In my experiance, bow hunters will take a buck over a doe, face it state wide for the number of bow hunters the take is small. The x-bow will bring more gun hunters into bow hunting where the dec hopes to have more doe taken. They are mandated to control theh herd not make hunters happy! As for extending the bow season "to bring more weapons into the season" so be it as long as there is still a bow season, i personally would like to see a split season, open bow oct 1, run for 2 weeks close it for a week do x-bow or muzzle/kids hunt re open bow for 2 weeks close it for a week then 2-3 weeks of gun followed by another weeks closure then 2 weeks late bow /muzzle. ... I still wonder how they get their numbers for allocating doe tags.... and see no changes proposed to get a better way to find out.

I used a 500 for my first 15 deer, with a bird barrel with improved cylinder, and with the buck barrel. it was and still is a reliable gun for deer, took a lot of grouse, rabbit with it as well. yes the forarm rattles but it has a dual slide arm allowing you to jack out a shell relabilly. I was able to pass this gun to a friend who had taken his first 6 deer with it and he has just passed it down to his son for this year. Yes there are more solid guns built out there that are machined vs stamped but you'll pay a lot more for them for the same relability, If its what fits your budjet it will serve you well. if you one day can move up to browning, top of the line remington,or any other top gun manufacture you will look back fondly on your "beater mossberg"!! Inexpensive gun yes..cheap no!!

Yellow Jackets! Be careful!!
G-Man replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
a good fogger thown into those 1000 or so will do them in.. so will gas and a thrown torch. Must be a pretty good hive! Best stuff to use if you can find it is powdered sevin(fruit tree spray) kill bees/jackets from inside the nest one carries it in to the hive via being attached to the micro hairs on its body and the whole thing will be dead in a day! -
geno buy an ac inverter for your car you already have a motor.... cheap and will give you power...

Hate to say it but this is why a seperate game commission with an ammendment to the state constitution for right to hunt/fish is needed...take the bozo law makers out of the equasion!!

I think any yardage limit is not based on anything but your own skill, i know a few recurve and longbow shooters that can shoot 80+ yards breaking a 8 in diameter baloon everytime. a bow compound/recurve/longbow is strictly limited to killing distance by energy tranfered to an animal at range. most will kill at 100+yards. the human skill factor is what limits most hunters to a range of 25 or 40 yards. add in brush/limbs. and you'll get an effective hunting range for yourself. Same hold true for rifle/shotgun the rounds are capable of killing at a lot greater ranges than ones personal ability will allow for. that said. Figuring out a mature deer takes time! and a lot of it! Weather you learn to tell a mature deer's track and follow it, or pattern it and hang stands to intercept them. The time you spend develops the skills that make you a top hunter! I've never seen a consistant "big buck" hunter that spends only weekends in the woods or even 1-2 weeks a year. Unfortunatly for most of us Time a limiting factor in our ability to acquire the nessary skills to reach the next level that we all want to be at.

Yellow Jackets! Be careful!!
G-Man replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
ground bees are different ,yellow jackets are a type of wasp, yes they build papernests (hives) in the ground. they usually exploit a dry crack or mouse burrow to start out. yes getting stung hurts like a son of a bitch!! -
I do this with out needing 3000 pics..just keep tabs on where the deer is positiond in the field, i then move the camera in the direction it seems to have come from ..find the entrance trail, reset the camera, a quick scouting job, maybe put the cam back up the trail futher to see if you can get to a staging area where you get good daylight pics and set a stand. I do have a great series of 25 pics at 30 sec intervals of deer eating apples. if you click thru them fast enough it looks like one of the old flip movies you'ld draw in the corner of a notebook. apples just keep dissapearing!!
