  1. That's ok Pygmy ... you always live up to our low expectations...
  2. I learned along time ago you almost never always have the right fly. And I hate paying $2.00 -$4.00 for a fly I can make for .50 cents. I'm far from organized. I just carry a lot of flies. Nothing worse than watching big trout rising and having nothing in your box they will take .

    Hatch boxes

I carry to many fly boxes .... streamer box ,midge box, caddis box ,nymph box ,dry box . I also carry what I refer to as a hatch box . So right now I carry a hendrickson box . In it will be light ,dark, wet fly ,emerger ,nymph . All representing hendricksons. In late may I will have a box with gray fox ,march browns green drakes coffen flies , iso . July its larger golden drakes yellow drakes brown drakes . Anybody else keep hatch boxes ?
  4. Best way to clean a Turkey is to let someone else do it ... theres a reason they call them fowl....
  5. A friend of mine from Middleport found out his daughter and family all have it . He hasn't been near them except at the porch to drop of prescriptions. He and his wife were told to quarantine for 2 weeks .
  6. Well got out and did a little fly fishing friday . Arrived on the river and found a small army where I intended to fish . Sat and watched the water . No bugs hatching yet. Looked up stream nobody fishing . But I did see a splashy rise . Hopped out and walked up to investigate . A pod of 9 inch stockers cruising the bank . About gave up when I glimpsed a larger trout rise up off the bottom and sink back down . I had to give him a go . Went back to the truck put on waders grabbed the rod . Hit the bank and watched for my target. Nothing but the little guys. No bugs hatching so I opted for a black nosed dace. Two casts in and phone rings. It's the one and only Pygmy... he is fishing a mile down stream from me . He graciously invites me to join him . I agree to meet up in a bit . But first I have to try this trout again. Casting acrossed and swinging down through the hole I get a solid hit on a decent trout . Little tussle on the 3 wt and I get him to shore I pack it in and head down stream to meet up with Pygmy. Arriving at the location I find Pygmy has all the fish in the stream corralled up in front of him on the far bank . I drop in above him and proceed to cast repeatedly into the barren waters whipping in to a froth to no avail. I waded to shore and watched pygmy tease and torture the poor trout by repeatedly casting to them and denying them the opportunity to strike . By this time the hendrickson hatch is in full swing. Pygmy decides to take a break and allows me a shot . I step in and make pass after pass but no takers . Light hendrickson ... dark hendrickson... pale evening dun.. even a nymph . Nothing. Finally I see a smaller mayfly on the water.... it's a masking hatch .... overcast day ... must be bwo.. I put on an snow shoe emerger bwo. 3 cast I managed a hit Pygmy was very upset that I would injure that poor fish by actually hooking it when I could have missed the hook set or at the very least pulled it away at the last second .... I promise I will try harder sir ... Had a good time Pygmy ... we need to do it again soon.
  7. There's more thread on the spools ... I think you got a few more rewrapps in ya .....
  8. Rod dryer showed up .. maybe next weekend I can work on finishing the rod.
  9. Last I knew Raytheon was contracting the navy platform . Its 500 plus there . South of Valoice there's a spot I marked on my bottom line fish finder that was 636 feet .
  10. I can think of 4 instance of people drowning in a canoe accident on Seneca lake over the years . That lake is no joke when it gets going and it's cold.. very cold . Surface temps are 70 in the shallows at the hottest time of the year . Go a few feet down and its 50 . Once a body goes down it sinks and it's to cold for the gasses to build and float the body back up . I know of 3 people where the body's were not recovered. I think one is attached to a bass boat that was not recovered. Boat sank .. one guy suffered a heart attack his partner tied him to the boat and swam to shore for help. The boat sank and took the body with it . I feel sorry for the family and the survivor.
  11. Hopefully there will be a bikini hatch at some point ..
  12. Love the ausable Wulff. I thought about adding it .. the usual.. bivisable ... Griffiths gnat and yes the green weenie. But there was so much in the list to begin with . A guy could go broke buying all those patterns . Fran Betters was a great innovator in fly tying and a genuine nice guy.
  13. I thought about bringing uprise forms and individual hatch characteristics slow water of one species verses fast water .. crawlers and such . Didn't want to cludder things up . Keeping it simple so as to speak .
  14. My son in law just got a notification in the mail this morning He is getting his severance package from Watkins Glen International. He was a full time maintenance man since he graduated high school. 20 plus years ! Plumbing ,electrical, mechanic . What a way to tell someone they are done ! He has been layed off for a month.
  15. The Muddler minnow is a streamer. It is intended to fish wet .The grass hoppers does work its just a late summer fly. A size 8 or 6 stimulator will work as a good hopper replacement and is taken as a large stonefly. In our area first large stones hatch in June. If you have an area of home waters research a hatch chart . Not all waters have the same bugs . I have fished a stream for 20 plus years that has never produced a sulphur. Yet two streams around it has prolific sulphur hatches. My go to for all waters are . Rusty spinners 10,12,14 Pheasant tailes 14 ,16 Hairs ear 14,16 Adam's, 14 Caddis 14,16,18 Light Cahill wet 14 Dark cahill wet 14 Yellow Stimulator size 8 Black nosed dace streamer Muddler minnow Wooly buggers white, black, brown ,olive. Biggest thing about fishing wet or dry is what the fish want . If the fish are taking on top you will see them . If no rises fish wet . That comment is really over simplified but will serve you well 95 percent of the time .
  16. Good movie ... but I preferred the book.
  17. Looking good .. like to see what you think of the pro coat
  18. Fly fishing is the spot and stalk of fishing ...
  19. Fly fishing isn't a new hobby it's an extension of your fishing hobby. Kind of like refining deer hunting to bow hunting .... dont fight it it's a natural progression... just except it .. it's the light side of the force...
  20. Its not that hard . I learned from a book and a vhs tape . My first rod build cost 25 bucks . I wrapped it on a cardboard box using a coffecup and book for tension. Used a drill for a dryer.
  21. Probably depends on his OCD..... how many times he has to rewrap the guides to make them perfect...
  22. Been paying $1.99 for a month down here in Horseheads.
  23. I'm probably R7 ... I'm a constitutionalists... I believe the constitution defines the law not laws defining the constitution. Do things right ... Work hard earn what you bring home . Take care of yourself and your family. Help your neighbors... shouldnt mean bank roll their family so they can sit home on their ass.No free rides no corporate bail outs . To me it's about god.. guns.. and babies. Let the bashing begin.... lol
