fasteddie
I spent a total of 8 hours between 2 different stands opening day in Geneseo . Saw a buck and a doe at 7:30 . The buck milled around in the lower pasture lot for 15 minutes but never came to the pasture I was in . Left around 4 pm . I had to work Tuesday and needed to get my assignments plus I had to pick my wife up at the airport . Couldn't afford to be late on either plus my back was killing me . I left my ATV and trailer at my sister in law's to save on gas . Hauling it really cuts down my mileage .
fasteddie
Wednesday I was back in a stand in Geneseo by 6:10 am . Sat there until 11 and never saw a thing . I was in a different stand than the one I used Monday . Shed some clothes and walked down to the woods to check things out . Saw where a tree had dropped on my old pressure treated stand . It's the 2nd time that has happened in the past couple years . My canon camera crapped out on me so I took a pic with the phone . Walked back to the car , got something to eat & drink and sacked out for an hour . Spent 3 1/2 hours in another stand and never saw anything . I could see over 600 yards across the bean field and pasture lots . No wind . The leaves weren't moving one bit . Around 3 oclock my SIL called to tell me that there were 2 doe and a turkey in the pasture behind her house . I told her that I was almost 1/4 mile away . So , I wonder if the deer in the area weren't moving due to the heat or the lack of and breeze . There's always another day .
Renegade Hunter
Yea i had the same luck this opening week. We need that cold weather desperately! This cold front is moving in though! good luck this weekend.
fasteddie
Bought a replacement camera today . It's a Canon Powershot SX130 . The same as the one that crapped out on me . It has a good zoom , takes good pics and runs on 2 AA batteries . I don't care for the ones that require special batteries . I always like to take a camera with me when I hunt , etc .. There goes the Social Security money ...........
apoallo
i take a camera with me also. As far as the S.S $ it was put to good use IMO

fasteddie
Drove to Groveland to hut at my niece's house ( it had been my mother's ) . It was a light sprinkle . I was in the stand by 6:30 and took an umbrella with me . It continued to sprinkle for some time . I stayed in the stand until 11 am and never saw any deer . Heard a heck load of shots in the am . Seemed like too many for target practice and wondering if it may have been goose hunters . Went to the house and visited with my niece . Went back to the stand at 1:30 and sat until 5:30 . It was windy off and on and I should have taken some Dramamine with me ( motion sickness ) j/k . As I was heading home I saw 3 deer feeding in a field about 6 miles from where I had been hunting . Stopped off in Lima and picked up the Trail Cam I won in the QDMA drawing last month so the day wasn't a complete waste .
First-light
Motion sickness, my brother said the same thing, it was pretty gusty! Get'em next time Eddie!
fasteddie
I exaggerated about any motion sickness . The wind would occasionally pick up and rock the trees but not all that bad . What was going through my mind was , " with the wind blowing , how much effect would it have on the arrow flight " ? I think I was over thinking ! fasteddie
I went down to a friend's property in Walworth and sat out for 4 hours . Didn't see any deer and no tracks where they had been traveling through earlier in the year . Saw a couple of horse riders . They started to come my way until they saw the posted sign and did a 180 degree turn and headed south . On the drive home I saw at least 3 deer feeding in a field on Swadling Road where I used to shoot woodchucks for a farmer . Posting some pics from the stand and a shot of the bow holder . fasteddie
Drove down to Mendon this am to hunt with my youngest son . Had a doe cross the road in front of me when I made a U-turn to come back and park .I was in the stand by 6:10 am . Snipped some vines and sat back waiting for the sun to come up . Saw a doe and 2 fawns go through a guys back yard 300 yards away at 7:10 . Nothing after that . At 11 , I walked up to my car with my son . He was going home to eat and then going to a spot on Rt 251 in Mendon . I had taken my pole saw along and cleared some of the vines that obstructed the view from the stand . I had something to eat and drink and went back to the stand . Nothing was happening until 4 pm when 2 doe and a fawn ran across the far end of the field . Because of the surroundings I decided to leave the stand at 5:30 . I didn't want to hit a deer and have to track it in that place in the dark . Before I got down I took a couple of test shots to check out the bow . The stand has a wooden rail so the bow needs to be beyond the rail when shot or it might hit when shooting . I'm glad I checked it out before getting down . I was removing my hunting clothes at the car and the woman across the road waved . When she came down to get her mail I walked over and we talked for a few minutes . She has no qualms with hunters and said that since they started building a development North of her property they have been seeing less deer in the area . I left when it was still light out and went across VanVorhis Road where I always see deer . It never fails . They was a deer feeding in someone's yard near East Street . All in all , it was a good day . I saw 8 deer ............ A few views from the stand

Nomad
Nice Pics. ! I need to bring my pole saw with me.... always something I missed when I trimmed lanes .
fasteddie
Yesterday's hunt sucked ! I was out for about 10 hours and the only thing I saw was a red fox . On the way down Furnace Rd around 5 am in Ontario I saw a beautiful buck crossing the road near the Town Barns . He looked to be a possible 8 point ( not sure ) . I was in a stand in Geneseo by 6:20 and it was cold . I believe it was 27 degrees . I stayed there until 11:30 and then got something to eat and drink . Took a short snooze and walked a ways and checked my cameras . Around 2 pm I got back in the same stand as I had been getting pics of some decent deer on them . Had some light sprinkles that I thought might bring the deer out but no such luck . The camera in the pond field had pics of a buck but he was only showing up there at night . The lane camera had no pics and the one by the stand had a bunch but the latest deer pics were taken on October 8 . Nothing in 5 days . Gotta try somewhere else . Here are some pics from a camera I have about 3 yards from the stand I was using .
132 eight pointer
Nice pictures Eddie. I sat from light until about 10:50 a.m. yesterday morning. Saw 2 herons,3 hawks, 5 black capped chicadees flying around my head and Zero deer. I still enjoyed every minute on stand.Just think in the past we wouldn't have been hunting here yet ! fasteddie
Havn't hunted since Saturday but I went down to a friend's property this am to put ratchet straps on 2 stands . I had cut them loose last winter so the trees wouldn't be girded . Not much deer sign but a few tracks . I have a ladder stand and a chain-on at the property . My ladder to the chain-on needs repair . I have never had a shot at any deer on that property . They seem to travel intermittant through there ........ fasteddie
Drove to Mendon this am and met up with my youngest son at a spot on West Bloomfield road . He had to go back home and get his quiver . His arrows are over 800grain and mine are only 430 so we didn't think it would be feasable for him to use mine . He only had about 5 miles to his house . Anyway I was in the stand by 6:30 . Saw a buck at 9 am about 200 yards out . That was it for the morning . Took a couple practice 25 yards shots before climbing down . Still on ! Stopped off , got a coffee and something to eat then went to my son's house in Honeoye Falls and took an hour nap . My oldest and youngest sons and I went to a spot on Route 251 where we have 5 stands set up in a triangle woods . The soybeans had been harvested . Tall grass overgrown field on the East and a corn field behind us . Deer have been there all summer . None of us saw anything . Except for BS'ing , it was a boring afternoon. Saturday I plan to try Groveland again .
fasteddie
I am starting to get bored . Drove to Groveland and was in a stand by 6:45 . Sat there until 10:30 and saw nothing . Walked through the woods , along a corn field , through some thjck stuff and back to the stand . Walked up to my niece's house at 12:30 to meet up with my 4 sisters . We went through some of my Mom & Dad's stuff to get rid of it . I went back out to the stand and sat from 4:30 o 6:30 and didn't see a thing all day long . I usually see deer on the way home but nothing today .......... It rained a couple times but not hard . When the wind picked up , it looked like it was raining leaves .
