joe12
Yesterday on the radio I heard someone say that NY's magazine restriction of 7 rounds was carefully crafted as a back door ban on all new semi-auto handguns. The person's argument was that gun manufacturers like Glock would not produce separate NY compliant models of their popular handguns that contain 7 round magazines. They said that the demand would be limited to only NY, and that the cost associated with re-tooling their plants would not be worth the limited revenues. Therefore, you would not be able to purchase new semi-autos because they would not contain the required 7 round magazine. What do you guys think? Even if the original manufacturers find it cost prohibitive to produce versions of their popular models with 7 round magazines for NY, I would think that there would be enough of a demand that an after-market parts company would begin to produce them. THe question then would be if the original manufacturers would then sell their weapons without magazines, so that you could purchase the legal 7 round magazine separately to comply with the NY law. Five Seasons
not every manufacturer will, but some will. You'd be dumb not to spend a little R&D just to redesign a mag. Supply and demand. I know i sure hope something happens as I go to claim my permit in February. As far as I understand it you can still buy the gun, just not the mag. So drive to another state and load up. regardless all revolvers are still legal.
ants
IMHO this pack of rats intentionally structured the bill to reduce the number of guns available to law abiding citizens, and slowly (by attrition) eliminate legal guns that are already out there. Some manufacturers will not spend the money to redesign their guns or mags to accept 7 rounds. You can no longer buy, what they define as, an assault rifle and the ones that are currently owned (by honest citizens) must eventually be sold out of state or surrendered to the state. Internet ammo sales are banned which means that people who legally own firearms chambered in hard to find calibers can no longer get ammo for them..6.5 Swiss, 7.7 Jap, 250/3000 savage, 32-20 etc... even 16ga. and 28ga shells are hard to find. The fact that these little rats are not ashamed of themselves tells you exactly the type of "people" we are dealing with.

greensider
they might only need to put a spacer to make them ny compliant
fasteddie
they might only need to put a spacer to make them ny compliant That would be the most logical thing to do rather than redesign a 7 round mag .
Guns&ReligionCop
How many ruger 10-22's having you seen with a mag of less than 10 rounds? How many semi-auto handguns that aren't saturday night specials hold 7 or less? not many. This assault weapons ban is written in away to ban most legal hunting sporting implements. Your 3 round bolt action deer rifle witha flash hider and detachable mag is considered an assault rifle, your turkey shotgun with the telescoping stocjk and pistol grip is an assault rifle, your 10-22 squirrel gun now is also an assualt rifle not to mention you old 1911 with a 8 round mag that you carry with you in the woods just in case!!! jjb4900
the fact that they forgot to write in the exemption for law enforcement show's you how hastily this was thrown together.
HectorBuckBuster
They don't have to make a new clip , all the have to do it pin to so it won't hold over 7 rounds.
covert
They need to be "Permanently modified" so as long as you can't remove the spacer they'll be legal, for now. I was at my favorite local dealer today and he had already lined up someplace that was going to modify mags for him to make them NY compliant. Ruger already makes 5 round 10/22 mags. It's not impossible to get the obsolete ammo. It just has to be shipped to the dealer and not to you. Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely, totally, 100% against this whole steaming pile of garbage law, but for the immediate future is mainly a huge nuisance. Just make sure you stock up on your components now before they come after them too. For now I'm doing whatever I need to in order to stay out of trouble long enough to plan my escape from NY and head West. jjb4900
But yet they didn't attempt to ban readily available replica "toy" guns, which I guarantee are responsible for just as many if not more gun related crimes than real guns........obviously not killings, but gun related crimes none the less.........those orange tips are pretty easily scraped off and when pointed in someone's face get the same result.
