Culvercreek hunt club
i like a 50 black powder pistol 12 in barrel, does well out to 100 yrds with opensights, killed a few deer with it and a wild boar. you have to watch for older tc encore and contender barrels they are not the legal 15 in but 15 and 1/4 they are sold as 15 in barrels. nobody ever turned them down to 15 in. you can get pinched for barrels to long especially if eco has had a bad day. Under 16" is the legal standard I believe. but only if mounted in a rifle configuration. In a pistol configuration I do not believe there is a maximum Edited February 21, 2013 by Culvercreek hunt club
NYBuckHunter27
Are you guys usually using hand-loads or factory? I've read alot of reviews that factory loads seem be too much for the short pistol barrels causing alot of gases releaseing upon firing. Culvercreek hunt club
I have shot both. I don't have any porting so i don't notice any excessive blow back through the porting between the two. I can imagine that with a 15" barrel or shorter there may be "unused" gas for propelling the bullet since they are designed for a longer barrel but that isn't a big deal. I would be more concerned with matching tthe bullet weight to the twist of the barrel and if you grouping is good....call it a win.

HighlandLofts
Anyone know of any contenders for sale? A guy out here in Washington State has a nice 30-30 Encore with a scope & bandileer for $650. I have a contender with a ten inch 22LR and a fourteen inch 45LC/410, I will be buying several other barrels when I get the extra cash. ants
Im not a pistol hunter but my buddy used a T/C in 35 rem. for a while. I watched him smack a big doe at well over 100yds with it. It worked REAL GOOD. He also has a 357max. and .223 barrel for it, but always used the 35 for deer. He hasn't hunted with it in a few years. I fired it a few times and couldn't hit Schmitt with it !
