my first bow

Well I finally did it I just got myself a Mathews z7. Was shooting before I left the place and love it already. I do have a few questions for you guys/girls that shoot this same bow or one similar, 1- what is your favorite broad head, 2- what is your feelings or opinions on the lighted nocks

IMO: I use rage and love it, never had an issue with penetration, deflection, or deployment for about 4 years now. As for lighted nocks, I use them for a couple of reasons: it helps me watch the arrow after I shoot for better follow through and tracking, and it helps you to find it after the shot. when you spend $10 for the arrow, $13 for a broadhead, you don't want to loose one. Of course if you put a lighted nock on there and loose it too, then you are out $36 total. I guess the rule there is don't miss. lol. I use tracer nocks that use a magnet.

I've shot Rage broadheads for the last 3 years and had no issues. I got a sweet deal on the Shwacker broadheads earlier this year and I'm going to give them a try this fall. As far as lighted nocks, I shoot the nocturnal. They are a pain to turn off but were the best bang for my buck.

all the to brands of BH are great, I usethe fixed blade by Muzzy. I do not use the lighted nocks, seem a high cost. I do use light color fletch as orange and yellow to help find a arrow on a pass thru of the deer.

Wish I had cash for lighted nocs...and I shoot low poundage so fixed only for me....also I tend to creep forward if my shots aren't perfact.....so a broad head that has a good chance of handling a POSSIBLE shoulder hit is preferable

Welcome to the addiction critter.

Well you didn't say where you got your bow but at the risk of repeating info make sure you get it set up for your draw length and comfortable poundage. Have your arrows cut & set up to the right length & weight for your set-up. Get used to practicing with a few shots when you can, don't wear yourself down. Your arm & back muscles will adjust in time. personaly I wouldn't worry about lighted nocs or what your favorite head might be untill you know your Bow.

Btw if your undecided on a head when it's time to buy them, a good fixed blade is usually reliable. Last year I had the opertunity to use a different head on three different hunts. On each kill got a pass through and good track. Two were coc heads the other a chizel point. Yes I have my favorite but thats me and my bow not yours.

I like Slick Trick broadheads. They fly like field tips and cut through deer like hot butter.

There is a great article on lighted nocks in the June Petersons Bowhunting magazine. Its a good read. I have tried the Lumenocks and the newer Nocturnal nocks. I prefer the Lumenocks because they are more water resistant, you can test them before you nock the on string to see if they are working properly, and they will stay lit for days after being shot.

I shoot a z7 and I use rage broad heads all the way with carbon express maxima arrows. I use the doubletake nocturnal lighted nocks and I love this setup and won't change it.

My broad heads are so old I am not sure of the manufacturer... (would not be much help as I have never shot at a deer with the bow...) I have lighted nocks but do not use them very much. I saved 12 for hunting season/practice that I will use when the season gets close... I have the Helium and shoot 340 and 400 easton, carbon express and beeman. The 400's are a little light for the bow 65 lbs 28 draw. But they still fly true... Luminocks, work ok but I am looking for brighter nocks... Good luck with the new bow!!!

My first bow I bought in 1969. It is a Bear Kodiak magnum recurve. I shoot 150 grain Snuffers...but have killed a lot of deer with a lot of other heads. I have not experimented with lighted nocks. Don't really understand why anyone would spend the money on them. I've killed so many deer with a bow and arrow without them.
