ants
So i went out this morning to shoot the bow. I wanted to see how these Rocky Mtn FX-100 broadheads flew. I bought them and hunted with them last year but didn't shoot a deer with them. I shot one this morning into a block target and the thing fell apart. Two of the three fell out and the chistle tip snapped off. I shot a second one into the block, one blad fell off and the remaining two were so loose i could almost pull them off. Anyone ever had problems with these before?
ants
Actually all three blades fell out and one of them is still in the target somewhere. The arrows both passed through and were sticking out of the back about 4 inches
Deerthug
Uggh! Seen them at Dicks and Gander. They looked too flimsy in the package so I passed on them last year. Ended up buying the Montec G5 fixed and T3 Mechanicals. Ordered the Swhackers this afternoon from Ebay and just got the email telling me they were shipped. Can't wait to test them out! ants
Yeah I got them at Dick's (one sale) but when I opened the pack the seemed to be well made.. Wrong! I remember, back in the day Rockys were good. These things are junk

erussell
Geez def junk. I used them 3 yrs ago and they worked fine. Even shot a doe passed through and was in one pc. Sounds like you got a bad pack. I would take them back to Dicks if you still have the receipt..

Anyone ever had problems with these before? What the heck do you have stuck in that Block target .... lol? I can't think of any broadhead that should fall apart from being shot into a foam target. Sounds like something was not assembled right, or was not tightened down. And for the chistle tip to be snapped off, it would have to hit something a lot harder than foam. erussell
Who knows maybe he got a damaged package or something. Like I said above, I used them about 3 yrs ago and they worked great. Love the low profile broadheads. If not damaged, there quality and control has def gone haywire since I used them. I would be pissed. 132 eight pointer
If that chisel point screws in to the body it may have been a weak point at the root of the thread. Not the kind of quality expected from a reputable manufacturer.
erussell
With all this said, Ive had blades break of muzzys before to and a few other brands when hitting the off side shoulder. But ive never had them fall apart shooting at a target before unless ive missed the target and hit a rock or something.
Doc
I still can't figure out how foam breaks a metalic "chisel" point, unless the point was already cracked and just ready to break as soon as it hit anything.
erussell
Thats why I think they had to be damaged. When I used them they were rather sturdy little broadheads.

I even double checked the second one before I shot it and that one didn't do much better. Nothing is stuck in the target, other than the one blade. I have been shooting on the target since Aug. with no other issues. I have to agree that maybe I got a bad pack. Pisses me right off. A have 4 more left but I don't dare use them. You can see on the blade at the bottom that the little tab , that locks into the retaining ring, snapped off. StripedBuck
Write or call the manufacturer and tell them what's been happening with their product and try to get your money back!...Good luck this season once you find the right broadhead. ants
Yeah thanks.. I got a fresh pack of Rage and a few Thunderheads left over. Probably go with the Rage...they fly awsome.
ants
I have killed 3 deer with 100 gr. Thunderheads, none ran more than 30 yds. all arrows passed through. I took a bunch of deer with Thunderheads. I switched to Rage 2 years ago when I got a new bow but ended up not being all that thrilled with them. Wanted to go back to fixed so I bought these on sale. I'll give Rage another shot, since I have a full pack, but I might just go back to the Thunderheads.
Culvercreek hunt club
Previous Thunderhead shooter here. I did the mechanical run but went back to the fixed. A friend that does a lot of traveling for North American species made a suggestion to me and I am very glad he did. I wanted a cut on contact that was tough and he uses the Montec G5. great quality and amazingly strong. very easy to sharpen on any quality flat stone. If you are going back to fixed blade I would suggest them.
ants
The G5 is the one piece head right? I have heard nothing but good about them.
erussell
I took a bunch of deer with Thunderheads. I switched to Rage 2 years ago when I got a new bow but ended up not being all that thrilled with them. Wanted to go back to fixed so I bought these on sale. I'll give Rage another shot, since I have a full pack, but I might just go back to the Thunderheads. I would go with the muzzy fx-3's in 100 grain before I would go with thunderheads. I think you would be happier with them. The low profile broadheads are the only way to go. Only reason I didnt use them this yr is moneys tight and the wife has me on a short leash for hunting supplies.
WNYBuckHunter
The G5 is the one piece head right? I have heard nothing but good about them. Yes, the Montec is their 1 piece head. G5 does make other broadheads. I had always looked at them, but never went with them till this year. I am glad I did, they are great. I just need to pick up a flat stone and I will be touching up the edges on the head I shot on Monday so I can put it back on the arrow and use it again. Way better than replaceable blades.
