jimbo91
After hunting this weekend, my saw my deer and wanted to get involved, so i gave her my cousins bow and said pull this back, it was set at 35 pounds, and she struggled. I didn't want to be mean, but what do i tell her if she wants to hunt but cant really pull back a 35# bow?
bushnell
Tell her that maybe she should start off hunting with a shotgun or rifle first and after she able to pull back the bow and shoot well with it she will be able to start archery hunting with you. Mr VJP
Tell her to use a crossbow! ;D Seriously, take her to an archery shop and let the sales rep know what she wants to do. They'll have something she can pull back for sure.
jimbo91
Isn't there a law that it has to be set past a certain weight?
Geno C
condition her to start learning to pull that bow back. she will be able to pull it back and possibly more. encourage her to start shooting the bow and set a goal for next season... perhaps bring her into the woods a few times for hunts and see if it something that really would interest her. she would have to see other sides of the spectrum when it comes to hunting not just the shooting part. goodluck with it all! Doewhacker
Isn't there a law that it has to be set past a certain weight? Yes it has to be over 35 pounds in order to hunt with it. Get one with a wide range of adjustment and she will build muscle and be able to draw more after a year of practice.
Culvercreek hunt club
She will be able to pull it back with practice. most folks don't use the muscles we do when we draw. there is a much bigger question though......are YOU sure you want her hunting...lol

Culvercreek hunt club
LOL...first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the post. crank that bow up to about 70 pounds...tell her it is 20 ...."Sorry honey...you just don't have the strength"
WNYBuckHunter
Have her start spending some time with the weights. Some good strength training for her shoulders and back and she should be able to draw in no time. She should get to the point where she can draw at least 40 to 45 lbs without a problem before she starts hunting. Just my opinion.
steve863
LOL...first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the post. crank that bow up to about 70 pounds...tell her it is 20 ...."Sorry honey...you just don't have the strength" Unless she is this girl. This one can probably pull 100 lbs with one arm while she uses you to do curls with the other!
Culvercreek hunt club
LOL...no HGH use there huh?
steve863
No kidding! Do some girls really think a body like that will be attractive to guys? The only thing I find attractive is that she would be good to have around when it's time to drag one out! LOL She can drag it to the road, while I warm up the truck! Culvercreek hunt club
The heck with that....drag it out and carry you on the other shoulder...why walk?
Doewhacker
You wouldn't need a car jack with her around, she could just pick it up like a feather.
Geno C
LOL...no HGH use there huh? HGH and insulin... that girl is crazy, so not attractive... you can put the deer in the truck and save on gas while she carries the truck home.
Culvercreek hunt club
Too bad...looks like a cute girl too. That has to be just like an eating disorder...there is just something off about that
steve863
Just don't get her pissed at you or you'll be in BIG trouble! Going up into your treestand to hide won't help you either. She'll just come over and shake the tree until you fall out of it! LOL
Culvercreek hunt club
I am betting I can run faster scared than she can mad

Jennifer
LOL...first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the post. crank that bow up to about 70 pounds...tell her it is 20 ...."Sorry honey...you just don't have the strength" Haha, I know you guys are just joking, but I think it's great that she expressed interest! Even if she can't draw it at 35, with practice she might. Or, get her started with a rifle/shotgun first. I have some health issues and am not terribly strong for a girl so I may not ever be able to bowhunt but I have a great time with my shotgun every year. We need to encourage interested 'newbie' hunters as long as they are doing it for the right reasons.
SteveB
What was the draw length of the bow she tried? If it was too long, it could make it harder for it. Have her try a bow that fits.
fasteddie
Like someone mentioned earlier , take her to a bow shop where they have a tech that has been around for a while . He may have some advice on a bow that would be easier to draw back . Don't give up .It's really great that she is interested . Don't let her lose that ! Culvercreek hunt club
was kidding earlier in my posts. I think it is great! ditto what Eddie said---they can get her into something
20ftupatree
My girlfriend wanted to start shooting bow. I had a Bear Whitetail Hunter last season, For me it set to it's max which I believe was 65 lbs. That bow is as easy as s#%t to adjust so I simply backed it down to the lowest setting and let her go at it. For some reason I don't think the poundage on the old whitetail hunter is very accurate because the 65 lbs on that one seemed a lot easier than the 65 lbs on my new one, maybe it's just the design, but needless to say it was a good start for her and she lost interest VERY quickly. The first 4:30 A.M wake up she realized she wasn't a fan of hunting!
