  1. thats a made for a roller pump for pto, and the 3 way spray valve is over 300$ let alone the take is about 300$ as well...i buy it in a second. if the pto pump is there its truly a steal!!!
  2. Well i usually try to do my turnips in the beginning / middle of july as we seem to get a little more rain then.. if i wait to end of july/beginning of august they just don't seem to get that good jump in growing.. Of course this year it rains everyday.... The tops are what they want first anyway i've had them eating them in august and sept well before season and a frost for that matter.
  3. You'll be amazed how much natural regeneration will occur when light can reach the forest floor, nuts that have lain dormant for years sprout everywhere!! Shagbark is the sweetest hickory nut out there, your lucky to have them, by your type of trees it seems like a semi lowland. If you decide to go with a forester tell him your looking for wildlife management first and timber second. If timber harvest is going to happen you can work reseeding logging roads and landings in to the contract to be seeded with your choice of seed is even possible! Great way to make some money and get some heavy equipment work done as well! once the heavy stuff is done its a lot easier to maintain and replant in the future. I have almost 4 acres of logging road in white clover.. planted and done at no expence to me.
  4. I'll take the deer shot with a 45-70 over any deer shot with a high power rifle...way to much damage from a 300win mag. 45-70 nice 45 cal hole in and out..and deer usually drops in its tracks.
  5. I believe some state parks have setbacks from road requirements.
  6. You are what you eat and less developed muscles are more tender than the old well defined and used ones... just if you shoot one (sm deer) butcher it yourself..them seem to charge the same no matter what size it is...
  7. If you can see further than 75 yards cut the big trees!! the exception would be trees thst produce every year, or that tend to have exceptional crops . leave them! get to know what kind of hickory you have pig nut? shagbark? bitternut? the preference in food choice for game is dramatic!! what is the underbrush? oak/maple seedlings? leave em alone... hop hornbeam ? dogwood? beech? cut it down. more info is needed to do proper wildlife management.wha tgame are you looking for??. get a good tree book!! in general the thicker the better for big buck... a good forester can do wildlife management as well as timber management.
  8. Well all the party's are the 3rd here including the towns fireworks.. so the 4th will be spent recovering...
  9. As a enginer..please don't walk across the bridge..i'd hate to see you or you family running over uneven ballast/ties for your life. it would be bad for you but think of how i would feel needing over a mile to stop if i killed one of your loved ones....
  10. Pat, i use to have a lot of forest damage from to many deer. nothing growing from forest to 6ft plus. We hammer the doe here trying to take at least 10 a year starting in 95'. The hunting has only gotten better!! More and bigger bucks! We focus on adult doe with twin buttonbuck fawns..no mom to chase them away and they stay for a year or two. even though these are sm bucks they make you feel good sitting in a tree seeing 4-5 different bucks per sit. The older maturebucks come in to breed our doe and we get lucky and harvest a few.. Point is you removing nuisence deer gives you the meat you want to fill the freezer and lets you hunt longer for the one you want!! We've taken over 293 deer off my place since 93' 79 of those were antlered bucks. No matter how many we shoot there are always more to replace them, as deer move to better habitat, from lesser. Do the farmer and yourself the favor!!
  11. Had a friend shoot one a few years ago during late muzzleloader(you could still make out the spots) weighed 27lbs, would of never survived the winter. He says it Was the best meat he ever had... though we tease him it was only a sandwich..... got about 10lbs off it.
  12. Its been my experiance that most property is posted because the owner wants to know who is on their property and when. I have gained access to a lot of posted land by asking well in advance of season and also asking what times/areas i can be in. I have one piece of property i can hunt that the owner only hunts opening weekend and i am not allowed then..the rest of the season its mine! Another i am not allowed in a 5 acre area around the house/barns ever. Another i have a certain spot to park in. Yes there have been rejections and they have the right to do that.
  13. Yes it would be nice if kids could do what we did when we were young walk around with a bb-gun then a .22 plinking. But todays kids grow up in subdivisions where a neighbor will call the cops if a black squirtgun is seen. Opening a youth hunt gives the kids the oppurtunity to get out of their enviroment and have an opportunity to harvest game that maybe more relaxed. They are not out there by themselves(nys law under 16 accopmanied by adult) This is the best the state can do. The days of wandering behind the houses plinking are gone for most. If you live where your kids can do this Great i'm sure they are out there and are hooked on hunting already! For those that are'nt this is another way to help them get hooked. The turkey youth hunt has made a few hunters i know of and as of last year they are hunting deer as well!
  14. Chevy, I don't see where anything is taken from bow season...they want to give us two weeks additional with this proposal...I am kind of sick of the conspericy theories about how a youth hunt will kill the season,or even an doe only muzzleloader 4 day...Its never been done and all the worries and faults found are just conjecture try it we might like it...
  15. the early season muzzleloader season would be anterless only and as needed in high deer population areas.... so i don't see some one shhoting a nice buck with an arrow in it before it expires....
  16. Isn't the modivation for all hunting to kill game (hopefully as quickly as possible) So isn't creating a foodplot to attract game smart hunting? yes you don't have to do it,but doesn't it make sence to put in the energy and time when you you have extra?(summer/spring) than it is to just use energy walking thru areas stalking hoping you find what your looking for? Who is actually a more dedicated hunter the one that puts in 20 hrs preparing an ambush spot or the one that puts in 20 hours walking around? Seems the same to me.... Nothing to question they both want their game just go about it using different methods. Its like calling a elevated stand hunter a cheater because he doesn't walk or hunt from the ground.
  17. As for gun allowed out there with people in camo....i see it all the time during regular gun season guys doing drives wearing full camo..they seem to survive with a lot more guns in the woods. If your that worried about it put on an orange hat or tie a orange ribbon around the tree your in. My neighbor wears full camo all the time he's made it to 74 hunting public land. Not that i agree with it some orange/hi viis yellow or green should be mandatory for all hunters in my opinion.
  18. Great pics!! looks like they're ready to leave at anytime! hope you get them before mom moves them!
  19. Used maybe the way to go, But check the bargain sales at cabellas and bass pro..leftystuff is usualy found there and great deals. i know i got a lot of left handed stuff that way!!
  20. If I read it right the youth hunt is a gun hunt(didn't specify if muzzleloder or rifle/shotgun) and bow would remain open for everyone at that time.)
  21. Sometimes you have to prod the cattle a little.... : besides its slow this time of year...just a little fuel for the fire... ;D
  22. Somewhere by where your hunting area is a farm..maybe old and overgrown but its there..and probably some appletrees are left from it...so walking thru the big woods you stumble upon this old orchard realise that its a good place for deer and hunt there! Is it ok because you didn't plant it? maybe it wasn't planted for a food plot but thats what it is now. natural food source definatly not, but you hunt it without question. so because a food plot is new and you know why it was planted it now not ethical? hunting on a trail that leads to a farmer's alfalfa field 3 miles away..any different? Or trails to a ceder swamp in late season? Identifying the main food in an area is a great way to hunt game! Habitat manipulation is what man does best.. making trails for ease of access to an area, logging, making a clearing to put up a cabin/camper, all of this creates a better habitat for deer! so even if nothing is planted the deer will move in and use theis new edge..isnt that another form of a food plot? If sitting over a field isn't for you fine, if you feel better going back deep in the woods hunting a trail to the same field makes you feel better about yourself that fine as well.. Everyone is entitled to their opinion just dont force it upon others.. legal is legal if we agree with it or not....
