What is this?

I wish the picture caught if it was a buck or doe that passed by, but what could that hole be on the deer? Could it really be just an awful shot that healed?

Not sure about the hole,But the tarsal gland is rather small and clean. A rutting buck will have a dark stained tarsal in Nov. I would say a doe.

I think it might be one of those wart like growths......don't remember the scientific name.

Maybe a hole from an antler when a buck was nudging her to get up to have a little

My guess is that is a yearling buck. The tarsals are stained, just not as much as a mature buck's. The deer looks awfully tall and gaunt to be a doe. The mark could be anything but I doubt the deer would be walking that freely if that was a bullet wound. It could be a fibroma or just a missing patch of hair.

Yeah, it looks like an antler wound from rut activity. But it could be some of the other explanations also.

Fibroma or antler wound. The big boys will occasionally gore the younger ones that dont get out of their way fast enough for their liking.

it's a wound/scar from something. but doesn't look too fresh and i wouldn't be worried about it.
