Culvercreek hunt club
You made that bold statement, not me. Again, you would have to make it worth my while to drive to you. Or I would be happy to show you if you want to drive to long island. I wont even charge you for that. You would just have to post on this thread the results We are talking about two individual guns now. That isn't where this started. I would think a better evaluation would be to go to a range and just watch those shooting rifles and those shooting shotguns, scoped and at 100 yards. See just how close is close enough for the ones leaving the bench.
pistolp71
Culvercreek, I have been shooting a long time. I have seen it all. Now you are talking about the shooters skills. Take 5 bolt action rifles in a machine rest(eliminating the shooter error) and 5 shotguns the same way. The results would be clear.
pistolp71
And, I only replied because he said ANY rifle against his shotgun.

I'd do it but we have no public ranges around this area. We shoot at a range we have setup on a guys farm. pistolp: I have no need to keep my targets so I have none, next time I go I'll let you know but it'll be a while. My target will look just like yours. Well, with the exception of it being a Shoot-n-see.

pistolp71
SteveC gun is a pump. But, yes even bolt shotguns. I don't think I'm going to change your mind no matter how many replies I send. Your entitled to your opinion and ill just leave it at that.
Culvercreek hunt club
I just found it funny that you injected 5 BOLT rifles and a generic shotgun.
pistolp71
And I find it funny that you think shotguns in general (because there are always exceptions) are as accurate or more to rifles. See, we make each other laugh, that's good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Doewhacker
Guys I have a question, if two guns both hit the bullseye aren't they both acurate?

steve863
Any scoped rifle that shoots 3 moa, should be melted for scrap. Send them to me. I have NO doubt that I will put deer down with these rifles that you think should be melted into scrap. I have seen plenty of shooters at the range who get all excited over their 1/2 inch groups from the bench, yet can't shoot worth a $#!+ when a deer is staring them in the face! Lawdwaz
Anybody can talk. This target is one of many and is 5 shots.target.JPG So, how much are we talking? Details please; gun, bullet, load, scope, distance (100yds I presume) etc.

I would never own one to begin with, so can't send it to you. I've never owned one even close to that bad and I have, and have had, a bunch. And yes, there are plenty of shooters with a accurate gun in their hand that cant hit a deer. But that's not what we are talking about. Talking about a particular weapons INHERENT accuracy

But that's not what we are talking about. Talking about a particular weapons INHERENT accuracy My point is that one hole accuracy is very over-rated and will not make someone a great hunter. A good hunter with a 3 moa clunker rifle will bring down a hell of a lot more game than the guy with the one hole gun who couldn't find a deer in the woods if his life depended on it. If we are talking about deer at 100 yards or less. I do a lot of long range( out to 1000 yrds) varmint shooting. If your gun isn't shooting 1/4 moa or so, you aren't going to hit s---t at 1000. I don't care how good a shot you are. Even big game hunting out west where you are shooting at 3-4 hundred yards or more, a 3 moa gun isn't going to cut it. I have a bunch, but that particular rifle is Savage precision target action, timed and trued, custom stock, Krieger barrel, 6BR, 80 gr Berger seated 10 though in the lands, 32.8 grs of Varget, CCI 450 primer. Scope is a Leupold LRT 8.5-25 x50.

So now we are going from a discussion of deer hunting in NYS where the vast majority of deer that get shot are within 100 yards to varmint shooting to 1000 yards?? Yeah, then MOST rifles surely won't cut it. And even if the rifle cuts it, the shooter probably won't.
