Last year we could of taken 4 during opening week of gun but season was closed. Getting a lot of damage from them the last 2 years. looking forward to removing a few this year i hope

I've never made a mock scrape but have an apple tree that has had and still has a scrape under it for the past 10 years. its used year round and is a favorite spot for one of my game cameras.

oats or winter wheat, with red clover. still time for turnips. oats will be a quick draw for deer,the winter wheat will make it thru the winter and give you a bonus spring plot for turkey. putting red clover will grow into next spring and when plowed under will boost nitrogen levels for your next plot.

Yes 2 banded birds were taken at my place... and one by my neigbor his had a 100$ band on it.. population is down a bit due to poor nesting last few years.

some turkey traping photos from the study done a few years ago at my property banded 12 jakes, 2 bearded hens and 4 jennies.

For those of you shot at..did you press charges? grows you have your own problems but could go to a higher agency. really your talking about attempted murder. most shot at stories are in line of fire, mistaken identity, or truly accidental..it happens and probably continue to happen as long as there is more than 1 person hunting/shooting at any given time.

i think the seasons have shifted more than global warming, i mean our calender is just something slapped on time by man, nature is always changing..

Great in theory, problem is there would be 3 guys that get their deer and 997 that don't . while you and i might be willing to go game less for a season or two the vast majority of the other 997 wont be happy. managing the herd is more about hunter contentment than actual herd health age structure. This is the problem with the surveys of would you like to see older deer to which everyone says yes but they never ask the question would you be willing to forgo a buck harvest for 2-4 years to accomplish this. In this thought close antlered harves for 2 years..no ar's involved, older more mature bucks would be the result and we could harvest does to satisfy meat need/wants. but it will never happen.....

I try to get all my stands up and lanes trimmed by the 1st week of september and then stay out of the woods till the bow opener. This is a large undertaking as there are 30 plus stands across almost 300 acres. Yes there are stands for every wind direction,bow only.and gun only. Got sick of moving stands during season and after a few dozen years the stand collection has grown...

This is why passing up little rack bucks doesn't stockpile big bucks on a property. I read somewhere that 150 acres may have 1 big buck on it 140in plus. It then might have 2 or 3 fringe bucks 100 to 140 in if it is prime habitat. So the average landowner 50acres has a limited chance at his big buck anyway. Figuring 4 or more hunters per 50 acres..someone is going home empty handed.

I alway like the phrase i was shot at..really? maybe they shot in your direction or near you....shot at would constitute a criminial violation of attempted murder... i have been close enought to several slugs to hear them whistling by but have never been diliberatly shot at... which envolved yelling what the f*%$ and see the hunter head the other way quickly. I would really hate to think of someone shooting at me directly on purpose. of course if i did that to someone i'm pretty sure i would hit them.

it doesnt say what dna tests were done or if it was an exact match. they can do a dna test on a human that shows that your of scandanivian decent, or french and even narrow it down to a specfic area of a country. so the cat was genetically related to cats from from south dakota. doesn't mean it walked... the generalization on dna test makes it sound all scientific and beyond doubt but the evidence isnt complete...... just like they can test a lion in a zoo and say it originally came from a part of africa even though its been born raised and will die in the zoo.

Hmmm....animal lover on vacation in south dakota finds cute cuddly kitten..brings it home to conneticut.where it grows up gets let go because its to big...gets hit dna test shows genitc match to group in south dakota...so it must of walked..just like the pythons swam to floridia....

if you have net flix try to find bowhunting october whitetails no 1 and no 2... its a great informative video and will give you ideas for the northeast in general.

We were doing a deer drive and we have a standing rule that the people on stand stay in the stand untill all the walkers are out of the woods.as the woods are thik and deer will double back presenting a walker with a shot 9 out of ten times. Well one guy saw some deer and got out of his stand after taking off the orange vest we lent him to go see if he could sneek up on them. Deer were between the walkers and him..fortunatly the walker saw something wasn't right and didn't shoot..boy did he yell at that guy!! Result he no longer is welcome to hunt.
