    Birds

my feeders are on a ten ft raised deck, never had a problem with the bears before this year was a first. they must of got mad i took down the feeders because they proceded to chew up my 3d archery target deer, and turkey...i put those away after i found them in the woods and bought a 4x4 block which then then proceded to chew up and drag in the woods... guess i am taking up bear hunting next fall

I try to feed em year round but a bear interupted the schedule this fall now that they are hybernating the feeders are back up and my fethered friends are happy!
  4. this was 4-24-2009 , camera takes a picture then a video... would of missed a lot just jooking at the picture...
  5. A video that i never can see to many times how_many_buck.AVI
  6. I have several cuddieback cameras but all have whiteflash, my friend liked my cam pis but decided to go with ir model, nothing but software issues, finially sold his ir and went with flash. The ir seem to make a hum while warming the bulbs if you will, i learned to avoid issues with the visiable flash by placing the camera higher than normal(it reduces some of its range but i can consistantly get pictures of bigger bucks at the location many times just a minute or two apart. i believe they think it is lightning and they see that a lot from above, just don't seem to like it at eye level.
  7. I think thats why a lot of hunters have given up or don't believe in QDM, they plant some food plots and ...no big bucks!! Really the biggest thing for big bucks is age.... Our biggest problem in wny is lots of hunters and small properties, mid-west average fam farmsize 400-800 acres, west and canada sm.farm or ranch 20,000 acres. new york ..50 acres ? Tough to get bucks some age when they wander over property lines, and no mater what you try to say or do there are and will always be hunters that only have a day or two to hunt and are happy with a year 1/2 buck. There is a difference in managing a deer herd for health/population, and trophy...unfortunatly most hunters seem to just want trophy. Give deer some place to hide and grow old, and you'll see what i mean.
  8. Sorry i don't have any info for your area, although i can say make sure you get the subsurface/mineral rights with any property you buy.

    Elk in 3H

There is no protection or listing for elk in new york as per the rocky mt. elk foundation. part of the problem they are dealing with trying to get the state to reintroduce them..as of now you can shoot.

    Elk in 3H

And mountain lions are listed by the dec as endangered in nys so no shooting them

    Elk in 3H

My understanding is if they are not native to ny and/or not protected by a season ex. woodchucks, hogs they are fair game. That is why moose were given protection when the dec felt there was a viable population present.
  12. Its a sad thing collapse of civilization as we know it....watching from the inside.
  13. Glad it wasn't serious! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
  14. Lets see an indian bow was able to kill a deer at about 15 yrds max, they didn't have scent control, gps, modern Camo or any other modern tech yet they were able to get close enough to their game to kill it.Ever kill a turkey with a bow without using camo and specialized broadhead Or the organised huge drives to herd animals towards water of a cliff allowing for easy dispatching. I would put them against any of the true hunters out there, who could make their own bow, points, knives, and use every bit of the animal today?? yeah we don't have to but we lack the nessary skills for most of us to even attempt it! Remember Pope and Young had to learn how to shoot and hunt effectivly from an indian!! Yes they hunted for food, not opportunists (they would tak emultiple game if it presented itself ) but they were hunters highly skilled first and for most!!

    Elk in 3H

Most elk that escape from game farms have ear tags.. My friend had a raghorn bull walk by his treestand in humphery ny last bow season no ear tags.... Maybe they tore out but at 15 yards he believes he would of been able to see ripped ears. I remember when moose sighttings were few and far between.now we have a few residents thanks to our neighboring state., same is probably happining with pa. bad part is they aren't protected in ny so i guess you can shoot any you see.....

    CVA?

I have a cva kentucky long rifle, and a pistol and would and have shot against nef,tc, and modern rifles and they are both awesome shooters. the key is to take the time and find what your gun likes to shoot, my long rifle likes 80 grains if powder with a patched roundball, my pistol i use 50 grains with a patched ball. I also have a N.E.F. that shoots 95 grains of powder with a 240 grain xtp sabot. My tc encore shoots 120 grains with a powerbelt bullet. my knight pistol shoots 55 grains with a 250 grain flatnosed 45 cal sabot. I've taken deer with all of these guns and loads. almost all guns shoot well if you find the right combination that works!
  17. Thanks! we've had a few pieball doe around, and i have a trail cam pic of a different piebal buck that we've never seen(4 years ago) I've passed on a pieball doe .5 or six years ago..couldn't see a reason to shoot it had a big white patch on its side, would of had to do a whole body mount to see it.. this one came out and it was over without even thinking about it..actually my first thought after shooting was well i guess i better mount it.
  18. I can deal with the snow... but the thing i hate the most is leaving in the dark to go to work and coming home when its dark...if the daylight lasted longer it wouldn't be so bad at least i might be able to slip a sm. game hunt in! ;D
  19. Did you open it up my understanding is that there are "guy parts" ususally underdeveloped inside thus causing the antlers? just courious...
  20. I ran into that situation, i was concentrating an a really nice eight when this guy walked out....Body and Mind went into automation with a good result! It proudly sits with my mounts and routinely gets more compliments than my biggest buck to date!
  21. Mr vjp, good idea if you can get ahold of one before the deer spoils, who knows with out budjet cut backs if you'll be able to find any at all.......
  22. Well i work back and forth to Ohio, and have met several hunters who use the bow and/or crossbow the ones that use both prefer the compoundbow for the added range and quietness, they tell me that crossbows when the went legal there flew off the shelves but now you can pick em up cheap second hand seems the 100yrd shot didn't pan out for the guys that though bow hunting would be easy and most guys that have them use both depending on the habitat/time they have to hunt. Just what i've been told..
