They call it combat fishing for a reason. Make sure you have glasses. Protect your eyes.

First time I havent picked. Zukes and yellow squash will get pulled this weekend . They are done . Tomatoes are ripening quick. Might start a batch of sauce this weekend . Have some peppers turning red . Tons of green peppers. Thinking stuffed peppers for supper this weekend. Yesterday I was picking and a young couple and there children were riding bikes . When they came back down the hill I stood out near the road and stopped them . Told them they needed to charge a tax for riding my road . Handed them a big bag of squash and cucumbers. Wife was so confused .. husband just laughed he got it . Thanked me . Then they told me to expect some pumpkins soon as they had planted for the kids and had way more than expected .

As we say at work... where can you be wrong 50% and still keep your job ... management and meteorology. Never trust the weather forecast they can't predict night and day . I will water unless I see rain with my own eyes.

Up an at um Boys! 5:30 AM watering the garden . Going to have a cup of coffee now and then its time to pick ... again.

I just tell the wife its estrogen induced hearing loss. Her chair sits on my left and thats my bad ear.
-
Yup protect it or lose it . I have been wearing muffs and plugs during target practice . At work its ear plugs and muffs. Hearing has shifted enough its now an osha recordable . 40 years of working in garages and factory. I wear muffs on the tractor and weed wacking. Plugs while running chain saw. Tinnitus since my 30s.

Always hunt into the wind . When you think you were still long enough count to a hundred slow then move. When you stop always stop near a tree for cover and a shooting rest.

Daisy bb gun when I was 4. Shot the heads off alot of dandelions in the back yard. Crossman 760 pump when I was 10 . Use to practice shooting acorns off the tree in gramps back yard . Killed a pheasant with the 760 while stalking chipmunks down along the swamp edge. I was probably 11. Gramps was impressed but not real happy. I do remember him saying that it was nice eating bird as it had no shot to pick around . Head shot . Bet I shot a million bb's and pellets through thos guns .

Leftovers from yesterday's haul 2 grocery bags to the neighbors and 2 more bags to people that were walking the neighborhood not shown .

Damn i missed your post . I stopped at my LGS yesterday and asked about the new gun rules and ammo background check and he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't have any answers. Told me he had been on the phone trying to find information and he is as lost as he was before he started. He recommended joining SCOPE. Said he got more info there than any where else but still didn't amount to much because the state doesn't have a clue either.

Could be . I'm up at 430 AM and out the door 5 :30 AM . Dont have time to water in the AM.
-
I have 35 Butternut squash in the garden but they haven't turned yet . Plants are failing fast . Not even sure what I should do with them .
-
Well between the drought... bugs and powdery mildew virus, my garden is going down hill fast .I'm watering every night and the plants keep shrinking. Tomatoes are showing signs of stress. Squash may last another week or two. Cucumbers are coming on hard but the plants are showing alot of stress and bug damage. I have sprayed 3 times but the flea Beatles and cucumber Beatles keep coming back. I have watered more this year than ever before . Being I'm on a well I know I can't keep this up. Tempted to pull squash and cucumbers and concentrate on saving my tomatoes peppers and bruslesprouts.

Back in the 80s when I was a teen I dated a girl whose father was about as close to a mountain man you could meet in the north east . He hunted the flintlock season in PA. He hunted in buckskin a long stocking cap and a moccasin type boot . All leather and laced up to his knees. He use to make flinlocks as a side job. Made his own knives and clothing . He would kill big bucks in deep snow wearing this outfit. I was impressed with how he hunted this way . I thought he was crazy but impressed. His daughter was batchit crazy too ...

Son is looking for federal fusion lite in 308 . Do to a disability occurrence while serving in the army he has to be very careful how much stress he puts on his shoulder. 2 years ago he bought a 308 and shot up the 2 boxes of reduced recoil I had purchased for my 308 encore pistol. He has 5 rounds left . Looking for a couple boxes for him . He is hoping to get out this year . Last year he was layed low by his 3rd surgery and didn't get out at all .

My buddy had a liberty safe. The only thing he didn't like about it was the lip on the bottom . As the floor of the safe was lower than the door opening he would occasionally bump the stocks on his guns moving them in and out. He was pretty pissed when he dinged the fox double.

Uh-huh machete time .

Straw will help amend the soil and hold moisture in the soil as it breaks down . In the spring I have a dump trailer of horse manure dumped on the garden and till that in in late April or early May.
-
Try mulching over the plastic with straw next year. The black fabric holds heat, dries out the plants . Mulching with a good clean straw holds the moisture and reflects the heat. My garden is 30 × 50 takes 8 large bails of straw. Oat and wheat straw is best. Rye straw will hold more seeds and as we know rye will grow on a brick . Till the straw after you remove the plastic and lyme in the fall for the following year. Just a suggestion.

Hard pass . If you didnt have a boat ... maybe. Wanted a retirement project maybe.. Going to take alot of money and time to make that worth $ 1500 bucks depending on getting the motor to run and the trailer .
