Nice buck, maybe 4 1/2 def 3 1/2. guessing him around low/mid 120's after velvet peels....

274 acres private property almost all wooded, 10 perm stands, over 30 hang on,5 ladder,1 box blind more to be built as younger hunters are coming along.I do not allow wandering around(still hunting/scouting) when everyone is out (always safer to know where everyone is with lots of hunters in woods even if they are 300 yards away) 9 adult hunters for bow(mostly weekends)usually 2 during week. 10 hunters for opening day gun then varies down to 1 me . 12+ for muzzloader only time we do drives to get enough doe off property. No ATV'S allowed for any reason, use a tractor to retrive deer in tough areas and older guys get first choice of stands . Expect an increase in hunters next few years as friends sons/daughters are getting old enough to hunt and the 12 year olds are taggin along already for nice weather sits with dad, along with 4 nephews in the next few years..of course the older guys/dads seem to hunt less and less as the kids take over.....

good soft mast here (region 9) but hard mast took a hit in the drought. acorns, and hickory were dropping due to lack of rain. the few american chestnuts i have are looking like they will have a decent crop, but the game gets after them fast and usually get em cleaned up before bow season starts..(man i hope they open bow oct 1 next year)

you can add more nitrogen, urea works best for me 45-0-0. the clover will put quite a bit into the soil , especially that patched you tilled under. right now your in a wait and see mode....

they caught a few poachers in the area a few ..well maybe more than that now(time flies by it seems) using bows and they were in "prestegious hunting clubs" antlers have become an obsession for way to many people and temptation seems to override good judgement.. i thinks is just nice to see em get big, as for the sheds they are meaningless to me unless you can hunt there its like picking them up off the floor in a zoo. its the one thing i wish nys would change about the record book nybbc keeps..they should be from a huntable area only.

i think i could hit a few claybirds with that

it will either fire or won't. either way your in for a rough cleaning. ive done this before as well :-[

non-hunting area ...just hope it makes it to die of old age..instead of a poacher getting him

-
unfortunately i think it happens a lot more than we find out about.... thats why its important to put pics out there so they can hopefully get caught...

my snaring and fishing skills would increase tremendously!!

nope west seneca..just a nice buck to look at,though it might cross into a huntable area.... but i'd place bets on him dissapearing and showing up in some big buck contest..thats why its nice to post a pic so they can catch the sob that ends up doing it always seems to happen when there is a nice buck around there....

Had buck around for 8 1/2 years and got him in 2000. had sheds from him going back to spring of 94' figured him to be 7 1/2 or 8 1/2 when i got him he was on the decline horn wise.. had a friend at a friend at a lab cut a tooth for aging and he said it was 8 1/2. Amazing how a wild deer can hide so well for years in high pressure areas.

as soon as pears drop the deer come and get them..

How many deer does your family consume per year?
G-Man replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
well it depends how much jerky i feel like making. some years i've gone thru 7 most years 4. the jerky has become a big hit with my neighbors and frinds and i find im making almost 100lbs a year now.the usual 4.. at least 1 for steaks and roasts, 1 for summer sausage,1 for jerky,,1 for hot dogs breakfast sausage, peperioni and ground , in general. -
Well i have 2 i picked up cheap. the day photos are great not a fan of ir in general. though you will need to put it on an area where the deer will hang out for a while. they are in my opinion not a good trail cam. sensor is to slow. fine for feeding areas/scrapes but across a trail ill use my cuddiebacks. i did an experiment and put one on the same tree as a cuddieback. got 2-3x more pics from cuddieback. they are a great exerimental cam for trying in a place where you are afraid to put a real good cam. i use mine on a road crossing as the flash wont give it away and the deer tend to hold for a few seconds before crossing the road. i dont like that if a sd cards not in it it will not tranfer photos to it when inserted, must take camera out and plug directy into computer to view and erase photos. xtra card with me sometimes i forget to bring an extra card with me and i dont want to run back out right away to put one back in. but it does have a good internal memory for 80 pictures.
