been lucky enought to catch one!

Steve, i think you are talking about trophy management although most qdm'ers think this is qdm its not.. we took 11 buck and 10 doe off my property last year. 5 were yearling buck. I do not put antler restrictions on my property ... if your happy with it shoot it and tag it just don't complain if someone gets something bigger..

Best of luck making the sausage..the only drawback to freezing and grinding this way is you will be making lots of small batches of sausage and usuing it up ..rather than one big one but if you have the time to do it later than trying to do it at camp it will be worth it!! the benifit is without the extra pork n fat added(pork fat doesnt freeze solid and you only can keep it for about 6 months before it taints your meat) to the meat venison will freeze for a long time without spoiling!! so you can stretch your venison enjoyment throughout the year..

I tend to make my boned out meat into reasonable sized pieces and then partially thaw grind and use, this way im not thawing out 40 lbs at a time.. usually 5 to 10 lbs chunks work best for me. making sausage you would want to make reasonable sized batches rather than a large batch and re freeze.. never a good idea to refreeze maet unless its been cooked... but yes the shoulder i just thawed was from a buck i took nov 13 th last year. was warm that day and i didn't have a lot of time to cut and grind it as i had to go to work so i quarted out the shoulders and froze, and boned the rest into about 10lbs portions.. all total i have 65 lbs frozen in about 10 lbs chunks. that i will use for jerky and chili this bow season. Just make sure you wrap it as you would steaks ect. freezer burn loves exposed meat...

welcome!! i'm originally from lancaster but moved to the southern tier as development moved in...

I don't allow it on my property at all. the guys bring a case with them and have one or two after dinner ..end of season there are always some left... they wait to long for season to get here to get drunk and not hunt!!!
-
Do it all the time!! I usually partially freeze my meat before i grind it. matter of fact i just ground up a shoulder Partially thawed i quartered and froze lastyear (alot faster than boning it all and grinding it all whan short on time) to make jerky for opening day!! just use a smaller plate when frozen or partially frozen. larger if fresh(never froze)

Qdm... a lot of talk about older bucks here....not much about habitat, balancing numbers(sex ratio). the problem with qdm as a moniker is that it is equated with trophy management which in my opinion is all i see in this thread so far..... Older bucks are a part of it unfortunatly the are the only part that seems to get focused on. How about the fact that my yearling deer gained almost 15lbs dressed weight on average since i started in 1995.or that 2 year olds are up almost 40lbs. or that my buck to doe ration is almost 1-2,5. Just the fact everytime i go in the woods i see a buck! .... get off the older big buck thinking and improve your overall herd health!!!

there are books out there, but a trip to the local historial museum may be in order some one there might be able to help you.

If you know it is there its probably concidered baiting. Like a goose hunter hunting a field with spilled grain.... if you acted dumb probably nothing would be said. Since you posed here your screwed.........

your gun might like a dirty bore you either need to clean between everyshot to sight in clean or sight in with a dirty barrel and definatly buy some new powder!! Did you bore site it at all after tighting mounts?
