Assault Weapon Ban NO WE WILL NOT COMPLY

Recommended Posts

They can create all the Illegal laws they want, it has been proven that gun owners would rather become felons with guns than to be victims of a corrupt Government that want to take away our rights.  Facts do not lie and we will not comply!

What is Cuomo going to do?  NOTHING!!!  He should stick to banning soda to save us.  So effective!  True savior of NY, LMAO.  Funny how abstract they get when power is at hand, like thinking you have a ticket to heaven on the fast track because you banned soda or guns.  That is a good one!

Funny how he has guns to protect him at all times yet he feels it is OK to take away your guns.  Double standard?  You better believe it!

All fun and games, until they slap the bracelets on you.  I don't own an AR, but I damn sure would have registered it if I did.

Life/Job/Livelihood destroyed -vs- doing something all residents of NYC have to do with any long-arm anyway...not really much of a dilemma.

Side point, showing us how uninformed you are ("He should stick to banning soda...") does not help your cause.  That was Bloomberg, not Cuomo.

And this should be in Politics, not General. :)

EDIT: For the record, I do not agree with the SAFE Act, but it is the current law whether you like it or not.  The consequences are severe and will change your life if you are prosecuted for breaking it.

Safe act or not, you would have to register any long gun based on the location you are showing - Staten Island is in NYC.

Registration is certainly one legal path to take. Many have chosen to instead make simple modifications which allow the rife to remain legally unregistered in part of NY outside NYC.

I agree the consequences are severe (unnecessarily so). However there are legal options aside from registration. Many feel that registration equals "surrender" and allows an unconstitutional law to win. Some of us cannot afford the consequences associated with open defiance of the law - however, modification (and other actions) allow those to keep their property, transfer it to others and thumb their nose at Cuomo with fear of prosecution.

I am not the one doing this, it is done by the people who do not register, look at the facts in the article.   More than 90% did not comply.

If they banned your hunting guns would you comply?

I'm all for swapping out that deadly assault pistol grip for a less lethal grip and thereby making your AR platform legal though.

Yes.  If the guns were illegal, then hunting with them would be illegal, which would make owning them useless, wouldn't it?

Or I could risk a felony, jail time, and losing my job to keep some rifles I could never be seen with buried in my basement.

It is not just upstate that disagrees with this stupidity.  The article states how even the police will not enforce this law.

While jt is great that many law enforcement agencies are against the law, remember that they still CAN enforce the law at any time. Don't rely on any of these statements in articles to believe you are safe from prosecution. If you have an unregistered gun which meets the state's new definition of "assault weapon" you are in violation. The state can. at any time, decide to enforce that law upon you and you will lose.

From everything I have read, actually registration numbers are very low. (The state has decided to keep the numbers a secret, probably to avoid embarrassment). I am sure many have not registered and decided to ignore the law. I salute those people but also understand why others cannot risk this avenue of protest. Others have modified their guns to stay legal and avoid registration - this is another valid option.

I know...Didn't I say that?

Yes you did. My point was that you have to register either way. The rest of us have options. We can modify and and avoid registration while those in NYC cannot. So for you, I guess you could say "no dilemma." For those in the rest of the state, there is a dilemma.

Prior to safe, could you own/register an AR in NYC? Or were they already restricted?

I love how all these people say I would comply. Sorry what gives the state the right to force me to either sell, or dispose of legally owned property of mine. Anyone that says the Safe Act does not effect them, better hold on it will, and when it does it will be too late.

Also one other thing there is NO SUCH TERM AS ASSAULT WEAPON. That is a made up term by the gun grabbers. AR stands for Armalite Rifle. Also I find it funny how when the government orders what they call ASSAULT RIFLES, they call them PERSON DEFENSE WEAPONS.

AR-15's have been restricted in NYC for a very long time. The safe act really didn't change much for us down here. Although it shows which direction the state is headed with more and more legislation passed. Hopefully voters turn out this November and get Cuomo out of his throne with officials who realize this law has to go.

my guess is that since its been accepted as law for so long in one part of NY that it won't be hard for them to win the fight that it's ok for the rest of the state......where was everyone when it was being pushed as law onto NYC?

Prior to the SAFE Act, yes, you could own a registered AR within the city.  Though, legally, your magazine could only hold 5 rounds (as opposed to 10 in the rest of the state).

Show me the old law that did not allow you to own an AR within the city as long as you only had 5 round magazines.  I believe you are incorrect here.

Anything you owned prior to the SAFE Act was grandfathered in (minus the high capacity magazines).  You did not have to sell or dispose of them (again, sans magazines with 11+ round capacity).  The SAFE Act just makes you register them.

That's a "glass is half empty" view! :)

How about because it is NOT accepted or part of the law in virtually the entire rest of the country, the gun-grabbers are out of touch and should LOSE their fight?

The problem is that NYC carries a tremendous amount of political influence inside of NY State. That is one reason restrictive gun laws get written and passed. Fortunately, that influence doesn't extend to most areas outside of NY state.

Yes, the fight is everywhere. It is just that it is currently much harder for us to "win" that fight in NY.

True to a point. You cannot transfer a safe registered gun to anyone else inside of NY State.

Also, when you die, no one inside NY state can legally inherit the gun. Your heirs are forced to dispose of them. If they can't sell them out of state, they must turn them in to be destroyed (without compensation).

Effectively we are one generation away from everything that the safe act defines as an "assault weapon"  being banned and illegal in NY State - registered or not. Once you register, that particular gun is tied to you forever. When you die or move out of NY, that rifle is no longer allowed in NYS.

I understand your point, but the reality is more than just "registration." It is, at best, delayed confiscation.

you're right..the fact that it hasn't been law in the majority of the state should win out...........time for the NYC gun owners to step up big time!!!!

I think everyone realizes that if you get caught with one of these guns you will be prosecuted.  Law enforcement is not going to start making a list of people with these guns and then go and check every single one of them to see if they are within the law.

My point is this Law will do nothing to stop a crazy from going on a killing spree.  But it will make ordinary people into felons if they do not comply and get caught.  Great fix to help stop another shooting spree, I think not.  Stupid politics to say look what I did, I banned all these guns.  Yet now according to that article we have over 1,000,000 guns on the so called banned list in NY.  This Safe Act did nothing to protect the people.  In fact I would say it caused the people of NY to become apprehensive and made them purchase these guns because big brother was going to take them away.  Then ammo was in question, and we all know that some of these people could probably arm a small army with their stock piles.  SAFE?

Ever wonder why they will not allow some information on guns to go public?  Because it would show that before the safe act we had less than half the "assault rifles" we now have in NY.   Safe?

OK I am done with my rant for the day.   Time to watch the politicians vote themselves another pay increase with better health coverage.

Time for EVERYONE in NY State to step up.

First step is to unseat Cuomo (and any assembly/senate who allowed safe to pass). Nothing will send a stronger message to those in Albany than being voted out. That message will absolutely make those in office think twice.

On the other hand, a solid win for Cuomo and these others in November will be promoted as a "mandate" for the safe act. You can bet your last dollar that they already have the next round or restrictions lined up and ready to go.

Cuomo is laying low right now because he knows it is a voter hot button without as much popular support as he anticipated. After November, the ammo database/BGC will be pushed ahead, enforcement of other provisions will be increased.

Sooner or later we will be hunting in a "virtual" field, with computer generated game. Unless the state maybe allows us the ability to own and throw small rocks. Don't think you are safe because you don't own an "evil assault weapon." The end game is to remove access to all guns (at least for regular folks. Politicians, celebrities  and their security details still get plenty of firepower).

We have the means to change things and the voting booth is the place.

Or, as you have pointed out more than once, they can buy a slightly angled grip/stock, and thereby eliminating all the dangerous potential of the gun and reducing it from an "assault weapon" to just a "plain ole weapon".

Yes, that is laced with sarcasm to point out how idiotic the SAFE Act is.

I dont know what to say. Read the highlights, this bill is so extreme I dont know how ANYBODY can think this is ok. This isn't a religious issue, per se as it is more of an issue of right and wrong
      https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/01/24/8-shocking-facts-about-new-yorks-radical-abortion-law/
      From the article:
Here are eight facts about New York’s new abortion law:
      – The “fundamental” right to abortion is enshrined in the New York Constitution. “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion, pursuant to this article,” the law states.
      – The law allows non-physicians to perform abortions. “A health care practitioner licensed, certified, or authorized under title eight of the education law, acting in his or her lawful scope of practice, may perform an abortion,” the law states.
      – The law allows abortion through the third trimester, including up to birth. “Third-trimester abortion will be allowed under the new law when a preborn child is diagnosed with a condition that will cause him or her to die at or shortly after birth,” Live Action reported.
      – The law removes protections for babies who survive an abortion procedure. “The new law removes protections for babies born alive after an abortion — meaning they could be left to die after birth — by rescinding a portion of New York’s public health law,” Live Action reported. Late-term abortions, until now, were illegal in the state of New York.
      – The law prevents pregnant women whose babies are killed in an attack on the mother from seeking justice and could result in infanticide by repealing the requirement for a second physician to be on hand in case an attempted abortion past 20 weeks yields a live infant.
      – The law states that an unborn child cannot be a victim of homicide if he dies while in the womb following an attack on the mother. “‘Person,’ when referring to the victim of a homicide, means a human being who has been born and is alive,” the law states.
      – Pro-abortion advocates said the law would protect legal abortion even in the event that the U.S. Supreme Court overturns the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision to make abortion legal — a decision that did no go as far as the New York law. “[The law] not only increases access to abortion across the board, including late-term abortions but also goes beyond Roe, which left some limits in place,” Catholic News Service reported.
      – The law is to “prevent the enforcement of laws or regulations that are not in furtherance of a legitimate state interest in protecting a woman’s health that burden abortion access.”

Now Catholics are calling for Andy to be excommunicated. Bishop of Albany very upset, as he should be.

So here's my story. This is my second season hunting. I hunt on about 75-100 acres of private land with 3 other hunters. The owner of the land is retired and keeps daily notes on hunting times, amount of deer, turkey, etc seen (and has been for like 20 years). 2 years ago, by the end of early bow season had counted some 400 deer. Last year was thought to be the worst season he has ever seen with only seeing about 200 deer and about 300 turkey before gun season. But this year it is even worse. Zero turkey and only 48 deer have been seen. Last year there was mostly nocturnal movement. This year we arent even seeing any signs inculding tracks and nothing on our trailcams. They arent using trails they have been using for 20+ years. We thought maybe a lot of coyotes have moved in but we havent even seen/heard them either.
As far as landscape and terrain. Nothing has changed. To make them alter their patterns from previous years.
      SO, my questions are:
      1. Where are all the deer?!
      2. Any ideas whats going on?
      3. Are other hunters having the same problem?
